My wife is married to an unbeliever (she just doesn't know it yet) and our marriage is great too.
I'm in the same situation. I'm just waiting patiently for the light to finally come on about the WTBTS. Then I'll be asking her what took her so long.

i'm a jehovah's witness who's doubts about god have been kinda forced to front by some adulterous acts on my part.
i don't really feel the the jw's are dangerous presently, at least not any more than any other religion.
i do feel the urge to free myself from it and my marriage within the week.
Hi Maxwell,
Your profile is a more interesting read than you think it is. Furthermore, your willingness to come clean to your wife about your indiscretion speaks volumes about your courage and integrity. You've made a mistake, whether intentional or not, and now are willing to pay the price. That's much more than any on this board can say about those old geezers in Brooklyn.
I applaud your decision on coming clean with the wife, but if you're convinced that the WT is no longer the truth, why do you feel that you have to play by their rules in offering up a confessional to them at all. What they're most likely to do is look down their noses at you, guilt trip the hell out of you (supported by scripture of course), then DF you anyway. If DF is at the end of the tunnel, why should you put yourself through that nonsense.
I would just like to say that I think it is brave of you to go and confess your sins to the elders so that your present wife will be free to marry. It is the right thing to do. After all, she should not be punished just because of something you didDutchie, I have to somewhat disagree with you on this point, only as far as he should confess to the elders. If the JW's are as "loving" as they claim to be there should be no punishment forthcoming to her from the elders. There should be no stygma attached to her for something her husband did. Of course, we know this almost never happens by such a loving group as Jehovah's people. (sarcasm)
reading the other thread about answering at meetings gave me the cold shivers.
there is a fundamental part of being a witness that i've never understood, that just seems so at odds with the philosophy outlined by jesus and the apostles in the new testament - why weren't we allowed to ask questions at the meetings?
hmm???.
I remember when I first started attending the bookstudy. During the study one of the attendees dared to raise his hand and actually ask a question which brought about some grumbling among those present. The elder, who was studying with the guy who asked the question brutally put him down by saying that they'll discuss that at his private study and that here they were only authorized to discuss and answer question from what was in the text.
I never saw that guy at the bookstudy again.
i've been studying with the jw's for about a year now.
i know that by nature (or nurture!
) i have an addictive personality so i have tried to be real careful that i'm doing the right thing by getting involved with them.
I noticed that YK said nothing about the doctrinal flip-flops, the UN revelation, of the scare tactic JW psychobable they'll use to lure you into being a slave of thier publishing company. Just the same old canned answers coming from his real God, the old men in Brooklyn.
I said QUOTE]Stick to the issues you brought out and remind them that if what they have is the "real truth", one should not be afraid of other literature and that it should be able to withstand some scrutiny. To which he replied
That is typical apostate reasoning and it goes directly counter to the Bible's counsel, such as Paul's words at 1 Timothy 6:3-5, which reads: " If any man teaches other doctrine and does not assent to healthful words, those of our Lord Jesus Christ, nor to the teaching that accords with godly devotion, he is puffed up with pride not understanding anything, but being mentally diseased over questionings and debates about words. From these things spring envy, strife, abusive speeches, wicked suspicions, violent disputes about trifles on the part of men corrupted in mind and despoiled of the truth." Apostates have absolutely nothing of value to offer you. They only want to corrupt you. Like I told you, many of the XJWs on this board are extremely immoral and corrupt but they are so puffed up with arrogance that they also try to pass themselves off as experts on matters of spiritual truth.
This was the answer I took hook, line, and sinker too when I was studying. They are well versed in pulling out scriptures to suit whatever point they're trying to make. And when scripture doesn't work, they'll always turn to personal attacks on your character for daring to question their authority. This same scripture can be applied to all those in the governing body who through the years have sprouted forth false doctrines that have caused "envy, strife, abusive speeches, wicked suspicions, violent disputes about trifles on the part of men corrupted in mind and despoiled of the truth"(quote from the scriptured YK cites). All from a GB and Elder Class who themselves are puffed up with pride. Ask about the everchanging doctrines, the UN revelation, the poor excuses blaming their failured predictions on either God or the R&F for "running ahead". Ask them has the Society EVER apologised for a mistake or for that fact committed one. To them the WTBTS is perfection on earth, seperate but equal to God himself. While they'll tell you that their motivation is to protect the congregation, their real motivation is to protect the image of the WTS.
Meow921,
Whatever decision you make about being a JW, be sure to make an informed one. Get both sides of the organization and not just the rosy one they want you to see. Be careful that you're not wasting what could possibly be the most productive and best years of your life as a slave peddling magazines door to door for what stripped down amounts to a United States publishing empire.

You Know says
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Your continuing to lurk among us only pretending to be one of Jehovah's Witnesses is not an admirable thing to do and gives evidence that you are in reality a very weak-minded and cowardly individual who would rather live a lie than stand up for his convictions. Why should anyone give any credence to the jaundiced opinions of such spineless individuals?
---------------------------------------------------------------------
Now if this isn't a case of the pot trying to call the keetle black, I don't know what is? JW's lurk around the weak minded counting time, feigning a caring attitude till you're baptised and sucked in.
