Are Jehovah's Witnesses Damned?

this is really aimed at evangelicals and people of other religions, especially those who left the jws and are now happily engaged in other christian faiths.

in short, based upon your present religious views, are jehovah's witnesses damned to an eternal hell for their beliefs?.

if you're an atheist or agnostic, this question ain't for you.

Never been a JW, just your regular non-denominational Christian my whole life. I personally think, from numerous Bible readings, that all that's really required for guaranteed salvation is to accept and confess Christ as savior and to repent of your sins. I also feel that any good people who had no faith in God or Christ will also be saved on the day of judgment. Maybe I'm too starry eyed or naive, but I feel that only genuinely bad people will be in hell.

I honestly feel that it doesn't matter what denomination you are, either. I used to, but when I became a more liberal-type Christian and REALLY read the Bible, I changed my mind. And I try not to associate with any church that says "so and so is going straight to hell!" Since you're judged with the same judgment that you put toward others, does that mean that those pastors are all going straight to hell?

Knocking on doors on weekday mornings is effective... how?

He always has similar stories when he goes out during week day mornings.

This brings me to the point... I'm assuming regular pioneers spend all their weekdays doing this. They might run into one or two people all day, most of whom are likely complete strangers. Why do they encourage that, rather than having a freaking job where you have dozens of acquaintances who know and like you who you can witness to? A) You will have more people to get interested, and B) They'll be more likely to listen to you since they know you and probably like you to some extent. The same goes for going to college. You'd have a ton more people around who you talk to in class, in the cafeteria, in the dorms, in the student union building, at the rec center, etc.

The whole thing just makes me laugh. Knocking on doors during the week when absolutely no one is home because most people have real jobs, or are looking for them, is apparently God's will. And every other religion is bad because they don't do this immensely productive thing. Just about every really religious person I've known from various churches I've gone to gets at least a few friends a year to check out the church life. Many stay. I've even managed to get a few, and I barely witness.

This JW system of "witnessing" is cuckoo. Do they actually think it's effective?

AGEING CONGREGTIONS

hi everyone on this forum,this is my first post but i have been lurking around here for about a year.

i was at the hall this morning and as i was looking round i noticed that, if 20 years down the line i was stood a the back looking around, more than half of those at the hall i attend would be dead due to old age.

if anyone still goes to a k/h ,are the ones in your k/h ageing.

My boyfriend said that at least 75 per cent of his congregation is over 40, about half overall are elderly. I guess the same for the Spanish congregation and the other English speaking one. He always says that he wants to marry a JW, (Yay, pointless arguments with him trying to get me to convert and be that one!) but I tell him that if he breaks up with me and tries to find one, he will probably have maybe three to choose from. The only single female JW under 30 in our city (out of about 400 JWs) is his sister. (Who has only ever dated "worldly" guys, too.) He'd have to go on a "find a JW lady I'm not related to" road trip.

I took philosophy 101 because I had to, and none of it had anything to do with religion. It was all a bunch of nonsense that I don't remember at all. haha The book was actually written by a professor at the college I attended, and apparently he quoted himself constantly. The professor I had would just get flustered, turn red, and start stuttering when anyone asked him a question. He also had some weird English accent that was sort of hard to follow for a bunch of American students. I drew doodles and BS'ed my way through everything since it kind of was all a bunch of BS. Even the professor couldn't answer the questions! haha

Anyway, becoming an evolutionist doesn't automatically negate belief in God. Also if their "truth" were so true, nothing they could learn in university would disprove it, yes?! What a bunch of dum dums. I went through college, lived in the evil dorms the whole time, and, my goodness, STILL BELIEVE IN GOD and didn't collect any STDs or babies from all the sexcapades that go on.

I do think a lot of JWs let their kids go to college, too. In my boyfriend's congregation, all but one of the youth between 18 and 25 is attending a university at the moment, including my boyfriend and his sister. At least the parents love their kids enough not to teach them this drivel. The Bible also says that not providing for your family is a sin. So if someone just goes out knocking on doors all the time or makes a wage that doesn't even meet their needs, how is that providing for them? Jehovah will smite them!

I found this site because my unbaptized JW boyfriend was really trying to get me interested in the religion. From the basics I knew, I didn't really agree with most of the stuff, and I wanted to come up with good ways to counter his thinking. It's hard when you've had no prior exposure to the JWs. This website has helped immensely. It's also helped me to realize that if he doesn't budge on the whole JW thing, we definitely can't get married. I wouldn't want my future kids thinking that their mother is going to be destroyed sometime "soon."

So, thanks guys! You all are so helpful!

Yeah, the Rangers are definitely going to win the AL West. The A's could snag a wildcard spot, though. They're not too far out in that race. I don't see it happening, but you never know! If Beane would stop getting rid of everyone every year, things might not be so bad. Their owner is just a turd, too. I kind of want to punch him... a lot.

And the Giants stadium is really, really nice. It's definitely worth visiting if you have the chance.

I'm a huge Oakland A's fan. They're pretty good this year considering their payroll is basically less than the payroll at a Home Depot store.

My mom keeps saying they'll be in the World Series this year. My parents are lifelong Giants fans who were over the moon during the 2010 Series, and she thinks it's the A's turn. Good luck with that! haha Their bullpen is really the only thing holding them back, I think. Their set up men are pretty terrible. Today my brother said "Balfour: Australian for walk" when we were all watching the game.

If you wanted to be really mean, you could go around to the fat guys and tell them to cover up better because their cleavage is stumbling you. That's only if you're pure evil, though.

You could leave Marlboro's all over the place.

Go around dressed as Jesus, have some friends dress up as Governing Body members, and have Jesus "do obeisance" to them.

Wear an "I love the Pope" hat, bring a rosary, carry a small statue of Mary, and ask when Pope Benedict is showing up.

Leave flyers around the various areas saying that there will a Magic the Gathering game halfway through the day's festivities in some section of the stadium.

When the baptisms start, start throwing in random inflated pool toys, like alligators and ducks. Offer water wings to the people walking in.

i made the point initally that i think when jesus was talking about reasons to get divorced, he was more or less just trying to discourage divorce for frivilous reasons.

you have to admit that there are a lot of people out there who just don't put much effort into it and just give up.

And it is really sad that so many people don't feel they can get married again in this organization. If a marriage falls apart, people shouldn't be expected to never love again. It's kind of tragic.

haha I've never heard bean flicking before. And I've definitely heard flogging the bishop for dudes. I have way too many perverted male friends who talk about stuff like that a lot.

I guess guys just tend to talk about that sort of thing more than women do, so there are a lot more fun terms for guys doing that. I've heard probably 15 at least.
