Great job, NJ. Well articulated and spoken. Outstanding! I wish I authored such a moving literary work.

Zeb, I had experienced the same attitude for years. Assemblies were the worst. My ex was very lazy. It was easier for her to tear others down to feel better about herself and her service. As an example....At the assembly, she would hear an experience from the platform of a JW woman. She was a single mother raising a handful of kids, working full time, hemodialysis 3 times a week, and a regular pioneer to boot! Brothers and sisters, can you do more! What a fine example for us to follow! My ex had every day of her life free and did nothing. Did I mention lazy? Well, to feel better about herself, she would spend the ride home ripping on me about not doing enough, not spiritual enough, not reaching out for privileges, irregular field service and study, calling me a loser, wishing that she married a more spiritual man. One time, she even started striking me in front of the kids while I was driving the car. She was yelling that if I don't straighten up and taking the "troof" seriously that we all will die at armageddon. Nice childhood memory for the kids. Every assembly would have something that would set her off and push her over the edge. Finally, I wised up. She was bat-s**t crazy and I kicked her to the curb. I hope she gets her abusive JW elder husband one day. Be careful what you ask for, you might get it.

Has the Australian Royal Commision been shown the 2016 convention videos?
by stuckinarut2 inwonder if the arc have seen the series of videos being shown at the 2016 convention?.
part of their questioning was about the societies treatment of those who want to leave without prejudice or shunning from family.
for example, the way the parents kicked out the daughter, and refused to answer a phone call from her.... also they used the expression "a captive organisation",which jackson denied.. what about the paranoia and fear tactics used in the "bunker / basement" series?

I am far from a "legal eagle." However, I wonder if this can have a bearing on anything in Australia. If the convention isn't held and the video isn't shown in the Australian jurisdiction, how can the commission say that it damages the country's culture and breaks the law. I heard that the assemblies in Australia have been cancelled. Is this true?

what sort of reactions have you gotten when talking to other jw when telling them the "truth about the truth"?
by AmIright inits funny ive read some stories on here about how they have become so infuriated by what logic dictates as being true and their own denying of it because it completely screws up their belief and shows how hypocritical it is xd some look like a nuclear reactor about to blow xd.
share you experiences here :) .

My mother just had excuses for everything....the money grab, selling off Brooklyn, overlapping generations, obeying directions that don't seem correct from a human standpoint, dismissing bethel workers, tony morris' pontification of tight pants, cutting back on printing, trolley work, ect.....Her head is so buried in the sand that she will never see the handwriting on the wall.

Old Letter to the Governing Body
by WITNESS-FOR-WATCHTOWER-REFORM inthis is an older letter i wrote to the gb in october last year in regards to their policy around shunning of dissociated ones.
the letter doesn't focus on the disfellowshiped, but am in the process right now of writing to them regarding their recent watchtower on shunning disfellowshipped relatives.. the letter i wrote back in october rambles on a bit, but wanted to express my frustration to the governing body about their very unfair policy toward those who simply choose to leave.. regards.
the governing body.

You made some incredibly valid points and provided sound reasoning to your arguments. However, you are asking the GB to un-ring the bell. I know of members that have been shunning friends and family for decades. They have done this through great pain and suffering...lifting the sanctions at this point would leave a bad taste in many people's mouths on both sides of the shunning. The blow back would be much greater than the past acceptance of organ transplants where individuals actually died due to the early prohibition. No records were ever kept on those that refused a transplant and died, but DA and DF records are quite abundant in every hall. Likewise, the blood issue will never be changed. Many lives were lost due to this prohibition as well. Saying that blood transfusions are okay would cause severe issues and a large exodus from the org from the survivors of those that died. Unfortunately, your letter will never come across a single eyeball in the GB. Some bethel mail clerk will read the first paragraph and file it in the round open top file cabinet on the floor. Sorry. :(

It really doesn't matter what was ever printed in 1947, nearly 70 years ago....chalk it up to the fact that new light was revealed and excommunication and shunning are Jehovah's way.....like blood fractions and organ transplants are okay now as well...ect.

My ex use to proudly display the calendar on the fridge for all visitors to see. Jotting down assembly days and hours spent in service each day was an affront to her pagan unbelieving family members that viewed the monthly spreadsheet (the few times that they would visit or be invited over.) Noting the anemic number of hours, placements and RVs on the calendar was her badge of honor. Her mother use to turn her head to avoid seeing tally and avoid vomiting. From what I'm told, she still does it. Looks like she is SOL unless she makes her own calendar with cheesy, staged pictures. -

"The Bunker" WT Conventions 2016 (Gag Me)
by Poztate inin the very near future the gang will be down in a bunker, cellar awaiting the police, military to break in and take them away to camps or executions .
(paranoid much) this is the foretold "prophecy" of the governments turning on religion and saving them for last.since the couple portrayed as simplifying their life by getting rid of a lot of material things is shown to be (about) the same age in the bunker we know it must be any minute now that it will happen.
i have been out for over 35 years and things seem to be getting more bizarre each year.. when did this doctrine really become main stream?

Years ago, I remember a special talk in the service meeting about buying a "go to pack." It's a pre-stocked emergency pack of medical supplies, water, and some semi non-perishable food. The rank and file jumped on it as life saving info from the governing body. They "did just so." People were sharing info on packs, prices, and suppliers. It seemed to fuel speculation of an impending terrorist attack or the great trib. They were on pins and needles waiting for the hammer to drop. Meeting attendance improved. My parents ordered 2 packs....because the power bars should last them the 10 days that the great trib would take. They encouraged me to buy some too. I didn't.....that was about 5 years ago and I'm sure that the power bars are not edible, the medical supplies are expired, and the adhesive on the tape and band aids are useless. Are they still pushing these "go to" packs on a yearly basis? -

There was a story circulating around the area about a brother that killed 2 dogs with his bare hands! I kid you not! While working a home, the householder became agitated. The brother exited the porch and started walking to the street. The man opened the door and sicked his two dogs on the brother. Instantly, the brother crouched down and faced the onslaught of the two canines. As the dogs simultaneously leaped at him, he grabbed one dog with his left hand and the other with his right hand. With his hands on their snouts, he twisted their heads, instantaneously broke both their necks, and killed both dogs. You see, 30 years early, the brother was in the special forces in Vietnam before becoming a JW. He was trained in killing dogs with his bare hands. It must have been angelic direction because anyone else in the congregation or car group would have been killed or severely torn up by the German Shepards. No one knows the any of the particulars such as the location, congregation, or names of those involved. JW urban legend. -

JW said they are unique
by StephaneLaliberte inlooking at a news article, i read the following:.
“that’s one thing that’s unique about jehovah’s people,” said marty mettler, a spokesman for the green bay convention.
“they even tell the hotels when they book they’re coming because some people book and don’t show.

The Green Bay news article is BS. I personally knew of elders that used their position to book hotel rooms ahead of the posting of "approved hotels" on the information board. After the list was posted, there was a mad scramble to book rooms right after the meeting. Many would book rooms at several hotels until they learned where their friends were staying. They would then cancel the other rooms so regular R&F JWs could claim the seconds. Some would wait until a week before to make their final choice....depending upon the latest beef with a "fellow soldier in Christ" Hotels would tell you that they were fully booked. You would call back a week before the assemble and many rooms were available.