Take some of the advice on this board about looking into the WTBTS from resources outside of what those seemingly innocent and much older sisters or brothers are giving you. Print out, show, and question them about some of the things you've found NOW, and guage their reaction. With all their talk about what they have being the truth, instead of offering answers they'll quickly move to the scare tactics of it being apostate literature or that it's inspired by demons or people who only want to bring you down or seperate you from Jehovah's "fine arrangement". Don't fall for this. Stick to the issues you brought out and remind them that if what they have is the "real truth", one should not be afraid of other literature and that it should be able to withstand some scrutiny. Ask them to explain the doctrinal changes on blood and the generational change. Ask them to explain their involvement in the UN. Most of their foot soldiers are unaware that this ever transpired and you can believe that the WT wants to keep it that way. Their involvement in the UN is a shining example of hipocrisy at it's finest.
Once you're baptised and have been in the WT for a number of years, there is no easy way out should you start having doubts and questions about them. Ask those you are studying with about their policies on disassociating, disfellowshipping, being labeled an apostate or shunning, and you'll see why. When you go to your next meeting take a hard look at the people around you. There's a reason that most of them are some 30 or 40 years older than you. They've spent a lifetime "waiting on Jehovah", another line they're sure to hook you with. Everything and everyone they know is connected to the organization in some way, so even if some are having doubts, they are, to use You Know's terms, living a lie, because they have been conditioned through long exposure to WT doctrines to just live with it and keep their mouth shut. Those who question too much are kicked to the curb, cut off from the support system they've come to depend on.
For some, being a JW is a good thing. It provides a rigid structure they feel they need in their life. All of life's decisions condensed into 5 meetings a week, two bi-monthly publications, all provided by a few old men in Brooklyn far removed from what the average person has to go through every day. If that's what you're looking for then you're sure to fit right in, just look at and evaluate all the information available independantly, and not just blindly follow them with you "Eyes Wide Shut".
how come every year during the memorial talk they say the number of partakers is dwindling.
if they just look back at the numbers in their own literature, its hovered around 8-9k, going up and down for decades.
example 2000: 8755 partakers.
Did anyone else who happened to attend the memorial notice how most of the talk centered around those who are supposed to partake and how if there's any doubt, you should not? I got the distinct impression that the non-dimishing annointed class has been an unexplainable thorn in the Society's side for some time now and they are taking steps now to ensure that the number diminish. It's my guess that soon, they will stop announcing the number of the annointed remnant since they have moved to the new understanding of the generation doctrine. I can imagine that it's gonna get pretty hard 13 years from now to explain to the R & F why there are still some 8000 of the remnant still left on earth, those who were supposed to have been born in 1914.
if you were a gb member how would you reply to this letter?.
i am writing in reply to your letter of the 22 nov 2001.. i had previously written with concern over some statements found in the aug 1, 2001 watchtower pg 14 which stated, a mature christian does not advocate or insist on personal opinions or harbour private ideas when it comes to bible understanding.
you asked me not to take the statement out of context, but failed to explain clearly how i had done so.. it is my understanding that it is believed that the governing body of jehovahs witnesses has the sole responsibility and is the sole channel that can understand and teach gods message in the bible.
You'll not get any answer from the GB on that. They're too busy discerning new light and properly timed spiritual food. You'd best be served to just shut your mouth and believe what they tell you.
(sarcasm)
letter writing is just one of the many ways that we can do witnessing.
i have known of sisters and brothers that went through the newspaper looking for obituaries (death announcements) and researched the family members then wrote them a brief letter included the brochure "when someone you love dies".
in doing this some have started bible studies.
A certain close JW relative of mine took the opportunity of going back to a church to pass out the "when someone you love dies" tracts just after a funeral had ended as they were loading the deceased into a hearst. I was actually shocked and very pissed that they would do this, but they felt that they had a moral obligation to offer "comfort" at the time. What a crock!
1. you think the girl in the ankle length dress, neck high sweater, and long sleeve shirt is showing to much skin.. 2. you think it is smart to leave school early to spend your days not working for a living, but driving around handing out magazines.. 3. you think most disney movies are questionable for your kids to watch.. 4. you think smurfs are demons.. 5. you call kids "youths" all the time.. 6. you spent your families vacation at a district convention.. 7. you spent you first date, and last date with your spouse before marrying with a chaperon.
and you were both in your 30's and virgins.. 8. listening to barry manillow is considered rocking it.. 9. you once washed your childs mouth out with soap for saying "dang" or "darn".
10. your idea of family fun is playing bible trivia and reading the song book.. 11. if someone in your church once counseled you for wearing perfume.. 12. you consider a death in the family as a preaching opportunity.. 13. you think 7 billion people are wrong and 6 million are right.. 14. you base a good job on whether or not it works with your church schedule.. 15. if you are at this site and reading all these post and saying ... these are all lies.
When my wife first started studying she actually committed act #12 on a group of strangers. We just happen to be passing by a church where a funeral was going on. When we got to our destination, she actually took the car and went back to the church to take the opportunity to give the bereaved family a "tract".
I should've taken that as a hint then what JWs were all about. But did I listen,,NNNNOOOOOOOOOOO.
Blind mindcontrol at it's finest....
this 3d illustration is something i did as a part of a face lift for randy waters site i have been working on.
i hope all you bethel spies like it.
you are more than welcome to use it for the next watchtower cover, you have my permission.
Great picture
Graphical representation that speaks volumes about what the WT is really about.
