i may start a series, "classic articles".. this article is from the watchtower of december 15, 1971. title: "a governing body as different from a legal corporation".
.."on friday morning, october 1,1971,the legal corporation known as watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania held its annual corporation meeting"..... fine, but here we go.. ..."at this meeting a question came up and was discussed from the platform.
it was as to what the relationship is between the board of directors of the society...and the governing body...are they the same, identical, or are they different?".....
Easy on the voting one: They put all the votes into a single big box, and then took them away to a magical counting room full of pixies and elves who lost the slips.
One of the governing body members slapped himself comically on the head and said "Well, if we just say that we knew the result of the vote because it was directed by God, then that's good enough for me!"
And lo! The vote was rigged!

we just had a letter read in our cong.
informing us that the society will no longer be sending out the magazines by subscription.
the letter said that this brings the usa in line with the rest of the world.
regarding the SWAT teams idea, an elder came to our house (when I lived in England with my parents, who were/are JWs) just to see how they were, because they'd missed the meeting (and, so we hear, because the CO had been on his arse about the lack of people being visited if they're not at meetings).
I was making myself some lunch, and wandered into the room whilst munching away happily. The elder smiled and asked how I was, becuase I'd stopped attending a few weeks back so I'd not been seen, and I said I was fine, and they were all chatting, so I kept myself to myself, to be polite, rather than screaming about the bullshit they were spewing.
SO he turns to me at one point and says "Jay, I thought you might like to come to the book study, rather than give up the meetings wholesale, we'll be studying the creation book, you might find it interesting."
I smiled and looked at him and said "Thanks, but no."
He laughed too and seemed to appreciate that I was at least straight with him.
One of my nicest experiences with an elder, that was.

"Jehovah's Witnesses Join 'Babylon the Great' Interfaith Effort
Jehovah's Witnesses have always claimed to be against interfaith 'contamination' considering all religions other than Jehovah's Witnesses "false" and collectively making up "Babylon The Great" (Rev. 17). However, seeking to join a forum gathering of sociologists and other religious organizations in a united effort for silencing secular and government critics through "CESNUR", the JWs have officially broken with their past history of shunning other religions and have opted to participate with the Church of Scientology, the Unification Church, the Transylvanian Society of Dracula, and other groups. Public awareness by anti-cult forces caused their cancellation from this CESNUR forum claiming "previous engagements.""

im relatively new to the board, but i wanted other people's opinions.. growing up in "the organization" i pretty much blindly adhered to all instruction as a teenager.. as i got a little older, as most here im sure, i began to see how some practices were imposed on the flock without any biblical backing.. one that bugged the living hell out of me was the restriction of being allowed to grow facial hair.. i was literally removed from carrying the mics and reading at bookstudy because my sideburns were too long and i wanted to grow a goatee, hence i often showed up with stubble.
i was taken to the back room and told i was being "too worldly.
" when i questioned the elders why it was unallowed by the society and that i wanted scriptural evidence and backing for their imposed regulations, i was scoffed at and told i should do as i am told.. i told them where they could stick their "priviledges" .
I was told my hair was getting too long on several occasions.
So I went through it scripturally, pointing out thatthe Society's publications say that the scriptures should be interpretec as "too long for your area/generation".
Who was right, I don't know in the end, but I remember becoming so pissed off with one dickhead for his comments that I let it grow long enough he wouldn't work with me on the ministry.
I think that was long enough for the fringe to reach my eyebrows :P

she asked him about the un thing.
"He knew nothing about it so it couldn't possibly be true. The WTS would keep him informed he was sure, of any such goings on."
Self important bastard
"Yes, brother, the GB ALWAYS ask me if what they're about to do is okay."

i understand it but at the same time i dont understand it because i was born and raised a jw so i was always in their mindset.
but how does someone who comes from the world and joins the org justify going against every natural instict they have?
i mean its just unnatural to turn against your own flesh and blood.
Personally, I liked the "I'm an idiot" answer best so far...

about a year or so ago i answered the door to find a man and a woman.
going door to door, the man(a white from the bahamas who was visiting these parts)i mentioned that(if i remember correctly!
)that i believed .
What'd it say?
"Did you know that there is this thing called SCIENCE that relies upon OBSERVATION and EVIDENCE rather than simply making things up? Yes! And you too can be a part of this SCIENCE by simply writing to us at Watchtower.org and sending in your cheques (on a purely oluntary basis of course, but we recommend two hundred dollars each)"?
