in a thread over at witnesses.net entitled "society bracing for law suits" fellow jw's are taking swipes at ray franz.
not too long ago, while i was still under the wt spell i also would have similarily spoken abusively of ray.
I saw that thread over on Witnet. Funny how it seems ok to label someone an apostate, homosexual, etc without any actual knowlege of the facts.
I commend the man for his writing. To be so loved and hated must be difficult. At least he can see the tide turning now, and maybe he will live to see some sort of vindication of his character.
I don't think the organization is going to die, and unfortunately he will likely always be labelled by the organization as an apostate, a traitor.
That is a shame, but at least he did what he could.

Probably one of the most special moments of the year as JW was when the people stood up to get baptised, and everyone applauded.
Now I know that they were baptized into an Organization, I knew most were raised in the truth and statistcally destined to "fall away".
But I remember what that day meant to me, the feelings sitting in the "special section". I think for the most part its a moment of genuiness for most people.
I had alot of pride in being a part of it all during those moments.

Post anything that comes to mind. You don't have to think of everything at once.
I sort of miss giving talks. While they stressed me out, and wore me out giving one, I don't think I'll have such a forum (in real life) to really confess my faith before a group of people of any size.
I miss some people, that weren't close enough to be really good friends, but were nice none-the-less.
I miss the "social club", the common connection with a group of people you don't even know. That was kind of cool.
I sort of miss the meetings in a weird way. I kind of enjoyed some of the parts, certain speakers. (I don't miss hopping in a cold car to after a long work day with no dinner to get to the meeting )
I miss putting on a suit every now and again.

I would have to say at the "local" congregational level, those that impact the congregation most are the so-called "strong". The elders and their wives.
The rest of the people are simply weak and are someone to be "helped". Ministerial servants really have a non-title for the most part, since it carries no authority until they become elders.
Studies detailing the politics behind a congregation would be interesting. Elders wives pull lots of strings and get lots of info out of their spineless husbands (not to say there are lots too that tell their wives nothing) but I know this to be true. They also can pull strings to get their husbands to do things for them, ie counsel someone they don't like.
Many times i think some strong women impact the hall because they seem to have more time to network and gossip outside of meeting times. Service car-groups are places where the latest info is exchanged. Many times these sisters know more what's going on than the elders.
(Not to demean sisters, but that some have too much time on their hands seems to have been part of the "design" of the "JW system".)

although this is directed to you, ahhah, naturally i welcome comments by all who participate here.. in reference to a portion of what i posted to seven:.
I think prayer provides some sort of personal comfort and strength in that the person asking or talking to God in faith gains such because he has confidence he is not facing his problems alone.
Prayers of a specific nature that seem to be answered can be perplexing, since no answer is said to be an answer in itself, therefore covering all the bases.
But if the individual asks and feels he has recieves, what harm is it to credit God? There's probably more satisfaction crediting God than chance.
As far as one's health goes, it raises the difficult position of what about all the others that die with unanswered prayers? Was their faith somehow weaker? Why does one live and another die?
I do believe we are spiritual creatures, and as such I personnally find the same comfort and strength in prayer. I can't answer the difficult questions, but i don't think i need to have all the answers to believe.
