Yes, it really is pitiful. In essense, the organization lets the other disaster relief teams come in first like the Red Cross and others who will supply first aid supplies, food, water, etc. These other organizations get nothing back for it except a "thank you"

Then once the bellies are full, and thirst is quenched, in comes the Watchtower organization with it's teams of slaves ready to rebuilt homes. And of course these Jdubs don't have the heart to keep the insurance money after seeing those slaves work hard to rebuild their homes, so they hand in the check.

Because if you think about it, why the urgency in rebuilding the home if the insurance will pay for it? If my house burns tonight for example, i'm not going to call my family and friends and ask everybody to rebuild it; I'd stay with family, wait for my insurance company to pay and then i'll hire professionals to rebuild my home the right way.

lol, exactly! Cause there is no way that people who speak different languages could ever build a structure together, right? Just go to a contruction site in Dubai and see how many difference nationalities there are working together.

But let's say for a minute that Jehoober really wanted construction to stop in one building in one village in the middle east. The best plan he has is to make everybody on our planet start speaking different languages?

How utterly stupid.

Then again, this is the same God who supposedly decided to flood the entire planet and kill all animals, and plants, because he wanted to kill a few humans that live in Noah's town.

It is interesting to see what the Watchtower society focuses on when it comes to these supposed disaster relief operations. It's not food, or clothes, or medical supplies. Why? because there is no financial return on these items.

They concentrate on the one thing they can actually make money on. And in fact considering that they use free labor to rebuild homes, even if only one out of every 5 victims hands in the insurance money, they probably still make a profit.

What a shame.

Is College Worth It? Clearly, New Data Say...

a new set of income statistics answers those questions quite clearly: yes, college is worth it, and its not even close.

for all the struggles that many young college graduates face, a four-year degree has probably never been more valuable.. here is the article from the new york times:.

I also know a Master Plumber who makes a VERY nice living.

I know plenty of people without degrees who make a great living, but that's not usually the case. Many others work harder for less money and are given less opportunities. Also college forces you to study things which will make you a more well-rounded a knowledge individual. But again, i've met some pretty dumb college graduates, and some pretty bright people without a college education.

Gollege is not for everybody, and not everybody is meant to go to college. If everybody went to college, then there would be nobody to fill jobs which involve a lot of manual labor, since everybody would think they are above it. The issue is not so much that everbody should go, but instead that someone who wants to go, is being told by a religious group that they shouldn't.

........ well at least the ones i encountered on my recent holiday to orlando.

now i know that its a tourist destintion so everyone working in the hotels and parks are on their best behaviour.

but i have been to tourist towns here in the uk and europe but not one is on a par with you guys.. my husband and i haven't stopped talking about to anyone that wants to listen.

It depends on the area. I live in New York and believe me when i tell you that people here in the NYC metropolitan area are some of the most rude people you will find.

But i've been to many areas of the country where people indeed are nice.

I coul be wrong, but I think this poster is a troll feeding on our emotions. I would advice moderators to watch him closely.

Yes just someone trying to stir up emotions.

I have to say, whenever i see someone making a point that very very soon, the UN will attack organized religion and destroy it, i just can't quite understand how i actually believed that stupidity. It is one of the most implausable things i've ever heard. For that to happen, the UN would really have to cease to exist, since that is not compatible with it's charter. That is, of course if the UN had any power to do anything at all, which in in the real world, it doesn't.

I can just imagine in a country like the US, anybody trying to outlaw religion. The federal government here is scared to even taking a stance on gay marriage. Ironically, they don't take a stance because of the very religious feelings people have on the subject. And they would try to outlaw relgion? What a completely idiot idea.

Head coverings for women

my mom used to throw a paper napkin on her head when forcing us to study after i was baptised.

i've seen scarves, and shawls, and a very few hats.. isn't using a napkin on your head just the same as not bothering?

Another ridiculous rule courtesy of the Watchtower society. Another example of reading the bible and take it at face value instead of trying to understand why is was done and what it meant.

The fact is that at that time, head coverings were a sign of submission. The reason why it makes no sense to follow this ritual now is because today, and especially in our culture, head coverings have no such meaning.

Also the bible says:

For if a wife will not cover her head, then she should cut her hair short. But since it is disgraceful for a wife to cut off her hair or shave her head, let her cover her head" (1 Cor. 1:3-6).

There you go folks, you read it. The alternative to covering your head, is to cut your hair short. But then it goes on to say that it is disgraceful for a woman to have short hair; how many JW sisters have short hair? Why is it not disgraceful?

But if the Watchtower says having short hair is not disgraceful, then if you are a sister and have short hair, there is no need to cover your head, since that is an acceptable alternative according to the bible.

i was just thinking, with all the new promising stem cell research and trials, many scientists predict that in a decade or two, advanced biotech will make possible to extend human lifespan considerably and soon after indefinitely.

also, access to vast amounts of information is becoming ubiquotous throughout the world and it seems that it's increasingly harder to keep people ignorant and in the dark.

As much as i want to live a long time, this would be a terrible thing for mankind. Already world population is growing at an alarming rate; the only thing positive thing right now is that people in developed countries have the common sense not to have a ton of kids. If this became reality, you would have to create mandatory sterilization.
