Is Mankind Born Evil....or Good?
by Farkel inmany ancients including confucious and lao tzu took opposing views about this subject and their arguments are fascinating to read.
their arguments are nearly 2,500 years old.
the greeks also lively debated this question.. of course, as dubs (and in fact, in most christian faiths) we were taught that man was born inherently evil, and the quest is to overcome that and work towards the good.

This is so interesting and everyone seems to have really been thinking about the subject. As dubs we believed good was following god and evil followed satan. But when a person is born I'd say culturally they are tabula rasa. That does not include though the most important instinct which is to survive. As infants we demand to be fed when we're hungry. We demand to be made comfortable. And if the foods not right we puke. Our cries as infants are meant to attract Mom to care for us. So survival isn't evil or good in the devil/god sense. Fortunately for us we did our best to get the food and attention we needed to be safe enough to grow up and provide for ourselves.
But then there are those who do not develope a conscience. They have no fellow feeling. I think that their survival techniques did not work out so well, so that from infancy they were damaged goods. So does that make them evil? I don't think so. They have another way to survive albeit often violent. I'm thinking about the Ted Bundy's or Saddam Hussein's of the world. Violence against humans is all about empowering themselves. One thing for sure that without the proper nurture our natures go seriously awry.
But then we get into the good/bad of the demented actions. And that begs us to ask, what would be the effect on the torture/murder victims. Definitely bad right? IMO giving someone the handle of Evil-doer is setting them on some supernatural level. Like evil is too hard to overcome. And it is ,if you plan to rehabilitate the BundyHussein, but if you just kill him then that supra evil is easily overcome.
Then the next question --- well you know...

Could Science Disprove Sectarianism?
by metatron inreligious claims are commonly unverifiable.
everybody and anybody can claim that they : 1) are god's true people.
and 2) have god's exclusive favor.. however, various scientists around the world are testing the idea that prayer can heal.

Nilfun, Maybe the warmth you felt came from the sincerity of the praying nun? I have felt tremendous benefit from the loving touch of another human being. So whether prayer or simple touch the effect of being loved is powerful.

Bliss, How awful to get that letter from a
fiendfriend. It's always Satan laughing at you so you must stick close to the borg. What hurts about a letter like this is you really think your friends love you but they are so drugged by the opiates from WTS that they just refuse to let go of the pipe. How horrible for you and you family. Especially your child. What is wrong with these people who show no love for the children. I hate that religion.Panda

Meetup
by alfie injust wanted to share with you the results of our monthly get together here in vancouver, b.c.
five of us showed up which was down from last month, but the reasons for those unable to make it today were family responsibilities and such, so the desire to meet is still strong.
we had a great time yakking and laughing and just generally having a marvelous time.

Alfie, Thank you for your meetup summary! I would love to have a meet up near me. Unfortunately the closest one would be in SA which is about 2 hrs away. I actually did sign up to go twice but it fell through. I know some people who have faded and are afraid to go to a meetup and be recognised by a troll. I don't really know how to answer them? Any ideas?

Oh these are terrific! The only one I'd heard before was the one about the apostles meeting in one accord. I heard that one at pioneer school, and I agree that these would've made pioneering easier.

WATCHTOWER IS DUMBING DOWN
by integ infrom what i've noticed lately, the wts seems to be explaining everything away with a new approach; that of dumbing everything down to just a couple of key points in their everchanging, contradictory, edicts and doctrine.
they seem to be avoiding 'deeper' scriptural interpretations that invariably get them into trouble with people who actually don't take everything the fds say as absolute truth, and instead are feeding the rank and file and the "doubters" that dare question the changing doctrine, with a couple of what they feel are key "truths".. 1) who else is using god's name today?
2) who else are doing "god's work" of preaching the good news of the kingdom?.
-

Sometimes don't you just feel like Pontius Pilate when he posed his rehtorical question, "What is truth." If you ask a dub they'll say the Bible is truth. But then you ask about the stories and "well you've got to trust in god!" Its so sad.
In this part of Texas there are many Spanish speaking Pentacostal churches who use the name Jehovah. And the big church of Rev.Hagee (cornerstone?) also uses Jehovah. Plenty Jehovahs all around.

Update on the JW Coworker
by berylblue injames did not show up today.
so the seat next to me in my pod remained vacant.. .
in his absence, my pod members (some of whom are new to what i call the "pity pod") trashed him.

Rosemarie, When the guy comes back to work bait him. Tell him you heard he's a JW and you believe Jws are a cult. And in Illinois we had some older brothers who still claimed that inter-racial marriage was wrong, because it depended on the conscience of the congregation. Now we're talking about 15 years ago so maybe those old guys have changed their minds? NOT. It's the same with so much stuff. I also know a family in Wis. who still believe organ transplants are cannibalism. No kidding!

I need advice quick...and a hug.
by dmouse ini'm in a bit of a state at the moment, my wife has just left me about 30 mins ago and took the kids...i don't know where.... ok, some of you long-timers may remember the problems i had with my son ben, who decided that the jw religion wasn't for him about a year ago.
i supported him as best i could through that and he's developed into a fine young man with a more healthy spiritual attitude, investigationg a number of christian churches in the area and finally settled on church of england, which he really likes now.. although no longer a christian myself i have no objection to them pursuing whatever religious path they choose (obviously within reason).
that has been the case with all of my children: ben, 15, charlotte, 14 and chloe, 12. i have never attempted to stop my wife taking them to the meetings although i have voiced to them privately my concerns about the religion.

Dean, I am relieved you're getting counsel and representation. Please remember to give the lawyer and counselor the WTS child custody brochure. They don't know how underhanded the WTS legal is and the lies they'll tell.
