I was told by an elder the other week that my husband and I should put our forms in even if we didn't think we could do the hours

Latest Watchtower page 30... They have some nerve to put this!
by TimothyT inone thing that i have always noticed even when i was a jw is that the jw org has lots and lots and lots of rules for allsorts of stupid petty rules which make no difference.
when you read the bible you see how they are clearly in the wrong here and are acting like the pharisees themselves, who imposed so much pressure on others to conform to the law.
am i missing something here!?!?

I've decided I'm going to comment on this paragraph when it comes up. I haven't bothered commenting for nearly a year so it should have quite an impact.
Can anyone put together a comment for me that makes the point but isn't too aggressive. Subtlety is the key but I've been told I don't do subtle very well.

Welfare Elders
by hoser ini had wanted to start this topic before but never had a chance.
i'm sure it's been dealt with before so i apologize in advance for bringing up again.. .
do you know of or ever know of elders who do the very minimum to work so that they can get the maximum child allowance, food stamps, medicaid etc?.
-
PrincessCynic
it's true that you don't live that well on welfare or benefits but some JWs get round that by getting another JW to live in their spare room and pay half their rent and bills. Then they get all the glory for 'helping out a needy brother' . Sorted.

I don't miss the guilt, the meetings, the assemblies, the preaching, the people, the relentless 'spiritual' routine.
I do miss the feeling that I had all the answers (without having to do anthing more than read a watchtower to find them), that I knew what decision to make every time without having to take responsibility. Thinking for yourself for the first time is a huge shock to the system. I also miss my little fantasy land where I was going to live forever in paradise and travel the world and never get sick.

Had dinner with friends-found out none of got Baptized because we loved God
by PaintedToeNail inmy spouse and i had supper with some long time friends this evening.
we got onto the subject of baptisim, and out of the four of us, we all got baptized for some other reason than love of jehovah.
i find this to be really sad.
-
PrincessCynic
Because the elders banned me from seeing my boyfriend unless we were both baptized. We both said we'd already dedicated and wanted to get baptized at the next assembly (not exactly true). Then they let me get baptized but not him so it turned out I still wasn't allowed to date him :(
I was a very messed up, confused 16 year old.

New Field Service Policy - jw's assigned to neighborhoods
by skeeter1 ini am looking for confirmation on the following:.
jws are now being individually assigned to smaller territories, and they are told to consistently work that same territory over & over again.
the reason is that the watchtower wants the jws to build relationships with the people in that area.

I've heard of this before too. A DO (or CO?) we once had was pushing the idea. According to him this is how the preaching work is organised in every other country and the way we do it here is ridiculous and extremely inefficient in comparison. I agree but personally I don't see it happening. Most go to field service groups mid-week as a social thing, get really grumpy if they get sent to a street on their own and only stay out as long as they do because of peer pressure and an unspoken expectation to work til a certain time. Only the hardcore witlesses would do it properly.
By the way, when there's talk of 'working alone' I don't think it means literally alone, everyone would still have a partner and work in twos but they would have their own territory to go to and not be directed by a brother with the map.

untitled
by PrincessCynic inso i've got a huge pile of magazines that i took from the literature desk but never got round to going out in field circus to place them.
oops!
i'm wondering if i could put them to better use.. this could be helpful for any of you faders who have annoying jw relatives who insist on bringing the latest rags round every month, or those of you still in who want to do the public a favour by removing them from the hall and not placing them.

Can you also tell I'm a bit mentally challenged? If someone could tell me how to edit the thread title so it actually has a title then people will know what they're clicking on before they come here and get visually assaulted by my random ramblings. It would be very much appreciated. When I click on the pencil in the corner I get an error message .

So I've got a huge pile of magazines that I took from the literature desk but never got round to going out in Field Circus to place them. Oops! You know how it is.
I'm wondering if I could put them to better use.
This could be helpful for any of you faders who have annoying JW relatives who insist on bringing the latest rags round every month, or those of you still in who want to do the public a favour by removing them from the hall and not placing them. This is especially relevant with the current mag being Sex issue that even die-hard JWs are refusing to offer
Here's what I've got so far...
1. Shoe and boot mat. Lay a few ripped out pages by the door and place muddy boots on.
2. Grill cleaner. Soak magazines in water, lay across a warm BBQ grill, close the lid, let them soak for an hour, remove and wipe the grill clean. Voila!
3. Vegetable drawer liner. Place sheets in fridge to catch mess from rotted produce.
4. Garden mulch. Use in your fruit, veg or flower garden. Cut a hole in the middle and slide it over the plant. It keeps weeds down and holds water.
5. Hat Shapers. Screw up pages and put inside hats before storing to stop them getting flat.
6. Decorating. Wipe off used paint brushes.
7. Window Cleaning. Use vinegar, water and magazines to clean windows and mirrors.
8. Packing. Shed magazines and use as free packaging when you send fragile items through the mail.
9. Make a funnel. Just roll up a few pages.
10. In the kitchen. Lay a few pages on your counter before cutting up messy fruit & veg. When done just fold up and throw away.
11. Ripen tomatoes. Wrap up green tomatoes in magazine pages. Layer them in a box & close the lid. Keep them warm & check on them every few days until ready.
12. Use as firestarters. I've always believed this is why it was fairly easy to place mags in rural areas in winter months
13. Use as a mat when polishing shoes.
14. Wrap & store Christmas tree ornaments
15. Stuff in wet shoes to dry.
16. Wrap around candle bottoms so they'll fit holders tighter.
17. Line waste baskets.
18. Line a bird cage.
19. Put under car wheels when stuck in snow, mud or sand.
20. Litter Box liners. Place in the bottom of your cats box, you'll use less litter and they'll absorb wetness.
Can you tell I'm a frugal housewife?!
More ideas welcome

Looking for Watchtower images of Sisters
by jwfacts incan anyone recall or have scans of some watchtower images of sisters?
i am particularly interested in those that show the headship arrangement, such as a sister displaying submission to a husband or elder.
even better, have there been any images of sisters wearing head coverings.

I'm not sure if it's what you're looking for but there is a picture in the latest Feb 2012 study edition pg 19 of a witness family. The husband is teaching, giving spirtual instruction to the kids while the wife is... wait for it... WASHING UP! P*SS*D me off a bit. They would never show that the other way around.
Also, just wanted to say thanks for all the hard work and research you put into your website, I really appreciate it.
