I'm a registered voter now

hubby and i were at trader joe's the other day and a guy asked us to sign his petition.

after we signed he asked if we were registered voters.

we said no and he asked if we'd like to be.

How great I felt to get my voters registration card! I thought HEY this is freedom. Now you will be able to decide more than the lesser of 2 evils (thats the way JWs taught us about the world). There are many issues which you may become more involved in like school board agenda, local police, mayor, council persons, etc., because you now have a voice.

And when anyone asks you, if you happen to complain about an election outcome, well, did you vote? You can say yes. Not voting is having no voice by choice.

And the best thing is that functioning as a part of democracy, you are not claiming to have the knowledge that leads to eternal anything, you are standing up not only for your self but olthers too.

Many non-voters have no idea how much can be changed at the local level by local voters. And really we can only change the world one person at a time, so a local vote may send some kid to college through a local scholarship. I live in a very small town and there are several local scholarship programs. But you have to want to participate, and voting is the way to go. Best Wishes to You! Panda

Are you tired of the whole atheist/believer debate?

i'm usually the first one to stir this particular pot but it get's so frustrating to keep coming up against the same old arguments.

the phrase "banging your head against a brick wall" springs to mind.

how many times have believers argued for a designer but refused to answer the obvious question of the designer's origin?.

Hmmm... so we aren't debating god/no god, but we're throwing all sorts of mayhem-ish facts/ not facts around. Ok ... debate is good. Without debate we historically wouldn't have science and democracy.(Of course that had to be wrestled from the firm grip of religion)

For the sake of adding to this I need to say that science does not claim that order has come from chaos. In fact the exact opposite is true. Our universe is chaos. Nothing, not even the speed of light is constant over the millions of years. Chaos is why humans evolved and dinosaurs no longer rule. Chaos is why we live on this planet. Out of chaos come new circumstances, new bases for new phylla and species to (YES I'm going to say it) evolve. The facts are there.

Just because someone denies the facts doesn't mean those facts don't exist. That would be denial and sometimes denial's all a person can do when attempting to rationalise their belief system with science. The two don't even belong in the same sentence. Religious belief is in no danger from science as long as it stays away from the science proves something- something about religion. If you have a belief system, realise it's just that, belief. If you care to learn about the universe and dabble in science --- no problem --- only, leave your book of mythology at home.

Anger!!!!

yesterday, when i was driving through holland, michigan, i was a little lost looking for the human resources office.

i was heading down a busy divided four lane street unfamiliar, when i looked up and there it was, a kingdom hall in all it's radiant three day quick-build glory.

and for the first time, rather than just the usual cringe, i felt angry!.

FHN Oh that your words would come true. However, with the state of education in the US I'm afraid that people will continue to be led down the "good snews" path. We all remember how easily we were boiled into the WTS soup. Remember that supposed encouragement "to make sure of all things hold fast to what is fine" was just a sound byte. Do you ever recall (after baptism) being encouraged to critically think about anything WTS leaders wrote? The sign on the KH should be No Thinking Allowed (or even aloud). What if someone like Blondie ever actually offered info they had researched? Can you say "Elders approach sister B after meeting" 3x's fast?

Does anyone learn critical thinking anymore? Sheesh, and if I may quote the great Dr.Seuss,

Think left and think right and think low and think high. Oh the thinks you can think up if only you try!

How do you handle extremely rude people in public?

i'm so upset by two vicious women who came to my work today.

i was helping a man in my line and they tried to cut in front.

i politely explained that as soon as i finished with my customer, i would help them.

Might this be a northern thing? I mean I used to live in a few northern states and rudeness seemed natural for everyone... real get in your face people. Then I moved to Texas and was told in a polite way "them's fightin' words" Ever since I heard that I had to think "ok, is this worth being considered fighting words or do I want to fight over this?" I'll admit that I love scrappin'; only it's usually not worth it ; especially now when I come from a state where people apologise for accidently pushing and then don't do it again... Where people hold doors open for women and old folks ; the recipients of this treatment saying THANK YOU and the giver saying Your Welcome or even better MY PLEASURE.

Wow think of that taking pleasure in providing an open door. Amazing. I've lived and worked in Wisconsin and Illinois so I know rude.
