Right, and i guess to use your quote from the literatrash article, if this brother was working in an adults-only video store, this would not be acceptable, but if it's a store that happens to also have questionable items, then I guess this is fine.

don't you agree that porn stores also need to hear the good news?
When i was still a JW, a brother that i was good friends with, worked in a small video store ( if your under 20, you might not even know what that is). In any case, video stores had an adult section in a separate room. The elders from our congregation would often pass by the video store, and check if this brother was inside the adult section. They actually challenged him a few times about handling adult videos, stocking them, returning them, etc, which he often had to do.
It was kind of a grey area, but despite the complaining, they never actually threatened him, or took any action.

I mean we're paying taxes so they work in the many challenges that this country has. Improve the infrastructure, fix healthcare, let's work guys! This impeachment thing has been going for years now, each day worse than the other.
I agree that the power struggle is pathetic. But sometimes we fail to realize that we really should care, because these things are consequential. Even if it seems our lives just carry on unaffected, this is an illusion. The incentives that government creates do trickle down in to average joe's life.
If the US has an administration that -- while bowing to the fossil fuel lobby -- makes it a priority to invest on coal mining and processing, and oil, etc, this will affect all of us at some point.
Coal and fossil fuels (to pick one topic) is not the way of the future. Coal jobs are not coming back (nor should they). We should be investing and focusing on things that are on the right side of history, and incentivize greater demand via policy and fiscal incentives.
Whoever controls government controls the the incentives that determine the direction of the country, and this is why impeachment or not, is consequential.

Ruin those Ruining th Earth
by peacefulpete init has been mentioned before but since we have been discussing environmental issues on another thread, i thought it might be timely to discuss rev 11:18 which has recently become a popular text for those christians concerned about environmental threats of pollution and climate change.
is this passage being interpreted correctly?
did the writer somehow anticipate the modern environmental situation, or did he intend something more in keeping with the bible's general concerns of morality and sin?.

The issue is not what or how we consume, its the population pure and simple. You can not put 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag
Exactly, and this is what I tell folks i know. There are too many people on the planet.
We can either keep the same amount of people, and go back to living 18th century lives, where we grown things in our backyards and live in a minimalist way, or can continue to get all the products and services we want, in which case, we really need to reduce the amount of people.
I have no idea what the right number is, but I suspect that if there was 1 billion people on earth say, the strain we put on the planet would be acceptable.

No, but if was a Jdub, this would not be too hard to defend. There things out there that are way better to confront them with.
I would probably say that Tony is free to spend his personal money anyway he wants. Also, there is no evidence that all those bottles are only for him.
The optics of the incident are bad, but once you get down to the facts, there are too many possible outs. Now if Tony had been caught in a porn store, then it would be something solid.

"This is Where They Lived Happily Ever After Begins"
by The Bethelite ini saw this sign (i'm sure the bride must have bought it) at a wedding rehearsal dinner yesterday.. yes, the smiling bride was there ordering her soon to be groom around as they were setting up their party decorations.
i'm sure today october 5th will would be the happiest day of their young lives.. have you ever noticed that many movies end at the wedding ceremony?
because for the vast majority of marriages that is the best it ever gets!
-
redvip2000
Human evolved to thrive well in a community, but not necessarily with a life-long mate. This idea of marriage is invention of men through religious ethics. Most other species get together to procreate and perhaps live together for a period of time and them move on to other things. For males this is especially problematic because we are wired to procreate with as many females as possible to extend the species.

“You know how I know that they're finished out there? The carts.”
by Athanasius inthe watchtower's many legal problems and the jws' use of carts in their preaching work, reminded me of a scene and dialog from the film patton.. in a scene where patton is viewing a battle site the morning after, he says to an aide about the nazis: “you know how i know that they're finished out there?
in my dreams i saw the carts.
they kept buzzing around in my head and i couldn't figure out why.

I personally think the carts were a brilliant idea. The Watchtower recognizes that they don't need to speak to anybody at all to keep things going. The money comes in from existing members, not from the public. Therefore by having the carts, the money keeps coming in, the hours spent on preaching go up, because it's super easy for Jdubs to rack hours up. JWs don't actually engage anybody at a door, so less chance of conflict and bad reactions. Jdubs that hate going door to door, are more disposed to standing next to a cart looking at their phone, so they will preach more.
The only curveball with the carts is that it exposes them to apostates more easily, but even this is not so much a problem, because they just pack up and leave.

Need help in finding some information regarding the Adam and Eve tale.
by Tameria2001 ini am finally at the point in my life i no longer believe in the tales of the bible.
my husband feels for the most part that it too is stuff made up.
there are just a few things that he wants to get cleared up, and one of those being the story of adam and eve.
-
redvip2000
It's actually embarrassing that any of us actually believe in fairly tale about Adam and Eve.
God creates a naive couple, which have never been exposed to deceit, and then lets Satan, a wise a shrewd being, tempt them into eating an apple, which shockingly they end up doing.
Then once God realizes they ate the apple, instead of seeing that it's actually his fault for exposing them to Satan, he issues a death sentence to them, and to all their descendants, for eating that apple.
Then god lets this nonsense go on for 6000 years, because there is a doubt on whether humans can live well without God. Now most of these 6000 years were times of brutal pain, hunger, disease, and despair for humans, but he did nothing. And now that the quality of life is actually getting better for mankind, he is going to destroy everything to ensure he is not wrong.
Well done God, you're a real idiot.

New building
by asp59 inyou think the new building addition to warwick ,that will house 1000 audiovisual and art production volunteers is a push to go online with the meetings?
.

to go online with the meetings?
There is no doubt they are moving more and more into the digital space, but if you mean making members attend meetings online instead, this will never happen.
The only thing I think that keeps things together is the social aspect of the congregation and meetings, and the get togethers. If you replace that with some virtual connection, it will slowly eat away at the bond, and this would spell disaster for them.
They probably just want to continue to create more digital content to feed to the flock.

Approximately 40 authors wrote the Bible considered as GOd`s inspired word .Jesus never wrote one sentence in the bible.
by smiddy3 inthe bible from genesis to revelation and some apocrypha books are considered "god`s inspired word" written by imperfect men over the centuries.. yet jesus christ who never wrote a single sentence yet claimed to be the son of god and changed the history of the world not by what he said and did ,but by what others claimed he said and did.. moses wrote five books jesus wrote none .. how can jesus be considered greater than moses ?.
did the political powers that be in those days see an advantage of making jesus and christianity an opportunity for power and authority over the population of the time ?.
-
redvip2000
Actually Moses didn't write the first 5 books, especially considering that the 5th book describes Moses's death.
Nobody knows who wrote these fairy tale books. There is nothing special about the bible. A book that is full of nonsense and contradictions.
Even the things in the bible that you could say are good, are not impressive in anyway. Ohh, "don't kill", "don't rob", "don't sleep with your neighbors wife". We are supposed to be impressed by that? Even other people around the world who don't believe in the bible have figured that out.
You can walk into any book store and find self help books that far ahead of the bible. Books that provide real strategies and methods for living healthy, balanced lives, not the vague and redundant drivel based on middle eastern peasant philosophy.
