Most people seem to have the NIV so I use that at church and bible studies. However, I agree with Blondie that there are many times I find it very 'slanted'.
My personal favorite for research and serrmons (when I can get away with it!) is the ESV.
Downunder this is known as the Eastern Suburbs Version whilst the NIV is the Non-Ideologival Version!
Make of that what you will.

G'day MUNKA:
A sidepoint: could you do some paragraphing and grammar checking before sending a post? It'd make it a lot easier to follow.
Now come on, even in NZ they teach that, don't they!

"Our halls vary with the climate and security concerns of a region. For example in the Caribbean they are open-air . . . but in the United States we have given quite a bit of attention to security and vandalism, so we will build halls without windows. And air-conditioning is expensive [with more windows]."
So how does this fit with the Watch Tower's claim that it's a responsible carer of this planet?
Surely they are promoting an excessive use of the earth's resources??
Where is their "love of neighbor" in that?
How are they the "good citizens" that they have long boasted to be?

G'day Blondie:
I know what you mean! Seems to me that the "Society™" have a legacy of continually revealing something new each year; why, that was one of "the highlights" wasn't it? (Tongue in cheek)
That seemed to work so long as they possessed the writers/inventors who could concoct the stuff, but gradually they've been succeeded by 'company men' who have never had that experience; they have had a lifetime's experience of being receivers of whatever was churned out in the Watchtower and conventions. Now that they're in the 'hot seat' these men who lack the imagination that their forebears had are seemingly all at sea - their doctrinal changes seem to be decisions taken 'on the run' with little thought to how they 'fit' within the whole structure. e.g. this latest one about the selection of the 144,000 being a continuing process (so two classes are being gathered simultaeously??).
Cheers, Ozzie

On the Witnesses' official site is this piece about this year's District Conventions:
The 2007 “Follow the Christ!” District Conventions begin in the U.S.
Jehovah's Witnesses are hosting 287 conventions in 75 cities throughout the United States. The sessions promise something of vital interest to all who attend. Find the date and location of the "Follow the Christ!" convention nearest you.So what was the "something of vital interest"? Anyone know who's been?

Prob'ly an article telling the R&F how much they should appreciate the "happifying™" experience of having the "loving provisoon™" of such "solid food™" all in one package.
No doubt some quotations from suitable appreciative dubs for the change.
"Food at the right time™" = 15th of the month Watchtower.

Would there be a backlash if the Blood Ban was lifted?
by Gill inwould there be a backlash from current jws if the blood transfusion ban was lifted and made completely a conscience matter?.
i suspect, that only those who had lost a close relative would be bothered.
the others would just be relieved that they didn't have to worry about this traumatic issue anymore and they would carry on as ususal.. so, what is it, except for fear of legal action, that is stopping the ban being lifted?

but a witness told me that hardly anyone dies as plasma etc is avaliable
A witness would! They're so deluded about the risks involved that everything is downplayed. They're so deluded (confused?) about what pasrt of blood is OK and what does what that they'll come out with any sort of nonsense.
He should be asked how many died in his state in the past few years through not having transfusions.
