Aren't there about a bizzillion basketball players raised as dubs? Also about 20 years ago there was a Milwaukee b-ball player who quit playing because he got baptized and wanted to pioneer (his wife was a dub). I remember because I met Rick Majerus (sp?) and he asked me why the jws wouldn't let the guy play. Amazing because now it doesn't matter if you're a sports superstar, you don't have to quit. Life is so (bad word)-up.

edited to add--- George Gervin and his wife Joyce, they went to our SanAntonio KH. Although I'm not sure if George ever actually got baptized, but their kids did. Oh and some of the famous Metheany's , one was married to another dub friend when they divorced he got custody of their daughter.

One_, You're so right about Peck's life. I kind of like that too because in his book In Search of Stones, he discusses his infidelities and other troubles (misdeeds?). I was in therapy when I was leaving the WTS. My Psychiatrist was a great help to me. I only wish I could've continued, but he moved and the new guy just wasn't the old guy.

Actually, male menapause isn't about depression. My Sweetie (Nick) went into a creative frenzy, which cost way too much money, I keep telling him that a redhead and a hot sports car would've been cheaper. But I have to admit it was amazing to see his onemindedness, kind of like an absentminded professor. I ought to write a book about that and title it ... Empowered Old Guys, or something ...

Wow Hawaiian, i went to one link and got so involved , really, thank you for this information. I want to get the book Awakening of a Jehovahs Witness. I read the pages on Amazon.com from the book and can closely relate to the psychology of dub-material. I used to think that jws who complained about the brothers and sisters lacking love, or only showing love and attention to the unbaptized were just spiritually weak and immature. I had a damn jw haughty attitude. I actually dismissed the claim of only being kind to unbaptized studies. I saw the pain caused to children by the abuse of "spare the rod spoil the child". I remember parents w/ wooden spoons on their laps to swat their kids with during meetings. I hate myself for thinking that was correct and admirable.

my dad is going for a biopsy next friday.

the doctor told him that there is a slight chance that if they bugger up the surgery, he'll bleed to death.

Nos, This is a guy thing. Your upcoming marriage reminds Dad that he's getting older everyday and soon he'll die. The fact that he talks about bleeding to death is like a whimper for some attention and, yes, that strong word LOVE. So go ahead and have another last supper. If nothing else you'll never feel guilty. And someday when you find you do love your Dad and he's been dead for years, well you'll be glad you accomodated his insecurity.
