today, whilst shopping, i ran into an old school friend of mine that i had been quite close to.
i used to write her 'sick' notes for her, so as you can imagine, we're friends forever now.. anyway, she tells me that she is studying with jehovah's witnesses again.
i think she expected me to be thrilled with this news.

the pope is called papa in italy.
he may be a shell of the man he was, but many in this world have experience peace because of the work he did in his lifetime.
here is how he was instrumental in fighting communism.
I spent time this evening blessing this man, whom I believe to be an individual of great personal integrity. May his exit from this world into the next come amid a certain sense that he did a good job of speaking out against injustice, of apologizing for the wrongs committed by his Church, of opposing genocide and of affirming life. Though I did not agree with many of his conservative views, I appreciated his great love for humankind and his devotion to his faith. Be at peace, Karol, Pope John Paul II.

i don't come to the boards much any more but was reading today and wanted to say hi to all from the past and convey my best wishes to you all.
i miss many of you - especially some of those to whom i was close.
i have been a loner for the past year and have hardly been in contact with anyone from the xjw community.
Hi, (((Donkey)))!
Nice to "see" you!

you've been seriously injured at action park.
you know that the only people who call it "joisey" are from new york (usually the bronx) or texas.
you don't think of citrus when people mention "the oranges.
Ha! Ha!
I'm from New Jersey! Bergenfield -- the hotbed of persecution?!!! -- lol!!!! Nina - why did I never know you had a NJ connection? I went to the Englewood Hall in the early 70's (but too new and then gone too soon to really take in the 1975 debacle).
Aude -- I remember Lillian Heller, but none of the other names you mentioned were familiar. I studied with Helen Cerniglia and Lillian Hamilton and then with Brother Vas. Was there a scandal of some sort with him at one point? And the Hills -- Ray and MaryEllen studied with my sister. He's out of "the Truth" and she's living in Michigan with her son now, devotedly shunning little ol' DAd moi...

the cult of four "just imperfect" men.
(please move on to the next thread, fluffers.
move on!
Thanks, Farkel!
ok, i have not had a lot of experience with death and the one loved one...really loved like a brother ...person that passed in 2002 was my first close, hurt your heart friend to go.
so this last year, maybe year and a half, i have worked with the same 14 to 16 people.
between all of us we have had at least twenty loved ones die, and one of our group that i sat next to for 4 years died.
((((((((Sparkplug)))))))
When it rains, it pours, eh? Please know that I, too, will be offering up prayers for your well-being and strength for your grandma in the days to come. I'm a firm believer in life after death (wasn't always, but am now), but as you have been finding out, death burdens the living left behind, not the dead. So look after yourself, please.
Perhaps take something mild to help you sleep (Tylenol PM? Valerian Root?) and make sure you eat right and drink plenty of water. Help your body cope with the mental stress by exercising, too. Walk during your lunch hour? The exercise might help you sleep without any aids, too.
Wishing you comfort,

a simple tooth extraction has led to this.
it was an upper tooth that was root canaled.
canal went bad and i had it pulled out in about six pieces.
Just caught this, Satanus!
Glad to hear all went well and you are on your way to recovery. Here's that beer that you missed with Funky et al. :
i have noticed now and in the past that most, if not all sisters, go clothes shopping right before the memorial.
they make it out to be this huge deal.
almost to the point where if they do not get that new dress from nordstroms, they won't be able to be seen at the memorial.
Heck, catchthis! The Memorial was the ONLY JW Holy Day! Of course, we wanted to use it as an excuse to get all gussied up! My kids used to get new clothes (son got a new suit), new shoes, hair cut & styled, etc. All of the department stores were having sales, of course, because the Memorial invariably was around Easter time. Just as Scully mentioned, it was sort of like getting dressed up for the Easter Parade. LOL We always took pictures, too, of the kids and their friends in their finery.
(Lena said just the other day that the Memorial was the only meeting she never minded attending. I wonder why? Of course, she also said we should go this year to drink some wine and eat the bread and raise a ruckus, but I'll be damned if I'm ever setting foot in a KH again!)
Love,
Brenda
the pope was admitted to hospital and on the national tv (rai) they were saying that he has an entire apartment right in the h just for himself, not only that but the room just below was emptied just to avoid noise for him.
unbelivable!
recently a man in italy died because the ambulance could not find a bed for him in a hospital so by the time they arrived to the one bed that was available 200kms away he was dead.

Your posts are rife with errors and show a great deal of ignorance about how the Catholic church works. I am not a Catholic, I AM an ex-JW.
One of the reasons I left the Organization was because I saw, from Charles T. Russell's own writings, that the Watchtower Society's hierarchy (Governing Body, Bethel Overseers, District Overseers, etc.) had evolved into the very sort of organization that Russell and the early Bible Students considered scandalous as regards the Roman Catholic Church. Please know that the Governing Body is every bit as corrupt and self-serving as the Magisterium of the RC Church when it comes to protecting Body Members' power and privileges (beginning with Pope Charles ).
The present Pope, aging and becoming less and less fit for duty, has no choice but to carry on as the leader of the world's Roman Catholics, because the Papacy is bestowed for life . He cannot step down. While I disagree with his insistence on a celibate priesthood and against modern birth control, I applaud his personal integrity and the example he set in personally combatting political injustice, speaking out against genocide, apologizing to the Jewish people for Rome's complicity in the Holocaust, advocating peaceful negotiation rather than war, and travelling extensively to bring his office within reach of his faith's adherents.
I can even understand why he might equate abortion with the Holocaust. The Nazi's goal with the extermination of entire Jewish families and especially the immediate gassing of most children, was to rob the Jews of their future. For a religion which sees the fusion of egg and sperm cells as the beginning of viable offspring, and which considers the gift of life miraculous and God-given, abortion can also be seen as robbing humankind, and more particularly Roman Catholics, of their future. Abortions definitely tally in the millions, if not billions, in the Twentieth Century, although admittedly, not all abortions were performed on Roman Catholics.
I think your broad generalizations are inappropriate and mean-spirited. I also have trouble recalling Catholics coming to this website to start threads criticizing the Governing Body. The older I get, the more I value kindness.
