So is anyone looking up California legislators on websites and contacting them, even though you're out of state? How about contacting anyone you know inside the state who'd help out on this? Can't just sit back and assume it'll pass on its own.

WTS soon to be in World of Hurt !!!
by Amazing inthe state of california is now considering legistlation to make it easier, in fact very easy, for a victim of pedophilia to sue the church (catholic church is main target of legislation) for significant monetary damages - perhaps shifting the burden of proof somewhat to the perpetrators (priests) and their religious organizations who knew of these child molesters and shifted them around to different parishes.
the watchtower religion will also be significantly affected as the legislation is generic enough to include all religious organizations.
what else will be of concern to the watchtower religion?

WRITTEN REVIEW
by crawdad2 inwhich scriptures do jw elders use, to handle cases of molestation......... where they remind the little girl that she doesn't have 2 witnesses?
1 tim 5:19 .
c. matt 18:16 .

That "two witnesses" demand is crap--an excuse to do nothing. When there's a question of someone having violated JW doctrine it's fine. But not for a criminal allegation.

Dr. Nicolosi and homosexuality
by JWinSF ini was going to respond to isps topic on preventing homosexuality dr. j nicolosi, but due to its number of responses, decided to start a new topic.. nicolosi's comments were prominently referred to in the three 1995 awake!
articles about homosexuality in the "young people ask" section.
i had just come out recently and read the articles.

I was going through past threads and came upon this one.
Simon, you can at least commend yourself for trying to understand us. So many people don't.
One book you might want to check out (I was going to recommend this as well to a guy id'ed as "Stormrider" but his post of "Are there gay JW's?" ended and he hasn't returned since) is "What the Bible Really Says About Homosexuality" by Daniel J. Helminiak, Ph.D.
He takes a "historical-critical" approach in interpreting Scripture. For example: Stormrider maintained Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed because the inhabitants desired sex with the angels. Helminiak notes that in those days, the worst thing an inhabitant of the city (BTW Lot, by living there, was a Sodomite though not gay) was not to provide hospitality to strangers. And since it was a patriarchial society, women were, literally, property--to be done with as their male superior wanted. This explains why he could offer his daughters to the crowd in exchange for them leaving the strangers alone. If he had allowed the angels to come to harm Lot would have violated that custom. See also Ezekiel 16:49, 50 which lists Sodom's sins, and immorality wasn't among them.
If this will help, use what I call the PET (Practical Effects Test) approach. Does another person's skin color, religion, sexual orientation, whatever--affect my paycheck, property taxes, kid's SAT scores, etc? If not, why concern myself with it? But to some people out there the issue can't be let go of. You don't strike me as that type and I'm glad.

Self-Gratification
by DINKY inokay, i'm not trying to start a fight - really!
but i've had this strange question/opinion and wanted to put it out for discussion.. we know how the wt says masturbation is wrong - which i believe is a load of "crud.
" i mean, everybody does it - it's perfectly natural, normal, human, and necessary (especially for men, crucial to being in a decent mood).. so, if jesus was a perfect human, do you all suppose he did?

Jack2,
dink, masturbation is not grounds for df'ing.
Since when? It's what I got bounced for, unless it was my *attitude* and not the acts? -

I kinda feel out of tune with the board
by Kingpawn ini've read lots of the threads over the past months, and think i understand the board's "makeup" of people (and please correct me if i'm wrong).
if i'm right, i might have a hard time relating to what the rest of you have gone through.. i became a jw in 1979 or so, and spent more time studying to be one than being one.
i was df'ed a short time later, briefly went through an effort to rejoin, and called it off when my first child was born.

I want to thank everyone who left me a welcome message, especially since intellectually I knew there must be others like me I didn't see any postings that made me realize it, if that makes sense. I didn't consider that many of you have been here so long that info like that was given out long ago.
HomebutHiding makes the point I didn't buy into it. When I look back, I think my approach was kind of like taking it in intellectually but not emotionally during study. I applied it during Thanksgiving that year--hiding in my room fasting while everyone else ate. I can't remember if I was still in by Christmas or not.
For lv4fver: am I understanding you right if I interpret your comment on Jesus being begotten vs. created as meaning, say, a process more akin to birth (an offshoot of God) like in Chronicles rather than a wholly created seperate being? It kinda went over my head (at 5'5" not something needing a lot of effort). I'll have to reread that scene mentioned in Revelation about the resurrection again, but I remember something of it vaguely.
Another blessing I had was brought to mind by what Marilyn said in that much pain is created by the ostracism of those still in the borg (probably the most apt term for the Society). I was the only one in my family who became one. My mother had a copy of the "Truth" book (in mint condition!) but never told me about them.
I don't know if anyon else's checked out the item in the "Net Soup(?)" applet about meetups for ex-JW's but there's one in my area in a couple of weeks and I might go. May not be able--they get cancelled if at least five don't show up and I make two signed up so far.
I went for a walk this morning thinking over some of the things I've learned here, relating them to other facts learned, like 1975 and the counsel at Matt. 24:36, or their demanding two witnesses to a pedophilia allegation. There it didn't take long to see that applying a two-witness requirement to a civil (criminal) as opposed to religious matter (doctrinal questions) was wrong, as well as the "`75 could be it!" hoopla. Reading about it left me appalled and saddened that they ignored the verse and so many lost so much as a result. Correct me if I'm wrong, but was there any contrition on the WTBTS's part afterward?
But I'm glad a person in Yahoo Chat nicknamed wturls told me about this site! Thanks again to all who posted, Mark

