I didn't leave "the truth" (please stop calling it that), I left a mind controlling cult, and Halloween and Christmas are opportunities for good family bonding and fun. Does it make much sense to you, that your god lets babies die of starvation, but he is so petty as to hold what holidays you celebrate with your family eternally against you?

by Stand for Pure Worship ini ask this respectfully, and do so after watching a favorite show of mine's season opener which had a new years storyline.
hollywood tends to make movies and television show episodes centered around holiday themes appear warm and blissful.
while i'm thankful to have never participated in such holidays, i can't deny my curiosity about ex-jws that do celebrate.

Genital Mutilation - Is anyone watching this?

in the uk in black and asian communities female genital mutilation(fgm) or destruction of the clitoris and the labia of young girls is practised.
this horror is common in the uk, it is illegal and has been for 28 years but there has not been one prosecution.. this got me thinking.

when the Bible speaks of faith, it refers to acting without any other reason to justify the action, aside from what the believer HOPES is true, being completely DEVOID of discernable or detectable evidence. Faith is what drives JWs to knock on doors, even die by refusing blood, as they're trusting that they'll be rewarded with eternal life spent enjoying marathon panda-petting sessions. Faith is no joke: people are willing to DIE in the name of faith (confusing their obstinance and closed-minded commitment to dogmatic beliefs with it).
It's also what causes muslim fundies to blow themselves and other 'infidels' up with them.

Imagine the awkwardness and humiliation of this... being a grown man and undergoing a circumcision by a 90 year old man. This is so weird!!! This account never set well with me when I was JW. Why didn't god just create the way he wanted it to be to being with. The god of the bible is a sick wierdo.

when i discover gaps in science, it's easy for me, as a temporary measure to fill in the gaps with god.
i do this until i have learnt something new.. what about you?

Both were driven by belief in God.
This is speculation. Are you arguing they would not have been driven to figure out these great mysteries, without god in the equation? I suspect it would have made no difference in their being driven in the pursuit of understanding these puzzles.

There are many amazing, beautiful and complex things in nature, and in the universe, that we still don't understand, and maybe never will. One thing is clear though, the universe is not a friendly place, the earth has had past extinction events, and nature is full of violence and contradictions. For me, all of the random order just does not track with a benevolent designer. Until I see evidence for such a supreme being, I won't accept that premise. It is scary (and also a little exciting) to realize that we are on our own, and thats why we have to make this life count. Good luck on your journey though.
