without christ none can stand before a holy god, christ payed our fime so we can be righteous before our righteous god.

So what good has it really done the people of this earth the last 2,000 years? Did the check just not clear, or is there an unstated principal that says the earth is just a proving ground to see if you're worthy of being permitted to bow down to god for all eternity in heaven?

Ummm another kick in the ass for not picking up your torture stake and doing more (slaving for Christ) into all eternity. With Christianty there will never be freedom to do what you want to do and independence. Just endless duty and obligation and worship to god to be thankful that you were a member of the lucky sperm club (gods grace of existence).

@mrsjones5 - thanks for sharing that. I guess while we wait for scientific breakthoughs in genetic therepy as a more permanant solution. Perhaps putting these these kids savant intelligence to use in pursuit of scientific goals (a respected station in life) would help them not feel like less of a human than their peers. Perhaps scientific research companies can put together a program to harness this potential. There could be fast track for these types of individuals to get into these positions. Government could fund this research in part to ensure that it's not dog eat dog typical corporate BS.

I have to say if the mom was trying to have her son committed, and at the same time took him to the shooting range and gave him access to her guns she has to be one of the worst parents I've ever known of. In light of this I do stand by my earlier point that better parenting is part of the solution.

been thinking about this for a while now.

in the absence of strong political leadership to enact stricter gun regulation it is clear that the people must excercise their 2a rights and bear arms.. think about the facts.. 9000 firearm homicides a year in the usa.

only 600 of those were by us - the good guys - law enforcement + justifiable action by joe sixpack.

If this is true, fear of being labeled crazy does have tragic results as this case illustrates. Hopefully soon genenic therepy will be an option on the table to help people with these mental disorders like asbergers to integrate better into society.

I don’t take this discussion as just another anti-gun rant session.

I don't either, but the subject is about how to prevent/mitigate these types of massacres in the future (violations of others freedom) and protect our children, not about preventing people from killing themselves slowly (e.g. drinking, smoking etc.).

@Simon - This definitely puts a nail in the argument that the problem is illegal guns:

It would be interesting to see this data for all incarcerated inmates too, not just the ones in federal pens. Federal pens are a small chunk of the total thugs out there (the worst of the worst) as I understand it.

Should we advocate banning ultra-high proof alcohol?

I think this is a false analogy, alcohol is a pleasure vice and generally kills slowly, fast if used without moderation. To me this is also an issue of freedom. Some whacko has once again violated others freedom to live in the worst way possible, alchohol does not do that. To protect basic freedom (the right to live), there needs to be some changes to make it harder for whackos to get their hands on firearms and other implements of mass destruction, fertilizer, dynamite etc. The families who have been effected are owed this as a gesture of good faith at a minimum IMHO. I think the solution goes much deeper though, as I mentioned at the outset.
