  i ran into some jws i knew last night and asked them if i could get the latest magazines; no-one seems to call on us anymore!

  they said they'd be around sometime today.. what subject should i bring up?

  Well, now you have a little while to reflect on what you will say and to gather other helpful suggestions from others on this board.

  The people who have their subscriptions MAILED to them get them a bit sooner than the mags that show up at the magazine counter and have to be unpackaged (and COUNTED?). I just got my 6/1 in the mail on Friday, though I think someone else was already quoting from it here on Thursday. Your friends should have their June mags in their hot little hands very soon!

  I know that there is SO MUCH you want to get through these Witnesses' heads!!! It's very hard to be tactful and subtle, but if you want to "effect some good" you must restrain yourself as DD cautioned.

  Let's hear what the others have to say.

  Still laughing at the "Fred should be obscene and not heard" quip!

  Reading Obituaries

  in a norwegian local newspaper, a reader is being quite pissed off because some jehovah's witnesses accidentally showed up at her door just after her husband died.. apparently she is aware of such coincidences occurring before in the district to the extent that she dont think it is a coincidence at all.

  of course the local jehovah's witness spokesman denies any such organized effort on the part of jehovah's witnesses.

  they do not read obituaries to collect names, he claims.. so what do you have to say folks?

  I'm sorry you got roped in, and I'm sorry about the loss of your little girl.

  I lost my nephew when he was only 2 and my sister was never the same afterwards. This was in '73 and she and I had both been studying with the Witnesses that year. I must say that the resurrection hope was a great comfort to us. I met my husband-to-be in '74 and chose him over Jehovah at the time. So I missed the disappointment of '75.
  When I joined up 15 years later, my sister tried to tell me that it was just a place where earnest people followed imperfect men, I didn't want to hear it! Now she's dead these past 7 years and doesn't know that I'm finally,

  one of the traits that is most endearing about a lot of witnesses is that they will not listen to logical arguments raised by family, friends, or *gasp* apostates, but they will listen to the most contrived and specious arguments that the writing dept.

  can spew forth.. then in the style of swift, i submit a modest proposal for getting past these defenses:.

  distribute an apostate watchtower issue.. we all know exactly how watchtowers look- the size, paper, style of artwork, and phrases used in the writing.

  Publishers may still have personal subscriptions delivered by mail to their home addresses. (I just renewed my mail subs before I left the Borg and am still receiving them.)

  It is true, however, that the Society is asking the r&f to deliver subs to interested ones in their territory -- the better to start Bible studies with, my dear....

  some of you guys still believe the strange things your mom and dad said but didnt explain like not eating count chocula cereal.

  didnt ever occur to you that maybe your parents thought that keeping you away from something as simple as a cartoon dracula might be in your best interests?

  This "Faldon" game on your website. It seems to concern Sorcerer/Sorceresses as well as some nasty weapons.

  Why are you, then, implying that vampire cereal is a danger to one's spirituality and that Satan can use to it demonize youngsters?
  At least with the cereal you pour it into a bowl, splash some milk over it, and decimate Count Chocula in about 5 minutes!

  How much time do you spend using the 'Cheats' offered on your website to progress to the Sorcerer level? Wouldn't that be "allowing room for the Devil" in a much more serious way? (You don't even get your vitamins and minerals with games!)

  I've met one on the writing commmittee, Jim Pellechia, and he does not profess to be one of the anointed.

  He was/is an elder in my inactive friend's congregation in NJ. When she became inactive and discouraged after her daughter was disfellowshipped for smoking, I called him out of desperation because she had deep respect for him. He was very sweet and asked me what I'd like him to do. I asked him to call on her, because she viewed him with great affection. I am pleased to report that he did so. A few weeks later he visited her, and the result was that she began attending meetings again (I considered this a 'success' at the time!).
  During the course of our conversation, he asked how I "came into the Truth." Came to find out that the sister who studied with my fleshy sister was a good friend of Jim's. She was now living in California, could he give her my address? I said yes. (She did write me later.)

  A few months later, perhaps, Bro. Pellechia invited my girlfriend to attend a party he and his family were holding for a niece (I believe) who had gotten her nursing degree. The party was at Bethel at a time when I was back East for a visit. Who do you think my girlfriend asked to come along for the evening? Me. I went. It was at the Bossert -- beautifully restored. Bro. Pellechia & I never let on that we had ever spoken by phone.

  a baby is doing well after undergoing five blood transfusions while still in the womb.. doctors carried out the transfusions after discovering toby panther's blood group was incompatible with his mother.. tina panther had started to produce antibodies which slowly attacked toby's red blood cells, turning him anaemic.. experts put a needle through tina's womb and through toby's tummy into a vein in his liver at london's university college hospital.. each transfusion, which used an ultrasound to guide the needle, risked miscarriage.. miss panther, 39, didn't know until she was five months pregnant that she was going to have a baby.

  Toby and Tina had Rh incompatability.

  If nothing had been done Toby would have risked being born with anything from anemia to severe mental retardation to never having made it out of his mother's womb alive. (Hemolytic disease.) Let's hope the blood transfusions were done soon enough that his health is not compromised.
  
  And, you are correct, X, this is not the first intra-uterine blood transfusion.
  
  There is a blood fraction, gamma globulin, that Tina might have taken to prevent the necessity for the transfusions had she known she was pregnant (don't ask me how she got 5 months along without knowing!!!).
  If the mother is Rh neg and the father Rh pos, the mom can be screened throughout her pregnancy with blood tests to see if her body is attacking the fetus. If so, then intervention might be necessary.

  Why do I know so much? I am Rh negative and have delivered 3 Rh positive children. I took the Rhogam (tm) shots during each pregnancy and only one child had a mild case of jaundice at birth.

  It is important for parents-to-be to know their blood types and Rh factors. If there is an incompatability, the Society does allow the use of the gamma globulin blood fraction. (June 1990 Watchtower) There is also a post-partum shot to be taken to ensure that in the rare event the mother's and child's blood mixed during delivery, she will not build up anti-bodies against the positive blood type. If she should build up antibodies, all future fetuses are at risk for the problems listed above. Her immune system will attack them, as Tina's did Toby's. So, for the sake of the future kiddies, the shot should be taken within (I think) 24 hours of delivery.

  What good would this do? ... The better fallout though, will be for future issues of the Watchtower. ... The next time the watchtower tries to slip by a doctrinal revision of major importance, don't you think the experience with our publication will make our readers pause for a second?

  Birthday/baby shower?

  yesterday, my six year old figured out that a birthday is a celebration of your day of birth.

  i didn't realize she hadn't made that connection yet (she's a bit fuzzy headed sometimes, but cute as can be).

  then she states, "so when you get presents for a baby bfore it is born, that is the babies first birthday".

  I cannot believe such rubbish was published and accepted! I certainly resent being called a "creature," but that's likely just my "Jezebel influence" showing! [8>]

  Anyone else take exception to the assertion that Jesus used the miracle at the wedding in Cana to glorify God? Didn't he, in fact, change the water into wine in a very unobtrusive manner? Isn't the Bible silent on the matter of how much he drank, how he and his disciples conducted themselves at the wedding, whether they feasted, danced to contemporary music, and/or played "silly games"? Isn't this QFR material conjecture? (If Jesus was perfect then he was likely the perfect party guest -- going along pleasantly with events as long as they weren't unlawful.)

  Just thought I'd ask for Geoff's benefit.

  Geoff, why does your web page mention sorcerers and sorceresses if you're so concerned about Count Chocula cereal in the house? Hmmmmm?
