Volunteer Work is Never Encouraged

i always find it so annoying whenever there's a wt study on the good samaritan.

no one at the hall ever suggests that the idea behind it, is that we should be helping our "enemies" in a charitable way, such as feeding them, clothing them, helping them out in a physcial way.....nope they always turn it around to where it only means we should be preaching to our enemies, cause lord only knows, actually helping someone out in a charitable way means less than nothing in the organization.. anyhoo, the last time we had an article on that (couple of years ago), i specifically put up my hand and said "this is not talking about preaching to our enemies.

the samaritan did not preach to the jew nor vise versa.

Not only do Witnesses generally not engage or contribute to charitable works, many actually think that it is wrong to do so. Paranoia over contributing to "Christendom's organizations", fraudulant charities or otherwise wasting valuable time and finances that could be spent on the preaching work - the only "real and lasting solution to mankind's problems" - prevents most from having any involvement with charitable organization. This gives many JWs who are cheap legitamate sounding excuses.

This negative thinking has been heavily influenced by the WT and you will note this if you do a search for "charities" in their publications. I think the WT realizes both time spent in preaching and funds donated to them would decrease if they gave the thumbs up to charities.

I have a feeling their position on this will change in an effort to clean up their public image, but for the moment the state of this huge "charitable" organization is absolutely pathetic.

I can't say I'm exactly "pro-American" but I don't think any of us here who could be labelled "anti" dislike anyone just because they are American. I hope that the rough waters here of late are just a small part of the reason you leave and that you are just moving on to bigger and better things.

I have a feeling you will find this place difficult to avoid just as I think you will have a hard time biting your tongue and not replying to that which interests you . Please check in often. Good luck.

Cygnus is in bad shape

just so i don't miss anybody who is interested.... my results from the ekg and the echogram showed a severe leak in a heart valve.

i am going for an angiogram on the 15th but the cardiologist says the liklihood is great that i will need open heart surgery.

rare for a 30 year old but if necessary, it is necessary.. no word yet on the results of the blood work for liver enzymes and hepatitis.

It is a shame that she had to undergo all of this fighting in addition to trying to fight cancer. At this point with odds of survival so low, I agree with the courts to let her die in peace.

This "feeling violated" is directly due to WT doctrine and their influence and probably only a few years from now only the old-school Witnesses will feel this way. Few Witnesses these days feel they are "canibals" if they need an organ transplant. Strange how people in WT land will fight to the death in support of WT policy and then feel okay about accepting what was once forbidden when WT leaders decide to change their minds.

Ivolvement with the WT absolutely destroyed this family and I believe greatly reduced her chances of survival or at least deprived her of a significant measure of peace in her final months. I feel very bad for the parents, as no parent should have to see their child die. If the mother ever comes around and sees the light, what a mixed up day that will be for her.

I hope the Canadian press will do a documentary on what happened here and expose what the WT is hiding from people.

The Edgefest lineup was weak this year and was weak last year too. Bands like Nickelback and Default are hardly headliners and Cake was about the only thing on the bill that would have made it half worthwhile. You get tired of CFNY always labelling it the best line up ever when they get worse and worse and keep serving washed up leftovers. I think it peaked about 4 years ago when Perfect Circle, Sloan, Trebel Charger, FooFighters, Tea Party etc played and the weather was perfect that day.

I spent the weekend in cottage country fishing then made it back Monday afternoon in the stinking heatwave. Neighbours gave me and friends a surprise spur of the moment invite to dinner where they and their families were celebrating 2 of their children's birthdays. It was a nice evening of eating/drinking and smoking cigars and we lit off some fireworks for the kids. Another good call this year not to have spent it at Molson Park

The real message imo is not what is contained in the letter but that there exists a global community outside the WT that has taken a principled stand against it. While diverse in belief and thought, there is a general unity against the WT and an almost universal understanding in this community of the WT's corruption.

For all I care people could have been mailing empty envelopes, because as long as these letters are recognized to have originated from a united source in opposition against the WT's corruption as part of a global effort, it would be difficult to label this effort as a failure.

I think many elders recognize the present situation within the organization is less than ideal and many harbour private concerns that are only discussed in quiet isolated conversations. For these ones to get some sort of confirmation that there may be greater numbers sharing their concerns is a validation that their concerns are legitimate. Hopefully this may lead to many of these ones taking positive action in greater numbers.

As for this religion's leaders, I don't believe they ever trusted their members or their elders and know a significant number would read things they are instructed not to. They know they are being exposed and in their desperation to hide their crimes they reveal their own guilt. Efforts such as this that completely circumvent their "authority" and go right to the elders/r&f are a humiliating blow to the arrogance of the men who think they are in charge.

CANADA DAY vs. INDEPENDENCE DAY!

i was coming home this evening from some ex-witness friends of mine (after part-y-ing), and i had the windows on my car down, playing one of elvis' tapes..........i was stopped at the stop light and i noticed several people sitting on the street giving me dirty looks and i couldn't figure out why at first.......then it dawned on me: they were waiting to see the canada day parade and i was playing "dixie" on my car cd.........(hehehehehehehehe........) i guess not a smart thing to do........ the parade sucked dead rocks and i was just wondering if it was only in my locale, or if other canadians also experienced a crap-o-rama parade.........seeing as this is the first july 4th party since 9-11, i assume that americans will be going all-out in their display of patriotism (i can't blame em) and i wanted to see what others had to say about their country's celebration.......hell up here, all the stores, malls, everything closes up like a ghost town - nothing's open on canada day............

I would have to agree with Mimmily's comments.

Yes it does suck sometimes when stores are closed on Canada Day and other long weekends, but if everyone still had to work on holidays we would not have them. Tip: Buy enough beer the day before so you don't run out on the holidays

But I think you can appreciate that while I applaud the over-all concept, it would be nice to put a "face" to the "channel" from which these things originate.

Obviously those who mailed out these letters represent "The Worldwide Christian Community" and as representatives should they not understand what or who constitutes this group?

I am not looking for names and detailed specifics or such if it would compromise privacy. A public comment on this would be appreciated since it likely reflects heavily on many in this community but if a confidential private reply is preferred for a good reason, that would also be acceptable. Thanks.

It would be nice to know who constitutes the "The Worldwide
Christian Community". Since many who participated in this effort are not "Christian" but supported the over-all concept of the project and the impression that it leaves with Witness leaders, it would be nice to know exactly what or who is "The Worldwide Christian Community". Thanks.

This is the difficult catch 22 the ex-JW community finds itself in. We need lawsuits to back up the claims made in the media but fail to support these lawsuits financially because we have become too jaded by our past.

I don't know what the ultimate solution will be, but this predicament seems to favour the WT and allows them to perpetuate their crimes. Ultimately I think they will die a slow and painful death and our lack of organization and our failure to put our money where our mouth is will prevent us from gaining some serious and decisive victories.

I think the battle will be fought and won in the media where the required proofs are lesser and I think the tedious one on one efforts combined with their own internal apathy, frustration and disillusion are what will destroy them.
