Now that i think about it, i haven't missed one memorial yet. Even after i left a few years ago, i have attended every one.
In my case there is this couple that i'm still friends with, that always asks us to go, so that we can go to dinner after and socialize. I never have any intention to go, but somehow they end up calling and "begging" us to go, so they can see us and grab a bite afterwards.
some of you here have a firm belief that 607 was not the fall of jerusalem, contrary to the wt beliefs that it was.
but, why is it important?
frankly, i just don't get it.
It is understood that our friends in Bethel clearly know that the date of 1914 is false. They are not stupid as they have analyzed the same evidence.
The issue is that the fact that WW1 started in 1914 is an "all too precious nugget" to be simply discarted. If WW1 had started in a different date, this 1914 date would have long been changed or discarded, even it it meant making up some BS to justify changing 1919 to another date as well.

i'm interested in knowing whether any other faders out there ever find themselves feeling a little paranoid about establishing contact with other faders or former jws, just in case the unthinkable happens and things turn sour.. personally, i'm now fairly comfortable with the idea that i will be disfellowshipped or disassociated within the next year or so.
i see it as inevitable, and an essential transition in order to do what i want to do with my life.
I know i am in the exact same boat. I am a fader for a few years now.
Mother is still in, along with sister and her family. My wife and I are completely out. Still, i find myself being cautions about revealing too much about my true feelings to them and to the many JWs i still know and talk to.
For most of them i'm a Jehovah Witness who simply stopped attending perhaps because i'm lazy, or simply not interested. They dont really ask about it and i dont bring up the issue either, because although i am out, i still would like to preserve the many friendships i developed over the years in the cult.
The only person i really talk to about this is my mother, and only because she bombards me with questions and little comments about it, which leaves me no choice but to answer back. But to my knowledge she does not discuss my position with anybody else.

And how exactly do the home owners ( you know the people who should be the focus of this ) benefit from this pathetic arrangement? Lowering the number of hours required just so you can "cook" the number of pioneers.
This makes as much sense Coca Cola cutting the price of soda in half, just so they can report more bottles sold at the end of the year.
we've all heard the old saying:.
any job worth doing is worth doing right the first time.. but, this would not seem to apply in the only organization on earth claiming to be solely guided by jehovah!.
in the watchtower society, the governing body gathers in a board room and prays, discusses and votes.
Whenever Jehovah Witnesses put forth this idiot "light getting brighter" concept, they are for all intents and purposes, blaming God for not providing information at the right time.
We are then to believe that the creator of the entire universe, is not capable of simply providing accurate information at once, to us humans. Even our pathetic human leaders are able to provide instruction to the people in an efficient manner, while ensuring that all of us are aware of what the laws of the land are.
And yet, millions of Jehovah Witnesses are ok with the idea that God is not able to do this. It seems he is only capable of providing small unclear bits and pieces of direction, while allowing His people to walk in darkness for years and years, only to provide a few more unclear bits and pieces of direction which are still not accurate enough.
Surely, God in all his wisdom, would desire and ensure that his organization was 100 percent accurate all the time, as to make it dependable, credible and believable to all makind. I personally know that if i owned a news company, i would strive to ensure my organization was rigorously accurate and transparent as to gain credibility with the public.
What we see though, is an organization which as zero accuracy and therefore also zero credibility. And we are to believe that God will punish us humans for not believing in it?
do witnesses really want to go to the meetings?
or do they just go because they feel they must to get into the new world.
or is it just peer pressure or pressure of elders?
I remember i absolutely loved it when a meeting was cancelled or i was "sick" and couldn't make it.
Obviously most JWs go because they feel it's their obligation and that Jehovah is counting on them to be there. It is truly one of the best parts of leaving the organization - the fact that i don't have to attend the meetings and instead enjoy some time in the evening at home and not having to waste my time on sunday mornings doing field service.
with all the control they want to have over people's lives, i wonder if going brazilian down there (male or female) would be cause for readjustment???
lol i can see sister a telling the elders on sister b ... lol... i wonder what scriptures they would use to make their point across ... i know that for non-jw this would sound totally crazy but as an ex-jw i know that this is totally possible ....
I remember when i was in, i knew at least 2 "sisters" that did it, and didn't have much issue talking about it.
I never heard anybody making a stink about it.
in my quest to try to reason with a few people close to me i thought of the perfect illustration as to why we should examine our beliefs against whats printed in the wt or on the jw website.. granted, because of the blinders they were on able to accept any part of what i was saying but to any "non-believer" that i have used this with has understood perfectly.
so it may be worth a shot to try it out.. .

Common logic is not enough to convince brainwashed members. The concept that God is leading the organization supercedes any other reasonings. A good way to understand this, is the fact even when a Jehovah Witness admits that the organization is wrong on many things, they will usually say " Well, it's ok. I"m sure Jehovah will fix it in due time"
