I don't think Bill and the ladies could have carried themselves any better. The reaction to the Society's claimed policy was excellent, the use of the term "excommunication" instead of disfellowshipping and explanation of the impact of shunning to a JW was perfect.
Bill's skillful evading of his recent disfellowshipping was a good move and came off naturally. The ladies were very brave and well spoken. I hope this interview wore down the cold hearts a little more.

to 'fade it to black'.. it is likely that most witnesses will passively go along with this.
I think the flow of information will reach a point where many key individuals, particularly well-know elders will start stepping "aside" and fading away in significant numbers. Eventually things will get to a point where people HAVE to stop lying to themselves. When a significant number begin to leave and the real reasons why they are leaving are gossipped about in so many private conversations they just can no longer be dismissed and ignored.
Already many uncomfortable topics are tossed around much more so than in the past. I think many are trying to find ways of justifying the problems but many are searching for what it all means. So many are simply overlooking the most obvious- "religion is a snare and a racket".
No one wants to be played for a fool and no one wants to be the last off a sinking ship. That uncomfortable thought constantly plays itself over and over in the minds of many - "what if we are wrong?" Increasingly it will just be the mentally ill, the elderly and those completely dependant on the Society for their means of living.

LOL Maybe they have changed them after "disgruntled apostates" began posting the codes on the net? I was pretty young at the time when I asked people what the codes to their hall were. I just rolled my eyes when one after another in the city was a 'JW scripture' or a date of significance in JW interpretation.

i figured maybe you could help me out too.. i'll start by saying that i'm fifteen, and that i am in an unfavorable situation concerning my relationship with a witness.
my mom doesn't feel comfortable with me talking to this person, and she says that it is a bad thing to be talking to her.
I must have overlooked the girl being your cousin and 24 info when I posted. Having that now, I would suspect she has an agenda of "saving you" from your mother's "corrupting" influence. Your last post seems very sensible and will probably be the best decision.

Most halls have alarm systems in addition to the key. One of these codes, 1914, 8318, 2414... will get you into probably 90% of all KHs.

At 15 most JW youth are well on their way out of the religion and the double-life is well under way. Most young people aren't exactly "proud" to be Witnesses and hide it and I doubt she even brings it up very often. If she is associating with a non-JW who's mom is an ex-Witness that says lots about her "loyalty" to this religion.
People need to keep in mind that this younger generation has a completely different attitude toward their parents beliefs. If we condemn all JW's as evil and manipulative then we basically are condemning ourselves too.
Dude, I think it is great that your mom is leaving this decision up to you. Religion will ultimately play a part in this scenario and likely will create some difficulties. But sometimes things go okay and sometimes we just have to find out the hard way. If you want to learn in detail about this religion then keep in mind your mother's cautions and do your learning from a distance.

last night i called to do the "check-in" thing on my mom.
she had just been to the assembly and she was all fired up and decided to give me an earful.
apparently, at the assembly all in attendance were told that "this is it" the end is nigh and they should do all they can to prepare for the impending destruction about to befall everyone.
I had the same comments from my parents as well, including the "even if it is wrong it was still the best way of life".
I don't think at that point there is any common ground and very little hope for them. They have passed beyond all logic and reason and have resigned themselves to being Witnesses no matter what. If they believe they are happy then often times you find that you have to leave them with their beliefs and part ways.
I just couldn't base my life on something that *might* be wrong and I am amazed that this religion has programmed so many members to stay in until the bitter end. It could all be openly exposed for the sham it is and so many will say "where else will we go and what better life is there?"

Nice to see the WT getting hit over and over and over again in the mainstream media on this issue. I'm sure many JW's still remain mostly in the dark on this but surely some things must be trickling through that "permafrost" (lol) on their brains. And you know only one JW in about 30 needs to see something before gossip runs away on subjects like these.
Just a suggestion for what its worth but I'd let the women talk often where possible. Keep it mellow and calm and smooth. Be "PR" conscious.

Waiting has been a class act from as far as I remember since my posting here. She is intelligent and strong and dignified with some good doses of sarchasm. A very special lady and one of this board's greatest assets imo.

in october of 2000, i faded away from the watchtower.
like most people, i have family and friends who are jw's (including my wife and parents).
fading is generally the best method for people in that situation.

I found every point to be very true and anyone thinking about leaving should really file this away somewhere. Hopefully they will find success in what is likely to be the preferred method for exiting this high control group.
I think silence is extremely important, especially while you are doing your "research" into your beliefs. Building friendships and networks outside of this organization is extremely important. Recognizing that the exit process will take years and that you will not likely be successful in "freeing" your family are unfortunate realities that need to be accepted.
Again, you did a good job putting this together and I don't think it could have been said any better.
