A JW I know was telling me how great Islam is because it regards Jesus as an important person but not God and they tend to not celebrate birthdays.

Question: Is JW religion the most attacked one?
by Da.Furious ini was having a chat with an elder and couple of friends regarding apostates and how to protect ourselves and funnily how to identify them!.
during the discussion the elder mentioned: jehovah's witnesses is most attacked religion in the world.
there are no other religions that are under the spotlight.

I think Judaism and Islam are both attacked a ton, especially Islam. Just go to any story about terrorists online, and look at the vitriol directed toward Muslims in the comments. Muslims make up about a quarter of the world's population, and they're all generalized as a bunch of Nutter Butters because of the actions of a few. Then there is the general murder and persecution of religious minorities in countries where the extremist Muslims are in charge. JWs are either completely oblivious to this stuff or maybe they find jokes about Jehovah's Witnesses more horrific. A few people annoyed with your being at their door is apparently the same as being murdered for some whackadoos.
The only negativity JWs get in general is broken down into two types: 1) The people who wish JWs would stop bothering them in their homes. 2) People who have a legit reason to hate the religion, either because their own lives or the life of a loved one was ruined by the Watchtower. The vast majority of the population literally knows nothing about them, and millions like me have never even had one at their doorstep.
It's just delusion! Maybe they're being tormented by "demons," and that's why they're so confused.

9yr old girl kills her gun instructor with an uzi
by EndofMysteries inhttp://www.cnn.com/2014/08/26/us/arizona-girl-fatal-shooting-accident/index.html?hpt=hp_t2.
"a 9-year-old girl learning to fire a submachine gun accidentally killed her instructor at a shooting range when the weapon recoiled over her shoulder, according to arizona authorities.
another reason to go against those arguing that young children should be taught how to use guns.

Shirley - Yeah, I don't have a problem with adults having guns. It's probably because practically every adult I know has one... welcome to red states! None of them has ever had a bad incident as a result. I do support more extensive background checks, but not a ban by any means.

In the state where I live, they just lowered the big game hunting age to ten. Our state relishes the idea of little kids brandishing firearms. I know of dozens of people who would think this story was totally fine. If you can't even drive until you're in the middle of your teens, you shouldn't be firing any guns... except a Super Soaker. You soak some super stuff til your heart's content!

You know what their magazines kind of remind me of?
by ilikecheese inthe parable of the boastful prayer vs. the humble prayer.
they're basically always saying, "thank goodness we are so holy and not like those crass 'worldly' people.
ew.

The parable of the boastful prayer vs. the humble prayer. They're basically always saying, "Thank goodness we are so holy and not like those crass 'worldly' people. Ew." haha And it kind of seems like they make fun of the Christians who would say a prayer like the humble prayer, too. "Just that prayer? That's nice. Where's your time card? Why do you still have so many of your magazines?!"
Or at least that's what I think. Feel free to disagree!

some dummy got a pamphlet that talked about the convention, the "one world government and who can lead" pamphlet.

Listener - Yeah, I know they were being a bit provocative to get people interested in their conventions. It's understandable that this was the guy's first reaction, but he probably should have looked into things a bit before he wrote this giant diatribe!

Someone on my Facebook posted this. Some dummy got a pamphlet that talked about the convention, the "one world government and who can lead" pamphlet. He proceeds to go on a righteously indignant tirade about how JWs say they're Christian but want a one world government, "the very thing the Bible warns about!"
Another gem: "The more interesting aspect of the Jehovah's Witness sect might lie in the fact that the organization has historically been apolitical, as members are not supposed to even vote. However, with the group now pushing the idea of a One-World Government as established by man, which, once again, is an adjunct of the New World Order, the argument could easily be made that the cult has apparently made the decision to veer hard Left and directly into the ranks of Big Government Statists."
Seriously, what an idiot haha. I'm not even a JW and I know they're talking about Jesus and the time after the "end of the world." A TEENY TINY bit of research could have explained this for him. I just thought I'd share.

JWs and catastrophic events
by ilikecheese ina natural disaster, a mass shooting, a building collapse, etc.
i sometimes peruse jw facebook groups or look at the public topics on jwtalk.
it seems like every single time something like that happens, at least 75% of the responses contain something along the lines of "i hope all the witnesses are okay!

A natural disaster, a mass shooting, a building collapse, etc. I sometimes peruse JW Facebook groups or look at the public topics on JWtalk. It seems like every single time something like that happens, at least 75% of the responses contain something along the lines of "I hope all the Witnesses are okay!" Like I read a post somewhere about Sandy Hook, and most of the people were just concerned that no JW kids/educators were hurt. No real sympathy for the 20 dead kids and six adults who died trying to save them, just concern for JWs.
So I was just wondering... Do you think that's due to A) caring more about Witness people than others, B) not caring one iota about "worldly people," C) some mix, or D) something else? It's just strange because the natural response is to be concerned about EVERYONE. I'm wondering what you guys think.

As a non-JW, the idea of not being able to spend any time alone with your intended before you get married is weird as hell. People are very different one on one than they are in a group. You're not going to know them AT ALL. And if you have to be considering marriage to even date, that pushes things through way too quickly. I just imagine on their wedding night, "So what's your middle name? What do you do for a living? How many siblings do you actually have?"
The Watchtower's general idea that everyone just wants to have sex all the time with anyone who comes with different genitals is super weird. I can imagine an elder saying... "I saw a plumber go into your home. I've seen video proof of what happens when a plumber goes into a woman's home. Do you have some confessing to do?"

Do you sense "a sense of urgency" in the congregations?
by truthseeker innow that we're in the 21st century, and all those pre-millenium worries that a few had about armaggedon seem to have gone, everyone seems to be getting on with their lives, buying homes, going on cruises and planning for their retirement.. not everyone does these things, but there is so little talk about the great tribulation, armaggedon and the new system, you can't help but wonder if they are just going through the motions.. i see young people at the hall - they couldn't care less about spiritual things, although they may comment and go out in service.. i see people in the 30s quietly getting on with life - a few are building their own homes from scratch, others are planning on moving and some have bought new cars.. nothing wrong with this, but each of these things show an investment in the future.
a car has to be paid for (if its a lease), a home needs a 15/25/30 year mortgage and this all takes time.. time with a capital "t".. let's face it - the urgency is gone.
no one thinks about the "time of the end" and everyone does their own thing.. families are still having children.. one of my college professors once asked me: "how do you know that people have confidence in the future?".

The other day, my JW boyfriend and I were talking about how everyone is going to die someday, including us. We're only in our 20s. He clearly doesn't think the end is coming in his lifetime. That's probably why he's still on the JW fence. "Eh, Big J is taking his time. So will I."
