Name your favourite kingdom melody?

i used to hate the kingdom melodies, but maybe i did like one or two i think one was called "apostates on the march" @ i feel so human

Hilarious lyrics set the tone for this one, and perfectly convey the witnesses ideology of "we are good, the world is evil." I have to fight back laughter whenever I hear this. But seriously, this song used to scare me when I was little. Some of the lyrics sound like a Metallica song.

david lettermen just crushed the jws again in tonights monolog.

he said "are you tiered of all the religious sex scandals, now the jahovahs witnesses have a sex scandal, they group you then they leave you a pamphlet.then they went to court today but no one answered the door".

What was interesting is that Serena Williams (a witness) was on the show that night.

She didn't say anything during her interview but it could have been an awkward chat if she had brought the joke up.

i've spent a lot of time on allmusic.com and it amazes me how much nirvana is mentioned when the reviewers rate other albums.

so its a no brainer that nirvana's work should probably have a place in every rock collection, but what are some other albums every rock fan should listen to if not own.

Dissociated family excluded from funeral services

apparently, disassociated relatives are not allowed to be in the procession lines at kingdom hall services.

they can attend but they cannot be with their relatives to receive condolenses.

this happened recently to someone whose aunt had passed away.

All of your replies have been very interesting. Nic, I am with you, and I would do as I wished in that situation regardless of what the elder's think. I may have used the wrong words when I said "allowed." I don't think the elders would have physically stopped this person from being with her family (I believe that is illegal).

Plmkrzy: I was not at the service, but I do trust the person who told me. I have not seen this happen either, but apparently some elders are more picky about the "rules" than others and choose to enforce this nonsense. They are inconsistent though. At a previous service at the same hall, a disfellowshipped person whose son had passed away was with his family and received condolenses and no one said anything. This is why this person thought there wouldn't be a problem. And couldn't they have called this woman to let her know that they didn't want her in the service line?

For me personally, it just adds more fuel to the fire.

This happened recently to someone whose aunt had passed away. She was told by an elder that "it was not appropriate." He had consulted with the society and they said that anyone dissaciated should not be in the line because it could make some people uncomfortable.

Doesn't this strike you as another silly, trivial, and unnecessary extension of the shunning policy? Yes, this woman could have ignored the elder and joined her family, but she was so offended that she ended up leaving. How sad. Has anyone had similar experiences?

SPIDERMAN..SPIDERMAN..DOES WHAT EVER A SPIDER CAN

ok even at my old age[8>] i still like the super hero action flicks.. the better ones anyway.

the first superman, the first batman and even some of the sequels to bat man were not bad.. how ever this week-end it seemed like everyone went to see spiderman all at once so i didn't go yet.. they just gave the stats on the news.. spiderman grossed over $$$114,000,000.00 so far and still counting.. did anyone go see it this week-end????.

I just saw it today. I thought it was excellent, right up there with Batman (1989) and Superman 2 as my favorite comic hero movies. It was nice to see the Macho Man Randy Savage again; i grew up watching him in the WWF. So Dr. Octopus will be in the second one? I can't wait. It would be cool to see Venom too, but he isn't as well known to old-school fans because he debuted in the 1990's.

If you were wrong about the truth, what else?

what effect has having a whole section of your life proved to be a falsehood had on you?.

anybody that has been a witness will understand the time, effort, comitment and money that it took to be a member.

the way it dominated our lives, affected every decision we made and shaped our future.. some have left and turned to other faiths and some (like myself) have lost all religious faith (and i make no appology for that).

I was born into the organization.

It wasn't until I was old enough to really think about the repetitive material I was listening to when I realized the illogical crap I was being force-fed.

I realized what it was doing to my brain, and now I see things for how they really are. I've been trying to find my own path for the last few years.

I really feel for those who have spent decades going to meetings, out in service, etc. For some it probably would have been better to go with the old "ignorance is bliss" instead of finding out what the truth is really about. It's sort of like Neo in the Matrix finding out that the world he knew was just a computer simulation.

Thoughts about Depression and Anxiety

this is mostly directed to others that were born/raised in the cult.

more specifically those raised in the cult who also suffered from severe depression and/or social anxiety disorder or any other mental illness (other than the normal probs that come with being in the borg).

sometimes i wonder if its just me that doesnt feel like a person now.

Flower I can relate to your feelings and to those who have responded. I had one really good "worldly" friend growing up (along with JW friends who I wasn't as close with) until I was 10 or 11 years old and when he moved that was pretty much it. I hardly had any friends after that because I was and still am shy naturally and being a Witness just made it worse. I thought that only going to occasional meetings and not believing in any of it would solve my social problems or at least help them but it hasn't really. I think it is just ingrained in me to be shy and to believe that worldly people just will not accept me, and Witnesses will only be friendly if I go to meetings and agree with all the teachings. Having a cool older brother has helped because he agrees with me that most of the JW stuff is BS. But still growing up a JW and realizing that I missed out on so much enjoyment, especially in school, has made me a very bitter and angry person, and often difficult to talk to.

I think the key is really just being selfish and doing what you want to do. If other people don't like it, just tell them you need to do things for yourself right now and find people that support you and don't judge you.
