As i slowly move away from the idea that there is no God, i'm realizing also that there are no spirits or ghosts.

The insistence of the human mind in believing things without any evidence typically causes people to see things where there is nothing to be seen.

How many times have we seen on TV, hundreds of people worshipping a piece of toast, or a strangely-shaped cloud while fully proclaiming they see the image of the virgin mary, and thus surely it's a sign from God?

Why is this any different from the many others who claim that a creaking floor board, or a flickering light, or a strange shadow in the dimly-lit hallway, or a light breeze in the kitchen, is irrefutable proof that ghosts exist??

When your mind wants to believe in something, your eyes and ears might follow right behind. I would gladly volunteer to sleep in the most haunted house in the world, and i'm pretty sure that nothing strange would happen, because i'm not looking for anything strange.

about a week ago, i posted that my sister in law believes the earthquake in china is proof that there are more earthquakes today than before.

i posted the details that i sent her that show hands down that there is no increase in earthquakes.

and i also posted that she never replied.

My indoctrinated mother believes that you cannot cut your hair after eating, or take a shower.

She also believes that when you die, the government looks over all your expenses related to national healthcare, and takes your assets to repay itself.

Ahhh the delusion...

MIL letter to my wife

background: my wife and i are inactive, we stopped attending in 2005. raised as jws, were pioneers, i was elder etc... .

our kids are in college, also inactive but are baptised.

my wife went back to college, getting her degree this month at age 48!

I can be wrong here, but this doesn't look to me like a "We won't talk to you because you don't go to meetings" decision. If i can read between the lines, it seems this is a " We won't talk to you, because you're not giving us enough attention".

In either case, it's not easy.

If you still believe in God, why not make it clear that you still love Jehovah, but are fully convinced that the Watchtower society is not God's organization. And why should you be a member of a religion which is not serving Jehovah? This argument completely throws off my mother, when she tries to preach to me.

my son grew up with one of the young brothers in the kingdom and after graduation both him and my son left the kh.

the young man who left the hall fell into the wrong crowd and i mean a really dangerous crowd and as a result of him getting involved in illegal activity he was murdered.

i really feel for this young man, because he was a decent kid.

Amazing how they can turn something which should be heartfelt and personal, into just another self-boasting demonstration.

I'm surprised they didn't manage to squeeze an annoucement about remembering to hand in the monthly reports during the eulogy.

could a person get into trouble w/ the wtbs if he were caught leaving behind copies of the secret elders manual in laundromats and hospital waiting rooms?

Depends.. How did this imaginary person get the book? If nothing illegal was done to obtain the book (stealing), then no crime has been committed.

Regarless of the scope of usage that the Watchtower assigns to the book, it is still only a book published by a religious organization, but it must fall in your hands in a legal way.

Now will this person be in trouble in other ways? clearly yes.

now i am going to do a rear thing here and i am going to stick up for the wts.

i realise that the wts hasn't got the best of track record, and sure they have made mistakes.

but if i was to go to another church wouldn't they still have the same issues.

"a) I'm yet to be convinced that it's an "evil" congregation " ....and " b)I also know that by holding dissenting opinions I risk one day being outed and DF'd as apostate" in the same breath makes no sense.

It is because of this typical mindset that thousands upon thousands of active JWs continue to associate despite seeing the evident errors of the Watchtower society.

The insistence that if you want to serve God and be a christian, you have no choice but to shop around for a group of humans who bought a building to meet, and call themselves a church.

This need not be. Afterall, a religion (or denomination) is simply a man who thought his interpretation of the bible was better and got people to start following him. Under this scenario, how would any of these groups be completely correct? Clealy none is.

The idea that in order to serve God, you must do it in a church, is as true as saying that breakfast has to be in a bowl.

However, many like the idea of going to church. The issue then, knowing that none is totally accurate, is finding one that doesn't force you to conform to every single belief, but instead allows you to enjoy christian association while conceding that you may have your own understanding on many things.

And this is why mainstream christian churches while flawed like all the others, are reasonably good to be a part of. They don't force you to believe anything, and allow you to have healthy association with other God fearing people.

tropical peru is home to ice formations 18,000 feet up in the quelccaya region, the largest of these tropical region ice sheets.. the glacier is melting so quickly that plant samples are having to be frozen artifically so that scientists 30 years from now can have something to study, lonnie thompson from the university said in the interview.

the ice field is the smallest it has been since the last ice age.. peruvians rely on the water from the glaciers, which will be reduced by 50% in their lifetime.

The planet is warmer in general and especially at the both poles. But is seems reasonable to think that along with periodic ice ages, there are periodic "warm ages" as well. This is well in line with the way everything is cyclical in nature.

How can anyone who is truly spiritual-minded attend Bethel and not realize it's all a scam

not that i was any better(lol - but as i sat back and thought about the time i spent there, and the things i saw i feel disgusted.. i could literally write a thousand stories about the discrimination, favortism and all out dishonest that took place but i doubt anyone would actually care.

the one thing however that really sticks out in my mind is when i was in a nice room with my roommate that he kind of inherited after his previous roommate left.

it actually had a bathroom and we both had space for real beds(not those dang trundle beds like we had in standish).. .

It's no wonder that if you walk around Brooklyn Heights on a friday or saturday night, like i did a few weeks ago, you see plenty of lil groups of young bethelites walking in their apartment buildings with plenty of liquor filled paper bags. Something has to give..
