Amen to that. I wonder myself how i was able to go years and years believing this drivel without stopping for a minute and really think about it.

How Did/Has the WTBTS Affected Your Social Skills?
by ABibleStudent ingood or bad?
how did/has the wtbts affected your social skills, social development, and/or how you interact with other people?
i have many questions about different social skills that i will ask either after other people post to this thread or to keep this thread active.

This is something that i've strugged with and i'm slowly getting better at.
Being a Born-in, i too was damaged and feel that, although better now, i've been socially inept for most of my life. Same as others said, self conscious, intolerant, proud and most of the time, without much to say.
I don't think it's fair to say that all born-ins are like this, because i know many who are just fine, so i think it's a combination of things.

Ahhh yes i remember. Cheating on your field service report card. Going out drinking. Or the best one, chatting on AOL with someone who i thought was a complete stranger, having the conversation going the sexual path, then getting asked if i would to meet her to hook up. I said yes, of course. Then half an hour later after driving to the rendez-vous place, finding out that it was the presiding overseer's daughter, who had a thing for me and purposely posed as a stranger to try to hook up with me.

Reason for Rejoicing - The World is a Better Place
by Momma-Tossed-Me inhttp://www.forbes.com/forbes/2012/0423/current-events-progress-war-reasons-for-rejoicing-paul-johnson.html.
take a look at the above article for some interesting facts to poke and prod your jw friends or enemies as the case maybe...... .

The article is correct, the world is a better place regarding things such as famine, life expectancy, health care, and absense of large scale wars. However for some Jehovah Witneses, they see the general breakdown of moral standards, along with increasing disrespect for authority, increase of crime rates, pollution and other factors as evidence that the world is not a better place.

MsGrowingGirl20 is no longer one of......
by MsGrowingGirl20 ini am no longer one of jehovah's witnesses(well mentally that is)---however i am a christian...i recently started reading different translations from www.biblegateway.com...jesus is so different to how the jw's teach....and god...i mean, i still am learning and confused about certain things but i am in love with them.... it's obvious that the jw's are not an organization of god.i don't think god is working through an organization but through individuals...however i am going to speak to an elder tomorrow about my issues---all of them---and i'm going to tell him everything--what i've been reading, where i got it from---everything!!
i'm not hiding anything!
i have done no wrong....i just want to be a true christian and if they disfellowship me for seeking answers then this is not where i need to be.

If this will give you peace of mind, then by all means do so. However i will say that once in a while i see an instance like this one, where a "still" active witness will take the "headstrong" approach and confront the elders or the organization about all the wrongs and inconsistencies in the Org - as if they will be the ones who will make the house of cards fall. Inevitably, they realize that they are not the first ones who have tried to change the world. As said here already, the elders will summarily dismiss your points and arguments right from the start. I remember one of my friends who, when called to a JC about apostasy, showed up with all sorts of materials and notes thinking he would surely prove his point. He was instead told they were not there to debate on the beliefs of the Watchtower, but instead were there only to determine if he either believed in the truth as taught by the Watchtower or not. As soon as they determined he didn't, they took a break, then informed him he was DFed.

I had a friends of mine which at some point, was made a MS by the local elders, and he remained a MS for a few months. Then once the CO visited the congregation he went over everybody's records and saw that his preaching hours were below 10 hours, so he removed him as a MS despite what the local elders thought. Really goes to show you that preaching hours are the main barometer of how apt you are to have any sort of responsability in the congo, regardless of what other gifts or abilities you might have. I'm pretty sure that if there was a chimp who could go to a door and hand out magazines and go do this for at least 10 hours a month, he would be made a MS in no time.

Thinking about disassociating yourself - STOP!...at least for a moment
by rory-ks in(this recent forum post about a letter of disassociation encouraged me to post this new topic.
it's been sitting in my drafts folder for a little while, but now is as good a time as any.).
my suggestion would be, try not to go down the route of disassociation.
-
redvip2000
Evidently this is not a "right" or "wrong" answer. There are pros and cons of taking a position of disassociating yourself. It is true that for most, the decision not to, is mainly done to avod conflict, pain, and separation - and this is a fine reason. It is true in my case as well. I haven't been to the meetings in over 7 years - except for the occasional memorial due to friends invitations, but i choose to be a fader because i don't want some of the friends i still have not to be forced to stop talking to me. I also share the opinion that you can do more good and have more influence being a fader since you are not blocked access to having insightful conversations with the ones that are still in.
The flip side of the argument is that if we all took a stand and officially DAed ourselves, the Org would have some sort of metric on how many people are "really" leaving, and although the number would not be disclosed, it would have an impact ( i think) in the "in the know" strata of the Watchtower society. But the bottom line is that for some taking the official might be the best option, especially if you have no ties with the Org.

Reminds me when my mother refused to let a cousin who was visiting from overseas, stay at her house with the woman he lives with just because they are not married. Then eventually allowed it when they conceded to sleeping in separate rooms.......priceless.

my DF-ing letter - opinions
by raxxxx into the body of elders in xxxxx.. .
i no longer wish to recognised as one of the jehovah's witnesses due to the fact that i no longer believe that this 'organisation' is truly representing him because :.
i have experienced greater and unconditional love/friendship with the people i am supposed to hate 'worldly people' than i did in this congregation.

I completely disagree with the people here that are saying that the elders will not read the entire letter. They certainly will. They will likely dismiss your points, but still they will read it. The reason why you should expand on why you are leaving, is because typically when someone disassociate themselves, the typical knee jerk reaction is for people to think " gee i wonder what he is doing to disassociate himself"..."probaby sleeping around"..."Drugs"..etc etc. This way you make it clear that you are leaving, NOT because you are not good enough for the cult, but because the cult is NOT good enough for you.
