Hi Peace. Welcome

kind of a sad but inevitable end to a special and unique place on the net.
free speech is severely limited in the truth, and the wide range of opinion and viewpoint between the old school and the new school i'm sure made operating such a site a challenge.. for me the most facinating thing was the way one could see thinking troubled witnesses contrasted with the ones who were the mindless products of an organization.
i think it was a valuable window into the worldwide picture of what is happening today in the religion.. the site was helpful to me, and for that it holds a special place with me.
Welcome RR.
I agree that those forums were a unique and interesting place, and at present there doesn't exist a place quite like them. Although this place is quite interesting in itself. Its only downfall is it lets people be honest and not force them to pretend.
nice to see you too again "nelly".

hi all brothers and sisters.
i am simply looking for friends to talk with over email or icq.
i am adjusting to living alone after my wife left me and then was disfellowshipped.
Hey Margaret.
I used to use that same reasoning too. I was quite proud of myself for coming up with it too.
Have you thought of the signs God used to show he was using the Isrealites? Can you tell me what makes you so sure God is using the Witnesses today?
The Isrealites apostacized from God and he eventually cast them off and rejected them. During the frequent reign of wicked and wayward kings, there were always individuals who rejected who was running the organization God was using because they were not following God's laws. What comment do you have on this?
How can u be sure that the organization God is using today cannot corrupt like Isreal, and like the first century Christian Congregation? (remember 5 of 7 congregations in revelation recieved strong counsel for not following Christian principles). If it ever did, what would you do? Would you remain loyal to the principles set out in the Bible or would you continue to follow men, hoping things will get better?
Finally Margaret, what is compelling you to post here? You're facinating and your presence is most welcome here.

i am a newcomer and have thoroughly enjoyed the last couple weeks communicating with all of you.. i have generally kept abreast of the new truths, but am not clear on some details.
for example, as of about 1986, college is now ok, but i think it is supposed to be limited to degrees and subjects that are directly job related.
what are the written and unwritten rules on this subject?.
College:
I think they encourage more courses that can be completed within 2 years or less preferably. Having to stay away from home (and meetings?) is discouraged. Education is always with a view to supporting yourself as a pioneer. (funny all the ones who encourage it aren't presently pioneering.) I think much also depends on the area and hall you attend, local attitudes etc.
Government jobs:
Not really sure, but can these ones really speak freely and say how they feel? Does anyone really care? Too bad their consciences were more sensitive than others, isn't it?
Bad Words:
Luck is still among many to be a bad word. But i think most of these once forbidden words have faded away. You'd be surprised at how many elders and others in responsible positions use swear words. I think they've backed down to appear less cult-like. But amongst the older crowd, this "internet" is just terrible.
Demons:
A noticable disappearance of great "demon" encounters. Probably realize it makes us look fanatical and that many of past experiences can be attributed to psychological factors. I've been asking myself were have these great stories gone to? Although there still is that lingering paranoia about garage sales and second hand shops.. LOL

The site was helpful to me, and for that it holds a special place with me. It let me toss out ideas and get feedback, to connect with alot of people. I know there are many people being tormented by their thoughts as they try to work through this.
I thank obed, not only for the work put into the site, but also for his personal assistance during what was clearly a turning point in my life, the change in me from simply asking the questions to me being honest with myself and accepting the answers.
Its very difficult "pretending". Yet for most of us, that is what we do many times. Its tiring. I give him credit in the end for his honesty and last courageous farewell message. http://discussion.witnesses.net/Forum67/private-8QWKRq0/HTML/000179-10.html

Thank you for responding Margaret. I think you will find a wide range of difficult experiences those on this board have been through. I must admit that my experiences do not seem so difficult in comparisson to most here. The name "pathofthorns" was chosen to convey the difficulties experienced in our spiritual journey.
No one needs to tell you how difficult life can be in this system. As a nurse you see that everyday. I agree with you that no human should rob us of God's gift to us.
I don't think i'd ever be one to let that happen to me. The difficult thing is we all have different ways of looking at the same things. You look at the organization and Jehovah as being the same thing. I look at it from the point of view that I will only remain in the organization as long as it is loyal to Jehovah and the principles in the Bible. If it deviates from Jehovah or the Bible my conscience will dictate that i have to leave the organization to actually remain loyal to Jehovah. Our loyalty to Jehovah as his witnesses supercedes our loyalty to any organization.
In all honesty Margaret you remind me much of myself a while ago, almost trying to convince yourself of things just to "hang in there" as you say, using just about every cliche in the book . But then i realized that constantly "hanging in there" for something that has been such a long time coming, is very tiring.
Try changing your perspective. Instead of "hanging in" for the "end" to come, enjoy doing what you can to change things now in your life for the better. Do what you can and what you need to to be happy, and when the "end" comes, you'll have made the wait so much better in the meantime.

I love the truth in your sarchastic humour.
hey friend.. i see you're encouraging letter writing to the society on blood.
can u please give some tips on what to include.
i figure i'd like to include your (lol) research paper as well.
Thank you for your reply Friend. I will try to weigh out what you have suggested.
I'm just concerned at the possibility of no reply or an inadequate one. Some questions simply beg answers and it is frustrating.
I find the information in the jw-bloodreview.org deserves to be refuted or else the conclusion should stand. Any delay in making changes incurs moral responsibility, especially when those who sent such letters enclosing the research have reciepts stating Brooklyn recieved letters by a specific date.
How does the Society respond to this?? Why does it all move so slow, yet so quickly when it wants or has to? Why do people almost have to force their hand to do something??
