Congrats, ISP, I think?! Could it be a pyrrhic victory for any of us to be called 'Master' ? Can you think of all the negative connotations associated with that term ? e.g. master of none?
IMO the sooner we become Jedi the better!
Cheers,
Ozzie
not as quickly as hippikon, mind you!
or danielle, who would have done it a week - easy!
she did 100 posts in one day!

for the watchtower society doctrine has been a millstone because as a publishing organisation survival depends on writing and this inevitably means changing doctrines*.
otherwise there would have come a point where nobody would buy their books - end of story.
of course they could just publish reader's digest type stuff, but before long people would find better sources of general interest, i.e., the reader's digest.
Thirdsson,
Don't forget to include the 'Yes' and 'No' stamps. BTW did you include the 'Yes' and 'No' envelopes? And what about the oversized certificates of wealth?
Cheers,
Ozzie

G'day Philo,
There's much to support your musings. Interestingly, how often have we heard Public Talk speakers refer to the Awake! magazine as being like the Reader's Digest?
It seems that any organisation has to have something that clearly identifies it as being different, as its 'raison d'etre'. For the JWs it centres around the Borg itself. And so allegiance to the Borg is paramount. If it were simply a publisher of Christian material, it would be no different to other publishing houses like Baker House, Zondervan, etc. And so to the R&F JW anything published by the WTBTS is akin to holy scripture, it's 'revealed truth' etc. If it were simply publishing Christian aids, it might be harmless enough, but then who would obey the words from the Borg? So we will always have an authoritative Borg with us, so long as their is support, and that's a moot point, isn't it?
Cheers,
Ozzie

even when i was a dyed in the wool jw, there were a few things that never made any sense whatsoever to me.
like most dubs, i glossed over them, here's my top 3 doubts during my period of dubdom, doubts that were never resolved:.
"all scripture is inspired of god and beneficial for teaching".
G'day all,
Can I add one more to the list? This is the one I can truly say I've wondered about for many years, and still the Boys in Writing haven't 'twigged' to it, going by this latest example:
"The Bible points out the reason for today's falling standards. The last book of the Bible, Revelation, describes a war in heaven, the outcome of which has affected all humans down to this day. The apostle John wrote: "War broke out in heaven....So down the great dragon was hurled...etc [Rev 12:7-9] What was the IMMEDIATE effect of that war?...."Woe for the earth and for the sea, because the Devil has come down to you, having great anger, knowing he has a short period of time". - Rev. 12:12. "Woe for the earth" came when World War 1 BROKE OUT IN 1914 and brought to an end an era of standards very different from those of today..."(see Watchtower June 1, 2001 page 5)[Emphasis added]
My question is: How come WW1 broke out BEFORE Satan was cast from heaven? (WW1 commenced July/August 1914 whereas the Gentile Times ended October 1914)

Ozzie

i was driving past a disused kingdom hall last week, here in wsm.
it looked very out of place with its watchtower crennelations, like a mediaevel sort of castle, with a huge sign announcing that this was now the home of the british red cross.
however, we are now blessed with a new, quick-build kingdom hall on the outskirts of town.. but this is not the true story, this quick-build kingdom hall took 3 months to erect, unlike the publicity blurb handed out to our local newspaper which claimed that the work was done in 3 days.. being involved in the building trade, i knew that the local equipment hire company had been supplying the dubs with concrete mixers, diggers, back hoes and jcb's for fully 3 months before the build officially started.. all the ground work was done weeks beforehand, all the services laid on, the roof trusses were ready and waiting as was the curtain walling and window shutters.
G'day all,
There is a 'quickly built" KH in Sydney that has the rare distinction of being quickly built TWICE. The reason: the roof collapsed on #1, so some years later it was the subject of another quick build project.
Footnote: no dedication program was held for Hall #2

Younger Tom: I saw that! Tom will not be happy! You'll just have to make an extra comment at the meeting for your penance! (Or maybe going to the meeting is your penance!!!) ROAR, ROAR
G'day gang, been a bit crook lately - had the aussie dollar blues
Now that the weather has turned a little damp it seems the greatest time can be had with a bbq and a bottle of cab sav. You bring some too unc; OT - you can bring a tinnie or two. Same time, same place?
Prisca, don't bring any dollars, it'll be a "dollar-less" event.
OT could you e-mail me so's we can make a time. Ta.
Should we start a Hippikon Relief fund, do you think?
Cheers,
Ozzie (of the stuff the american dollar class)
hello, message board.. i've been a-lurkin here for a while.
i introduced myself to the old hourglass board right before it went down - didn't have much of a chance to say anything.. but i would like to express how much i appreciate all the contributions you all make to the discussions that go on here.
if you only knew how much your words and stories have been helping me to resolve my issues..... i guess that my hope is that i can, in some small way, relate my experiences and thoughts, and maybe that will also help someone else along the way.. once again, thank you for being here (& there).
G'day you with the hybrid name.
Do tell us, what are the origins of this special family name?
Anyhow, welcome to the home sweet home and we look forward to your non-hybrid posts!
Cheers,
ozzie
this is from the may km regarding district convention instruction.
it is posted for your amusement and comments....... concentrating for several hours at a time can be a challenge, what can help us to resist the tendency to drift mentality?
take advantage of the power of the eye.
G'day all,
A common thought expressed by the R&F is that it doesn't matter if you miss a point at the Dist Conv as it's coming out in a W/T article anyways.
Most go for the association, don't they?
Cheers,
Ozzie