I became a JW in 1979 or so, and spent more time studying to be one than being one. I was DF'ed a short time later, briefly went through an effort to rejoin, and called it off when my first child was born. Ironically, all three elders who DF'ed me are themselves DF'ed.
My point: many of you were in it for decades and the seperation was/is very painful for you. Me, I didn't much care. I don't feel any lingering pain over it. My problem is I can still accept the doctrines (no blood, no holidays, etc) because I can't argue with the logic of some of them (ex.: the Trinity. *Was* the universe w/o God for nine months while Mary carried the Christ child? How much sense does that make?).
Sure, I was a nice parrot for doctrines when needed. I went door-to-door and all that. But I guess what bothers me is I don't feel...like those here who were in it for a long time (many will probably say I was lucky to've gotten out so soon) and were thrown out. I don't argue with my being DF'ed even though it was an expulsion by confession, not the testimony of two or three others. So in many ways I feel like a stranger, out of focus, unable to relate--*that's* the phrase I was looking for all this time!
There must be others like me, or there have been. So how do I learn to relate when I may've set a record for the shortest time as an actual dub? I hope this makes sense.

Are women naturally "Bi" ?
by refiners fire injust a question.
actually a friend of mine, alex, (who hopefully might read this and commence posting on this board) has been insisting for 20 years that women are naturally bi sexual.
i laughed at his claims.. but now, looking around here, and based on numerous group chats ive had with women on this site, there seems to be some evidence that his theory is correct.

You stated in your opening post that since there is often talk of some women being attracted to other women on this board that women may be bi-sexual. Conversely, among the men this type of talk is rarely, if ever, heard.
Okay, here's my theory, as nearly as I can express it. Men are a bit "homophobic," for want of a better word. Men are highly offended by talk of male homosexuality and are often very aggressive about angrily stating and stopping it, as evidenced by the heated threads on the subject of male homosexuality. So, it's rare that a man would broach the subject, let alone make suggestive comments to another man.
As a gay man who's through fighting it in myself (I hope), I'd have to agree that men strongly resent discussing it. And it's also true that men encourage this type of talk among women. Check out personals ads and the over whelming percentage of married couples looking for a three-way say they're looking for a bi-fem, or that the wife is bi.
Guys have made so many jokes about "sissies" that they see all gay men that way. (And to them, of course, there is no bi, just str8 and gay.) Sooooo, if they even faintly acknowledge they might be bi/gay, they conjure up a mental image of themselves as an effeminate man and react savagely.
When Anne Heche (Ellen DeGeneres' former lover) bolted back to the straight world, an article discussing this topic said that women's sexuality may be far more fluid than a man's is. And as has been noted already, women are freer to express sentiments like these because it's in line with a woman's naturally more nurturing nature, a side men have as well though many are loath to admit it.

Question for good boy's gone bad?
by butalbee ini've read on this website countless threads about girls getting involved, falling head over feet in love with dubs.
supposingly good dubs, who want their cake with extra frosting on top, so to speak.... me being one of those girls, who fell in love with the wrong guy--knows exactly how they feel--one way or another they've gonna get hurt, and i think i've replied with the "run for your life" type statement--in truth, it is really the only sane choice.
i know why we fall helplessly infatuation w/ these dud's--they're charming, well mannered, well dressed, kind, innocently sexy, they look great in a suit, and i guess, in my case, i used to invision myself taking off his suit: first the tie, then unbuttoning his shirt with my mouth, and well--okay--i am again meandering off the path.. here is my question and it is for all the male jw's that may read this: if you know it is wrong to get involved with worldly women, then why do you pursue us?????

Yahoo gives you six MB free--if switching the e-mail addy on the groups you get mail from isn't too big a hassle, maybe it'd be worth it. No need to find time daily to check a smaller mailbox.
Why do JW guys date non-JW women? JW women are as exciting as cardboard.

Didn't it occur to the guy doing the lifeline parable that hanging on to a lifeline attached to a sinking ship meant you would go down with it? You lose either way.
