I'm not sure if they monitor DBs or not, but I also think it's likely that they do.
At my non-judicial-committee-meeting-but-there-were-three-elders-in-attendance-anyway, after I submitted my disassociation letter, one of the elders specifically asked me if I had been doing research on the internet. I was "cautious as a serpent, innocent as a dove" as I mentioned sites for multiple Bible translations and early church history in my reply, but I thought to myself, if I hadn't already been on the internet, I would've gone straight to my computer after that session just to see what was out there that they were so afraid of.

Wayne,
I hate to be harsh. Not really my character. But you have got to be out of your mind to have been through the Witless experience of false dates, timelines, etc., and still come here spouting such nonsense as I have just read above.
If you believe your Bible "No man knows the hour," and your talk of "the end" happening earlier in 2005 rather than later just echoes some past Freddy Franz nonsense which ALSO turned out to be the ramblings of a non-too-stable man!
BTW -- I didn't condemn CHRIST's teachings, just the WTs. (Christ said to GIVE Caesar's things to Caesar, and Paul tells us to pray for political leaders.)
And I hang out here as a purposefully disassociated person because of just such false prophecies as yours.outnfree

Or here's another translation:
Twenty-one year old, Remi, who suffers from [a certain form of] leukemia needs a transfusion in order to be treated with chemotherapy. If he were to accept such treatement, he would have a 70-75% chance of survival, by refusing the transfusion, barring a miracle, he has practically no chance at all.
Remi is one of Jehovah's Witnesses, and the teaching of his religion forbids blood transfusions. Jehovah's Witnesses require, as a condition of being recognized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses, that one refuse all transfusions or be excommunicated. They villify their opponents and formally prohibit their members from reading anything written by their opponents which they view as being inspired by Satan.
If Remi had had access to information without any pressure from his movement, he could have discovered that the refusal of blood transfusions is not biblical:
http://www.jwbloodreview.org/FrenchJWbloodreview.html
http://www.chez.com/tjrecherches/lettres.htmUnfortunately, the demonization of the outside and particularly "apostates" did not allow Remi to make an informed choice weighing all options. In addition, the insistance of his movement on non-blood management which are efficacious in some cases, and the absence of information from this same movement on cases where transfusion is necessary aggravates things.
His upset father, wanting only the survival of his son, has contacted the ADFI (Association....) and has no recourse because his son is of legal age. This petition's purpose is to make the Prime Minister aware of the consequences this teaching of Jehovah's Witnesses produces, as well as to demand that the current directors of the Jehovah's Witnesses movement make known to their members that in certain circumstances blood transfusion are necessary for survival.
You can help by signing the electronic petition found at:
[email protected]
Indicate your first and last names and address, and write a short note supporting Remi's father. Your comments will then be forwarded to the Interministerial Mission for the Fight Against Sects.Thanking you in advance"
I wrote to Charles asking what the ADFI is, but haven't gotten a response yet. I'm thinking it's some sort of social agency that would normally protect children from themselves or others, but that's conjecture on my part.
Hope this helps.

Tonight's memorial - did you go?
by dmouse inmy wife has just left for the memorial.. just before she went she asked me to come...this was the second year in a row that i declined.
i hated seeing her so sad, i almost agreed to go just to cheer her up but that would betray her in a very real sense.
to go to the memorial would be an admission in her eyes (and other jws) that i still believe deep down that it is the truth.

Just wanted to say welcome, BugEye.
What a GIANT step, but one in the right direction, I'm convinced, for you and your family.
How nice that your mother sees it your way too.
Walk softly and lovingly with the in-laws and all may work out wonderfully well one day.outnfree

My take?
Rustom Padilla is a Filipino movie/TV actor who was married to another movie/TV star and they were some sort of "golden couple" -- think Nicole Kidman/Tom Cruise.
His family were involved with the witnesses for 15 years, but that's not how long he's been dedicated and baptized.
His reference to the "cross" was just a way of using a term which would be understood by his interviewer and his audience (TMS training?) -- the interviewer is having him reflect on his new religion during the Lenten season of orthodox Christianity -- Rustom was formerly a Catholic.
He likely wasn't baptized when he met Carmina, which is why he could do the Valentine's schtik for their first Valentine's together (and why even now during the worldly celebration he's nostalgic for the past). He got baptized and she began studying too after they were married. Before her dedication, she gave him the balloons for V-day.
The article says she studied three years before she was baptized. His world collapsed when they broke up after three years of marriage, the marriage having ended three years ago, and the only place he would go during his depression and --what's the name of that phobia when you don't want to leave home? --Agoraphobia? was to the Kingdom Hall.
And his brother seems to be well-known but infamous, having done jail time, and is no longer a Witness but has converted to Islam.
