  I would say most JWs presently were born into the religion. Perhaps of those that converted most might have been Roman Catholic and that might be a sure bet in Mexico and Italy. But I don't know how one would obtain solid statistics to make such a claim.

  Interesting thread

  I believe most persons who maintain a measure of thought will at some point leave the WT or will suffer a life of mental and emotional struggle within themselves. At some point, I think what appeared to be insignificant comments at the time surface and are appreciated for what they truly were.

  These days I realize many cannot be helped until they are ready so it is pointless to spend my time arguing with them. I can only leave them with something simple and cryptic that I hope that maybe years from now they will look back and realize what I was trying to do and say but could not.

  The WTS Two 'Credible' Witness Policy.......

  below is an excerpt from the branch letter to all congregations.. 'thus, although they investigate every allegation, the elders in not authorized by the scriptures to take congregational action unless there is a confession or there are two credible witnesses'.

  it reaffirms the two witness policy.no surprise there...... but why does it say 'credible'?

  I see no problem with the use of the word "credible" to describe acceptable Witnesses. But I do think the WT should get out of this whole situation and start referring all matters beyond things "spiritual" to professional third parties.

  Elders at most are only qualified to read scriptures, provide articles to read and pray - things which might be considered of limited or no value unless combined with some sort of professional assistance.

  The problem in this organization is that it severely lacks its own professionals to offer input during times such as these, so you have old and uneducated and sheltered men taking shots in the dark. Since the professional community generally views JWs as a bunch of nuts, the WT finds it hard to refer people to these ones and yet cannot provide their own professionals because they have discouraged education.

  Possible criminal matters should be turned over to the authorities, those with marriage problems should be encouraged to seek qualified marriage counsellors, depression should be referred to trained doctors etc. The elders should be there to offer spiritual support while professionals deal with the rest imo.

  It's about time someone made an effort to try these religious leaders. Obviously they won't oblige but at least some bad publicity won't hurt and neither will it hurt to see their hypocrisy exposed.

  I'm sure the point will be made even though the old boys will probably be moved somewhere else. It will be nice for them to see how it feels to be on the receiving end of a publicity campaign after years of their sandwich boards and sound cars and "scathing denunciations".

  I have to hand it to you Bill for being a nightmare for them that just won't quit. You might as well take advantage of the "freedom of expression" laws that JWs fought so hard for us to have .

  Thanks for another poll Aussie..

  I would have to say that I was generally pretty happy when people were reinstated. I usually felt pretty bad when people were disfellowshipped because I bought into the "no one is disfellowshipped for the sin but only because they weren't repentent" stuff, which later I found out was a crock. Favoritism and other politics played a part in who was disfellowshipped and who was not.

  I usually felt the urge to applaud after the announcement but due to the WT telling us how inappropriate that would be I would restrain myself.

  Over the years I found myself drawn to those on the "fringes" and those who were in and out of the organization in the perpetual cycle of 'sin' and guilt and punishment because they still 'believed it was the truth'.

  I found these people to be more "real" and genuine than most. I was also good friends with many of the elders that would deal with them. I think many of these elders too were good men but at a loss how to deal with these sorts of persons. Within the framework of the rules and directions they were given, I think most just did what they had to do.

  hi bill............. so...... you have the most qualified victims coming to your site........and you give them to attorneys who sue for only................ $ 50.000?.....................as in the case of heidi meyer............. and she has to go through hell ......"again"......and be ridiculed in court, and made to expose her most private sensitive issues on how she got molested........ for a lousey $50,000?............

  Nice reply Bill. I think most here would like to see the WT pay larger sums, but there is much to be said for not letting money taint the reasons why the lawsuit is there in the first place. I think leaving the amount awarded in the hands of the jury is the better way.

  Crawdad seems to have been very passionate about this issue for a long time, just like many others. I think we are all on the same side here and while we might have differences over how our personal objectives should be carried out, most seem supportive of the over-all efforts.

  I am less inclined to waste my time discussing things with JWs anymore. Even time spent here could be better used. Lots of times I think the result would be the same if we just abandoned them to rot and if they are really seeking "the truth", then somehow they will find it on their own.

  I enjoyed your post Fancois as well as the realization you came to. It is just not worth the headache sometimes.

  I think JWs skip over my house these days, but if they called I probably would just say something cryptic to them that hopefully years from now they will understand what I was trying to tell them.

  I was surprised that he kept standing so long. He just kept taking his punishment without much resistance. But the interviews that followed were what threw me for a loop. For days after the fight I would just have these moments out of nowhere where I'd just think to myself, "damn, that was bizarre".

  I don't think anyone was expecting the behavior shown by Tyson during the interviews. To behave like a gentleman with respect for Lewis right after getting the crap beat out of him was absolutely unexpected. I'm probably gullible, and I'll admit I bought it and I still believe he has some $$$ left in him. Perhaps less as a serious contender but still a name that is recognized and one that will sell. His next major fight will be important.
