I remember asking someone about this along time ago and was told recycled paper rips more easily in the presses and they can't run them at the higher speeds.
I'm not sure if that is true or not but that is what i remember being told.

maybe it's just my observation, but wts magazines and books are not printed on re-cycled paper.
can this be proven to be true?
do any ex-bethelite know this for a fact?

g'day folks, how's the weekend going?
not too strenuous i hope.
but just in case you're at a 'loose end', here's something to give you a little 'light relief'.
It was explained at the time the donation arrangement was introduced that the "free literature" was for simplicity so we would not have to collect tax on contributions. Of course, they hated the words "free literature" because at the time, many thought now would be a good time to complete their "theocratic libraries" and ordered everything they could get their hands on.
This led to two different groups of persons, those who would agonize for hours about how much a publication was worth and those who just took them without putting anything in the box or very little. Literature servants made mental notes and made remarks about people who didn't pay for what they took.
It seemed awkward to ask for a donation so many (or maybe most) just left the literature with people and never brought it up unless they asked how much it was.
This change I think was due to a Jimmy Swaggart lawsuit, but seemed to be implemented very suddenly in Canada. It was accepted with mixed feelings at first and there were repeated demonstrations emphasizing how to ask for a donation, but I think as time went on most seemed to prefer this new way.

Yeah, this whole article is about downplaying their mistakes and imperfections and still requiring unquestioning loyalty to their members who are starting to ask questions.
Of course while they admit they are imperfect, nowhere will you see an acknowledgement of the specific mistakes they have made. No apologies for mishandling abuse cases, no apologies for the UN involvement etc.
It's nice at the end of the article how they tell the members how happy they are to be led by them and their wonderful elders... I can picture a thinking JW (rare i know) scratching his head thinking "wait a minute here..."

well, here are my thoughts on the subject.
we sit here and bash the wbts for having gender separation, but what about us apostates?
do the women apostates carry as much weight as the men, and why do you say so?
I think alot of JW men were lazy slackers and if it wasn't for women in the Organization pushing them or patching up their mistakes most of these men would have been nothing. While the power was in the hands of the men, it was the "sisters" that did the real work in the religion, which was the public ministry.
I am still a lazy slacker and I think it is the women in the exJW movement that are more often the drive and the passion and the emotion. I think they are the ones that often do the real "work", the ones that when it comes down to it are not afraid to get their "hands dirty".
Ones like "Out'n Free" who boldly posted Silentlambs posters outside a convention while being threatened or ones like "Dungbeetle" and "Skally" who are so persistant like a police dog that won't let a criminal escape it's grasp.
I don't know if this is a fair or accurate assessment and if it is, I don't know if this is how things really should be. But I'm sure we all would agree that every single person has contributed something valuable to this whole "cause" and I don't think gender has anything to do with whether someone is more important or not in exJW circles.

LOL, kind of like when we used to doodle during the WT study. When you are bored JWs turn to graffitti in the publications..
The pic of Moses or Korah or whoever it is a few posts up could look like a DJ if you put a couple of turntables in front of him...lol

I find paragraphs 8-12 on Korah interesting because they seem to indicate valid reasons why he may have justified his own actions in opposing Moses' authority but why he was wrong to have done so.
This seems to be saying that people such as Bill Bowen or Barb Anderson that are aware of errors committed by this organization and who feel they have just cause in creating a division over these matters are wrong not to "wait on Jehovah" and respect his "channel".
I think the language used in these paragraphs is a warning to others who might get the same idea - even if they have legitimate complaints. The artical is also creating a paranoia of persons who bring up legitimate complaints so that these are automatically assumed to be "causing divisions".
The Society knows not all is well in the 'spiritual paradise' but this artical in typical WT arrogance puts anyone disagreeing with them in a bad light while they refuse to acknowledge their own abuse of authority and excuse the sins they have committed over the years.

this morning we published a very moving story written by a jehovah's witness whose 15-year-old son died supporting the watchtower's society blood policy.
to the best of my knowledge, this is the first time a jw parent has gathered up the courage to face down this monstrous policy after losing their child.
this is a very special person indeed and when we finally gather enough of these folks together and set them in front of the right attorney, the wts will be in for some serious litigation.. at present mary is in the midst of divorce from her jw husband and nailing down a custody agreement, so the identity of her and her son must remain anonymous.
It is sad that the WT has withheld important information that JW parents need to make these life-or-death decisions. To say these choices are the "personal decision" of each member is not fair when many members have requested clarification on their stance and are basically told to shut up and go away ("wait on Jehovah")(see Jensen letters)
The Society has not provided essential needed information, has supplied misleading information and has effectively prevented most Witnesses from reading balanced viewpoints on the matter to make an informed choice. This combined with the threat of automatic disassociation have created a generation of JWs that are willing to die believing a policy that it's creators are no longer sure of.
It is amazing how a little accurate information can change a parent from one that is fighting doctors and governments on the side of the WT to let their child die to one that recognizes that these institutions only were interested in what was best for the child.

theocratic ministry school (tms) pet peeve of mine is found below.
please feel free to add any that you find as annoying and hypocritical as mine.... last night, brother gramaton* delivered the # 2 talk (bible reading).
he received all of this "wonderful, upbuilding" counsel from brother hank*, the school overseer.
I have noticed alot of sisters (and alot of elder's wives) have withdrawn from the school because it is too stressful for them. I don't think alot of people cared for public counsel.
I think timing is important for meetings. Nothing worse than parts going overtime. But unfortunately if you hold more rank in this organization, the less likely you are to be called on it and the more likely you are to go over by several minutes. I think going overtime is the height of disrespect to your audience.
I think the worst parts for going overtime were the concluding talks at conventions and those damn long prayers as well as the final talk of the service meeting.

i was reading jjrizo's thread about elders who take advantage of the kh, and i had a memory i'd like to share.
all my life growing up i had heard about how "jehovah takes care of those who put kingdom interests first.
" and all of those experiences on the platform about getting an envelope "with the exact rent amount due the day before we were to be evicted" and so on.
I pioneered and there were times I wished there was more support and then there were times when people expressed gratitude and were kind and sometimes these are the times that are often more easily forgotten.
I would like to think idealy that if one pioneered for the right reasons it would not matter what "blessings" in a material way were offered as "gratitude". I do think most of us like to be appreciated and it was easy to feel "down" if you felt your efforts were not really appreciated in the congregation because the public certainly didn't appreciate them.
All in all, for the amount of time the Society promotes pioneering and other full time service, it seems they tend to abandon you once you sign up for it and next to no one is prepared for the harsh long-term realities of it.
It also has to be admitted that many pioneers (and bethelites, COs etc) can be rather self-righteous and might do things out of a wrong motive or are lazy or whatever, and this gives many of the R&F publishers a bad impression.
Much depends on from what perspective you are viewing the situation from, what motivated you to be a pioneer and what the local perception of pioneers was. I don't think the feelings expressed are "right or wrong" but just human nature playing out in the congregations. The Society plays up how much better and how different we all were as JWs, but the reality is we were all human like everyone else.
