i recall as a child going with several brothers to the local prison so the brothers, normally elders could go in and preach to the prisoners.. we as children would stay in the car for what seemed like hours while the brothers carried out whatever preaching work they deemed fit.
this also included return visits.. does this still go on today?
do the brothers still visit inmates at prisons?.

Yes, here in CT, the the area I live, there are regular Bible studies going on in a maximum security facility. Referrals are made and new studies are started as often as needed. I've never heard of any sisters experience in this area in detention facilities.

If you have not yet read my post "PLEASE HELP - WT LAWSUIT PROGRESSING" you may want to take a minute to review it. My lawsuit was filed in early 1998 with regards to the present pleadings. While the abuse issues do not exclusively center around child molestation, the arguments of protecting and covering up the "crime" (battering) reveal much about the dynamics of the religious authority of "Watchtower" while at the same time the pleadings attempt to argue the Court's need to limit the First Amendment protection by secularizing the incidents alleged as opposed to generalizing 'religious protection' of them. Civil suits such as mine have been rare and therefore is being fought against aggressively, Watchtower is using two separate groups of lawyers to defend.

Why not tell your friend about "Silentlambs". Be a bit discreet about it by implying that you recently heard about it and many of Jehovah's Witnesses have found it a good way to express feelings and interact for support. Assure her of Bill Bowen's technical 'still in good standing' position. Remind her that getting angry and speaking out about bad people does not constitute not loving God. Tell her how some abused persons went so far as to take up prostitution or the like for a time in order to cope with their circumstances, therefore she may feel a little less self-condemned. After all what is done is done but if she truly feels that she needs to take responsibility for personal poor choices and decisions, the best encouragement she can have is to feel others want to help. She obviously has a friend in you. Good for you!

I was amused at patio34's offering the quote that the 'Supreme Court Justices saw the importance of the public ministry'. I heard a few of the remarks of the Justices at an earlier time and I don't think they were much concerned about the 'ministry'.
And Invisible's encouragement to give Stratton a fuller picture. Surely many, beyond Stratton's village limits are getting a fuller picture.
Perhaps this is Jehovah's direction all in all. To strain out the gnat and gulp down the camel is suicidal. Sure our rights of free speech are important, even this "evil" world recognizes that. But if we preach free and anonymous speech as being important while in the darkness of our inner circles torture and maim innocent persons, including 'inhibiting their free speech', WOE!

I will always try to answer questions; actually encourage them. If I cannot, I'll do my best to offer an explanation why not.
1.) There was no criminal investigation years ago for several reasons. In the state of Connecticut, issues regarding child abuse (violence) and wife battering (physical and psychological), unless there was lots of blood or dangling limbs, would be minimized as a problem that should be addressed through family, therapy or religion. This is not to say that there were not state departments that would investigate, but up until the late 1980's, the support groups and high profile recognition that we see today did not exist. Of course, my primary reason for not reporting should be obvious to the readers of JWD. It was a sin to air dirty laundry to any that were not in a position of congregation oversight. Furthermore, and you'll see if you read the entire legal 'complaint' that there is a very insidious way to carry out violence so that few marks show!
2.) The lawsuit is against WTBTS, et al. The named Defendants are 4 (still prominent) elders.
3.) The legal 'complaint' states physical and psychological abuse against mother and child and briefly makes mention of sexual abuses. I cannot comment further on that because my son, who is not or never became one of JWs, is working his way to be able to come forward to testify. As you know, not speaking about a matter means not having to think on or relive the matter.

As far as the comment of fear of a scam, I guess the 'proof is in the pudding'. Anyone sending for the 'complaint' would have to receive it. Surely if I did not make good on my word, the posting would be all over this site. Depending on where it is being sent, it should not take more than 5 days to have a return. I too am puttting trust in persons to make good on a check. You know today if a check bounces in your account the reciever gets charged as well and certainly I can't afford losing more than I already have. Hopefully, this will provide some assurance of my sincerity.

The history of this case is extensive. The thrust of the claim revolves around the cover-up of domestic abuse issues. This suit is now in Appellate Court and is being fought against aggressively by WT. I have worked to keep publicity minimal so as not to cause prejudice within the Judicial System, as well as attempting to avoid harm to innocent victims. Also, I believe this to be the best way to carry on with the case with minimal resistance from misunderstanding friends and acquaintances. Affecting judicial law is ultimately the best way to accomplish changes of "policy" regarding abuse issues including child molestation. I think most would agree. Notwithstanding, because of the local congregational prejudice toward my case, I am left without financial help and other support. I have no family to help and limited outside acquaintances.
In an attempt to raise money to meet material needs, I am requesting financial assistance. I am willing to send a copy of the present standing complaint (41 pages) to anyone for a $35.00 donation along with a self-addressed, at least 10"x 13", envelope (weight is 10oz.). Any assistance is greatly needed and appreciated; my living conditions are reduced presently to a one room living area. Other difficulties include meeting minimal transportation and basic debts. I have carried the weight of the above case pretty much alone and it is time to ask for help.
The standing complaint is signed as Pro Se (self). I had taken up legal studies at a local community college in order to be better equipped for and to assist in this case in order to be not only successful, but to save on costs. The attorney of record recommended that I revise the original complaint (over 60 pages) that WT successfully motioned to strike on all 4 counts. (His firm did the work up until this point) My revised and subsequent substitute complaint successfully maintained counts 1 and 2 and therefore is signed as Pro Se. All trial preparation was made to have begun last fall, but WT was successful in motioning again for summary judgment. My attorney had affirmed that he would be taking over again on appeal and is now in process of doing the briefs. The present "Second Substitute Complaint" is the active pleading at this time and date and is what I will send to who ever is willing to financially assist. Thank you.
