LDH, You are so sweet and your advice is 100% on the point! To answer you, yes I've done the food avoidance. The really amazing thing about that was that I developed a reaction to shrimp, I can't even be near shrimp being cooked because it sets off an angiodemic reaction --- yet when tested I don't have an allergy to shrimp WTF!!! I had never had this sensitivity before, but with chronic urticaria your body may actually develop some new strong immune responses you never had before.

Health-Chronic Urticaria(hives)
by Panda inwell, chronic urticaria gives me another sleepless night with itching like crazy.
i think it's called chronic pruritus(itching).
whatever, i'm ready to jump out a window --- wouldn't do much good because we have only one story ... but it might surprise the coyotes!.

Chloe, Oh man I wish I had better news for you. But your ER treatment is the usual for chronic urticaria or any urticaria , besides what they gave you:
a small shot of epinephrine and the prednisone for 5 days.
You could also get an epipen prescription. One for at home and one for your purse. Going to an allergist or dermatologist is usually the first stop. If you have ever noticed a sensitivity to anything in your environment it would be good to note it for the Doc because the testing can be very specific if you want it to be.
I didn't know this could be chronic
Me neither! And when they first told me in the hospital in China I just told them "No way. I don't get sick. This will pass." So yeah I acted like a jerk because no way was I going to have hives for years.
because this has happened before and the severeness of the swelling and the frequency are worsening.
Yeah, I know. Maybe check out some web info about this before you go to the doctor. It would be great if this turned out to be a food allergy!

Anewme, Your poor little pooch! Sounds like she had a severe reaction to those plants, and maybe the same for you. Allergies would be much easier for me to deal with, because there is usually something you can avoid and so not get hives. My urticaria is auto immune without a known catalyst (idiopathic).
I was treated in China w/ both traditional Chinese medicine and modern medicine. The doctors and nurses were fabulous; I really think it mattered to them that I was suffering and they couldn't make me better. When I got back to the USA I saw my PC doc and a dermatologist (he even biopsied the hives!). They both signed papers for me to be tested and treated in Denver at the National Jewish research hospital.
WOW that was a trip and a half. I already knew I didn't have any allergies but they turned me inside out with tests and guess what --- I have no allergies. This I later found out is not unusual for chronic urticaria. Also it doesn't get better it just gets worse.
I wish my Doc would let me take prednisone again because it was the only medication that made the hives go away. Whenever I end up in an ER they'll always give it too me just to get swelling down quickly. I get on such a pity party! BTW I am glad that you moved away from your original place of hives.

Lady Lee, Oh do I know what you are talking about! The foot itching can be the worst. I think sometimes knowing the feeling when it's coming on can bring on extra tension. Thank you so much for sharing your experience with me, Hugs panda

Overheard at Special Assembly Day
by under_believer inat our "special assembly day," they interviewed an elderly "sister" in her 70's.
she is the wife of a longtime circuit overseer who is of a similar age, but in very poor health.
a couple years ago he retired into our circuit and is being entirely supported by contributions from people in our circuit, living in one of those connected-to-the-kh apartment arrangements.

So what about all of those poor Jws who have no support in their old age? Who cannot afford healthcare? Or food or rent or utilities?
I think she is so darned SURE is because she knows on which side her bread is buttered; she's very sure of that. Her husband is apparently just slipping away fromlife. Sheesh I wonder what happens to her once he's gone?

My girls (The twins)
by MsMcDucket inthey are happily enjoying being witnesses.
they are young and beautiful.
when they came over today (to pick up a check), they look healthy (a bit too healthy) and happy.

MsMcDucket, IMO you are the only person who can decide what your actions with your children should be. What I think is that you have 2 extremely shrewd girls. They're smart enough to stay dubs AND go to college AND get support from the dubs because of their evil worldly Mom. But they obviously value time to see you and to the congregation they can just say "we had to pick up a check" perfect cover for them. Again I have to say that you have raised 2 smart kids. Congratulations!

Elsewhere, Don't do it! You'll lose valuable vacation days. Go visit other ExJWs. Go swimming. Take a second job to save money and go visit Little Toe. Be kind to yourself .

Extra training ... so you know that shooting babies is WRONG ?!?
by Simon inhow dumb and pathetic.. no extra training should be necessary for even slightly trained and disciplined soldiers.
i guess it is for some of the rabble that the us call "troops" though.. of course the real problem is not just those on the ground that have committed the latest attrocity.
it is the chain of command that tried to cover it up and all the way up to the president who sanctions bombing of civilian targets with nothing more than rumour for "intelligence".. from now on america, you are on your own.

Blame has to go where it belongs, 'To The Top'. Who thought that God had told him to invade Iraq?
So, ultimately it's god's fault. And further we should just blame religion ... which is, actually, fine with me.
Who is thinking about the possiblity of invading Iran?
Well apparently no one because after the last few days there will apparently be plenty of talking now.
Who started this damned war in the first place?
Saddam Hussein in Iraq. In Afghanistan, Osama bin fladen.
Haven't the Americans suffered enough
Apparently not because the Jihadists plan to annhilate ALL infidels; to destroy ALL of America; and finally to convert the people left alive or kill them too. There will be no ROE, no court of appeals, just slaughter and Mohammedism. Actually, Talibanism, so the oft quoted battle cry of "death to all Americans". And I just have to ask this question, even though it's been asked before ... would you have stopped Hitler or Stalin if you'd had the chance? Look how long it took the US to get into WW2 ... 6 million civilians killed because of their religion. -

Do you group think or think for yourself?
by free2beme inas a witness, i was very prone to follow the group of thinking that was in the kingdom hall and not speak out for myself.
i am sure a lot of us would agree, this is the general pattern of most good little witnesses.
yet, in my post-witness life experience, i have learned this is about as common a thing in life, as there could be.
-
Panda
Are you saying that group think is a bad thing? Because it seems to work well for lawmakers and wolves; and any other carnivores who hunt intandem. Do I want to think like other people? Well maybe some people, especially if they think like me. C'mon Panda hugs all around...

Awake only published once a month but still pitifully poor!
by eyeslice inlooking through the latest copy of the awake that i got from my wife who has just got back from the meeting.
what strikes me is that although the awake is now only published monthly it is still the same old tired format.
'watching the world' still has the same pathetic cartoons, and the style and tone of the articles are just the same.

Why should they waste time and money to change a magazine that has a guaranteed captive market?
Because the captive market no longer supports bi-monthly Awake publication. Pretty soon the captive market won't be able to support any Awakes at all. The WTS should've started doing what the LDS did. That is to promote education and promote getting rich. Afterall they still were able to maintain cult status and make money.
