he had a phone call today inviting him for an interview.. i'm kind of in shock.
when we left 10 years ago, i was so upset after.
I am so grateful that "someone" up there heard our prayers.
Interestingly enough, there are probably another 5 million people around the world that also prayed to God to be able to move and absolutely nothing happened.
If this is the product of divine intervention, then why even apply for the job at all? God doesn't need you help. So you could probably just sit home and wait for a company to call you and offer you a job.

It's practicly impossible to conciliate these unless you pretty much re-invent christianity and come up with a version of your own. If the bible says "The sky is blue", but you interpret this as "the Sky is pink", then what's the point? You are frabricating a new reality to be more self serving.

Forget supporting. I'm pretty sure tolerating would be enough. The expression "live and let live" is the true issue here.
Same sex relationships are unatural as they can't lead to reproduction. Basing a law on that undeniable fact does not make a person ignorant.
This very statement is ignorant. It makes as much sense as saying that there should be a law
against people with a third nipple because it's not really natural. There is reasonable evidence to suggest that being gay is at least partially motivated by genetic conditions. With that in mind, it makes sense that they are allowed to live dignified lives.

it might just be because of the kind of character i am, whatever, i never was able to overcome that feeling of dread every time i went door-to-door.
i felt aware of how much people disliked having strangers cold-calling trying to sell them something.

This in reality is the real issue and why it becomes hard to reason with active JWs. The doctrine, history and evolution of the organization is barely important anymore - in fact, most JWs barely know anything about it and don't care to know, and so it's a losing battle debating on those issues.
What they know is that they belong to an organization which they perceive to be clean and loving, so how could it not be the truth?
JWs refuse to go to war. They are the ones who are preaching the most. They are the ones who seemingly don't tolerate loose conduct inside the brotherhood. They are the only ones who don't vote, which they perceive to be bad. They are the only who use the name of Jehovah in everything they do.
They see an organization which in their minds protects them and give them a sense of direction, and this is essential for people who have the type of personality where they have a need to be led.
recently, a public speaker brought up this point that i remembered being preached in the 70's.
when they bring this matter up, they always manage to give you an experience of how one person stood his ground, and got a great job offer, as a result.. what about the many experiences of ones that were not blessed?
i can memtion horror stories of ones that should have kept working their meetings..
Requiring the rank and file to put their secular job on the bottom of the priorities effectively ensures that they will never grow in their careers (which is the plan anyway). It also ensures that if there is ever a need for lay-offs in the company, the name of Brother Zealous will the the first on the list to be "canned". Then once brother Zealous gets canned and needs money to eat, the Org will do nothing to help, and not a single penny is dedicated to help brothers in need.
It also prevents brother Zealous to have a desire for higher education.
When i left the Org, i put my energy on the things i had left including my job. I worked extra, and volunteered for things and my supervisor noticed it. He came to me one day and commended me for it, and told me he would like to promote me, but that i would be hard without a college degree. This motivated me to go to college.

I agree. For the most part, the world is getting better by the day. Yes, there is more crime, and there is more pollution but those are a direct result from population explosion.
If somehow mankind in general was able to implement good family planning with the goal of reducing world population, where maybe we could reduce it by 1/3 or even 1/2, the quality of life in general would be greatly improved.
But even "as is", i would not trade living now for any other time in human history. And most JWs who complain about "the world" would not trade that either, if they had some honest reflection about it.

i do, and i hate it.
people (mostly my brother) tells me to not fear death and just to enjoy life and so on, but that doesn't seem to help any.
I have to say that i fear death more now than what i did in the past. Just like you, because i'm realizing that there is nothing after death, it makes me value life much more and makes me sad that there will be nothing after this.
I think that people in general have a hard time accepting this and are in complete denial which in turn makes them embrace all sorts of beliefs about a life after death. WHen i was a JW i believed that if i died for whatever reason (accident, illness, etc) that it wouldn't be so terrible because i would be ressurected in paradise and that gave me comfort.
I now realize that it will never happen. This is IT. This is all we have and we better make the most of it. It makes me sad that i will not get to see the great things that will be invented as mankind moves foward. That i will never have time to learn everything i wanted to learn and enjoy.
Life, and this planet are truly amazing, and it almost seems unfair that we are here for only a speck of time. I often make an analogy to life being like a fantastic train full of good things, and we are only allowed to jump on board for only a few stations and then forced off - never to jump on again.

in a nutshell, the scheme is this: after determining that a complete kingdom hall remodel will cost the congregation $100,000.00, the regional building committee arbitrarily inflates the estimate to $250,000.00, fleecing the congregation and misappropriating the additional funds for other purposes.
Just finished listening to it. As others just said, since he leaves a lot of details out, it's hard to fully understand what happened.
What is really confusing is the fact that he believes that the organization itself knows nothing about this scam - but that makes no sense. He makes it seem as if the people who profit from this are part of the RBC, but if that is the case, then how is the body of elders replaced if they don't agree? The RBC does not have the power to do this, only the service dept in bethel can replace bodies of elders. Also, once the scam is finalized, payments are made to the organization itself, not the RBC so again, how do they profit from it?
Then we are to believe that in all of these instances where this has happened, no word has gotten to bethel about this? The CO never became aware of this?
Give me a break! The organization is well aware of this and allowing it to happen - no doubt about it. Yes it is a scam to make money off the congregation members, but perpetrators are the ones who are benefitting from it - the organization and it's leadership.
Also, this is happening in different regions of the country and the world, so logically it excludes the possibility of one crooked regional committee.

You make great points, but the issue is that most JWs are not open (sometimes not able) to think logically or objectively about this subject. You can come up with as many great points as you wish, but most times they will simply say " but the bible says abstain...".
Like a little kid who doesn't want to listen to reason by covering their ears, they refuse to allow themselves to think critically and just repeat the same thing.
They don't care about context, backstory, historical perpective, social perspective, original concept or anything else that you are using here. What they care about is that the bible says " ... abstain from blood" . They are confortable with the "dumbed down" command.

even when i was dyed-in-the-wool j-dub, i felt the armageddon teaching was one of the most morbid concepts to be hammered into the psyches of jws.
think about it, only jws would survive this catastrophe, which translates to roughly .001 percent of the population would survive while everyone else would die a horrible death.
that includes people who do good things and are good people, but are just not jws.
JWS don't think of the implications associated with a world where everybody else just died except them They simply don't. All they think about is the pretty pink images in the magazines where you see a big BBQ with everybody smiling in a grassy hill surrounded by flowers with a leopard and a sheep playing together in the background. It's surreal.
Even the job of cleaning up all of the dead bodies is somehow delegated to the wild beasts of the world, who somehow will have to eat 7 Billion dead bodies before they decompose to the point they become a health hazard.
When this happens, who is going to run all of the systems that JWs depend on? Water, electricity, gas, etc? Who will run the power plants? Angels?
with supermarkets now empty, where is food going to come from? I'm willing to bet that close to no JWs know enough about food growing. Is Jehoober going to make food rain from the sky?
