.
well today is my wonderful husbands' birthday.. when we were first together he didn't want presents, cake, no celebration at all.. last night he was so excited about his gifts he opened one in the middle of the night.
he wants pizza for his birthday dinner and to go out for ice cream instead of a birthday cake.. i just feel happy that he's come so far and doesn't see birthdays as some evil happening.. wg

i was remembering today about a bible study an elder's wife took me on once (actually, her elder husband was the congregation overseer).
after the chapter was over for that day (i think the knowledge book), the elder's wife asked when we could arrange the next study.
the frail single mother of three evaded the question, and the elder's wife persisted.
Confession and Jethro,
I rather doubt that Grace would have recalled this event if the elder's wife had blurted out something incredibly insensitve as reported, but then backtracked to offer her study (single mother of THREE?!!!) some compassionate assistance. We have all made gaffes and responded inappropriately at times to bad news, but a civilized CHRISTIAN would have realized her mistake at once, apologized, and proceeded to offer concrete help. Surely this incident stuck out because NO amendments were made to elderette's "I've-got-my-own-agenda" remark.

here's the letter i wrote to the body of elders i served with for decades, when they invited me to a judicial committee meeting two months ago.
i have not heard a word from them since i wrote this.
i posted this monday night (may 30, 2005) to celebrate my 500th post, but it ended up in the "heated debates" section, when i intended it to go in this area.
Fabulous letter, Seeker4! It will be interesting to see how they respond (if at all).
I'm sure you'll keep us posted?

LOL @ Gary!!!
Emma, CatchThis, and Jeff --
I had heard that Michiganders (and geese) were going to Toledo. Perhaps it depends on the Circuit? Dayton seems far when there are 8 dates at Toledo.
Jeff is right. The Silverdome was used for the DC up until last summer. I have not heard that the 'dome is scheduled for demolition, despite having lost the Lions. It is still being used by the City of Pontiac for other entertainment events.
Catch -- my congregation was assigned to the 300 level. (The price to pay for having the DC in our backyard?) Talk about HOT!!!!!! Many brought those little battery-operated fans that spray water. And many just refused to sit where they were assigned. Like most of the elders and MSs, who either sat in the airconditioned press box if they were on the program, or down on the 100 level where the heat was more bearable. Somehow THEY didn't have to follow theocratic order.... Damn hypocrites!!!!
.
compared to where they are heading if they don't accept jesus as their personal savior instead of the wt organisation.
any comments?
JWs are not even close to half-way to a spiritual paradise based on Bible knowledge, if that's what you mean, Honesty!
Anyone can be in a spiritual paradise of their own making.
I agree with that, but it has nothing to do with this, in my opinion:
Simply claim to be special, claim to know the truths about the mysteries of the universe, claim to be better than everyone else, claim to be happy....and keep repeating that until you convince yourself. Viola. Paradise. To me, true paradise is knowing that one is NOT special, but rather that we are all interconnected and thus each have inherent value that has nothing to do with whatever religion (or lack thereof) to which one ascribes. If this has to be related to Jesus, remember that he said that the kingdom could be found in each one of us. Start trusting that (Witnesses pooh-pooh the concept) and see if present life seems more peaceful and happy for you. outnfree
as some of you may know brenda/outnfree is going in for surgery on fri may 20 @ 10 am est.
lets all send our collective prayers/good vibes to her during this hard time.
(((((brenda))))
Thank you, (((((one and all)))))) for your prayers and good wishes.
I made it out of surgery, and it went pretty well. Unfortunately, it looks like I'll need chemotherapy after all, because the cancer was in at least two of my lymph nodes (and we're awaiting the pathology reports on the rest of them). I'm not sure how I feel about all this. It seemed at first that lumpectomy and radiation would be enough, and I already had misgivings about the radiation. Chemotherapy and my family history don't go well together, either. So I've got lots of reading and weighing of options to do.
Then, too, this screws up my school plans. I had already dropped out of one spring course. So depending on when chemotherapy starts, I may have to skip my summer class as well, and just keep the one I need to complete requirements for my Associates Degree, so I can graduate on June 17. And what it will mean for Fall, I have no idea. I'm feeling very stuck. Just when I think I'm getting unstuck (for example, my mother's estate is progressing and my divorce finally happened), something new comes up that reminds me that I can't always be in control. I think my lesson must be "patience."
So I'll be trying to be patient gracefully instead of railing against Fate.
Thanks again for your support, everyone. It is greatly appreciated!
