I'm not due until January, so I've still got a long haul. I've been extremely sick so far in this pregnancy, vomiting almost every day and extremely exhausted. I was telling my husband yesterday that it becomes really depressing because there is nobody to help me during the day when I need it most and then the people that claim to love you (Witnesses, even my Witness relatives) treat you like crap. My mom, the hardcore-borderline-fanatically devout JW, treats us the worst. She and I have always had a volatile relationship, but especially now. She has told me that if we don't become active again then our child(ren) will be destroyed. Now you know I attacked her like a piranha for that one. You can talk about me all you want but as soon as you cross that line and bring my babies into it, shit will fly. But anyway, we're still trying to make real, normal friends...and by that I mean non-Witnesses and what I have seen so far is that they treat you MUCH better than Witnesses do because there is no agenda.

What the hell was I thinking?! Stupid me!!
by freshstart inso my husband and i have a son who will be 2 years old next month and i really wanted him to be socialized more.
ever since we stopped going to meetings, we have been pretty much shunned even though there has never been an "official" reason for it (df, da..).
i am terribly introverted, so it's difficult for me to get out there and talk to people but our son is a people-person and i wanted him to have more peers to be around.

I really appreciate the suggestions everyone. And yes, my husband and I really don't want our kids being raised in the same shit as we were. We were picked on mercilessly in school and I can't fathom having that happen to our children for the sake of some wacky religion. Oh god, I seriously thank you guys and Mouthy, you are especially correct in that we probably dodged a bullet. My husband and I are still in the process of deprogramming ourselves, and I never imagined it would be so difficult. Even though we know so much of the treachery and deceit that makes up with JW religion, it's all we ever knew so all that brainwashing runs deep through us. We're definitely working on it though. I'll keep coming here for encouragement.

Thanks cofty. I just hate wasted time and energy. He'll be 2 next month. I was thinking about taking him to this parent-toddler gymnastics club they have locally, but I'm pregnant so there wouldn't be much that I could handle physically so I don't know about that one. Guess I'll have to keep thinking about what to do.

So my husband and I have a son who will be 2 years old next month and I really wanted him to be socialized more. Ever since we stopped going to meetings, we have been pretty much shunned even though there has never been an "official" reason for it (DF, DA..). I am terribly introverted, so it's difficult for me to get out there and talk to people but our son is a people-person and I wanted him to have more peers to be around. So in my twisted reasoning I thought "let me just take him to the Hall and get him around the kids there." Need I say more? I went for like 3 Sundays in a row and the whole thing has gotten me so bitter again, I just can't fully describe it. Stupid me for thinking that I could give him a social outlet there. Already the kids in the local hall have learned to avoid me because their parents do the same damn thing, which means that my son also has to pay the price for their cultish attitude toward me. My son is the sweetest kid you could know and he's being treated like shit. And the nonsense being spewed during the Watchtower study...ugh! I really wanted to slap the hell out of myself! Needless to say, I got the hell outta there and told my husband what was going on and he just shook his head in disappointment. I'm happy that he stood his ground and refused to go with me, because he would have probably been hounded by the elders if he had gone. So anyway, shame on me for ever thinking that there was a glimmer of hope with the Witnesses to treat my son with the dignity and respect that he deserves. I could kick myself for wasting three Sundays, but what's done is done so now I just have to find some kids for him to be around. I have a good mind to take him to one of these church festivals they have here most weekends, but I don't know....Do I really want to even get into that? Another religious atmosphere? Any suggestions or thoughts? And in case I haven't made my point...I WISH I COULD SLAP MYSELF FOR BEING SO STUPID!

Please can we all have a go at describing and celebrating our different NEW IDENTITIES, versus our OLD WBTS IDENTITY?
by Fernando inat one time most of us here identified as jws who follow the wbts gb/fds who claim to follow the bible etc.
some of us are journeying to a new identity, others may feel they already have a new identity.. although we likely have gone in many different directions, we share a common past which only ex-members can really understand and explain.
please could we each respectfully share and celebrate our unique perspectives of where we have come from, and where we each are now at on this journey?.

Why the hell do I feel like this suddenly?!?!
by freshstart intoday i saw a friend that is still a hardcore jw.
she knows we're not going to meetings, but seemed pretty cool with it and was willing to have lunch with me, so i thought why not?
she mentioned something about the convention coming up in a couple of weeks, and all of the sudden i got so nostalgic and felt like maybe i wanted to go.

I_drank_the_wine: Kinda harsh man. I was having a moment of emotional weakness and you're coming down on me like I'm running right back to the cult. All I said was that I was battling with some nostalgia, but if read my subsequent post, you will clearly see that I've reminded myself of the reasons we left. Check out some of my first threads as well to familiarize yourself with my situation. You might want to consider easing up on the pedal.

Cofty, that's beautiful. I guess I do in some ways desire the familiarity of people that I grew up with. There were a few that I was really close with and I want to see them, but at the same time I know it won't be exactly the same because they know we're inactive and they look at us with a degree of pity that really annoys my husband and I. It's a tough situation really, this emotional tug-of-war. As for doctrine, yeah I know it's a load of crap, but my weakness is my sentimentality.

AGuest, you're right about those feelings. I've had to remind myself all afternoon of the shit that happened to drive us out in the first place.
