Is the U.N. preparing to attack Religion

about 5 minutes ago i get an article emailed to me from my mother telling me that i need to find a way to get back to jehovah and his saving arm... she read an article in a reputable newspaper that all the friends are using to show that its not just jehovahs witnesses who see religion about to get attacked by the u.n.. it concludes with a link to the article and her desire for me to please read it in light of my recent situation.. .

What possible reason would the UN have to do this? Actually, what possible reason would a government have to do this as well?

Governments are not in the business of being unpopular - this is why governments slowly become more and more inclusive. You can see this for example in the moves by governments to legalize gay marriage and pot smoking. The only governments who can get away with making religion illegal are dictatorships because they know the people have no choice in the matter. So before religion becomes illegal in the US for example, we'll have to see the country become a dictatorship. I'll wait for that to happen first before i worry about religion.

2 J dubs at my door this morning .

my wife and i are presently interstate house sitting for a freind , and this morning 2 jw`s called unexpectedly of course .

after their introducing themselves.

they offered the invitation to the memmorial which i rejected , then let him present his spiel , nothing has changed by the way .. i had them their for about an hour , i`m on holidays nothing better to do this morning except keep them away from other doors .and of course they were prepared to stay.

Good stuff. It's been my experience that JWs don't know anything about the organization aside from the basic teachings and what is on the latest Watchtower magazines. It's quite remarkable the lack of knowledge they have about themselves. It is this ignorance that keeps the blissful thought bubble going. I just don't understand how any JW wouldn't at least look up information about a weird topic raised during field serve-us. I'm pretty sure that if i was stll an active witness and someone mentioned something about a UN scandal, i would look it up as soon as i got home - even if i pretended not to believe it in front of the home owner.

It's not. But it's made by the guy in the video. So this documentary is made by JWs, even if it's not the WT.

This person (Benny) has a photography, video, and art production company, and just decided to make a video of himself on service - probably to try to promote his company.

He obviously wasn't even paying attention when in the beginning of the video he puts the web address of his website www.bennyficialart.com when that url is not registered. The real website is www.beneficialart.com

Perhaps he put the wrong url on purpose because he didn't want anybody to see some of the "suggestive" art he has on his website. I wonder if some of his semi-naked art drawings would be well received in the congregation!!

China, is a cash rich country, so in that sense they are an economic power. But in itself doesn't make it a great country. China is years away from being at the level of the US and other developed countries.

The article (or blog i should say) states: "Most likely, China will eventually match the U.S. in per capita income terms as well. With a population about four times as large as America’s, that would imply a massive shift in the global balance of power."

Most likely? pull out a chair for that one. China doesn't have a middle class like the US. Yes their workers are willing to work for pennies per hour to assemble tchotchkes that americans can afford to buy, but these people live in poverty. There isn't a social infrastructure set up, and their growth was so rapid that they have no standards or regulations to keep up with the growth. Their people live in poverty, while businessmen get richer, and they have no regards for their resources while they continue to pollute their environment with unregulated production.

Could they walk any slower on the ministry(tm)?

i was out in my car this saturday as i went to visit my friend.. i saw the jws scattered about mooching down the streets.. i arrived home in a different area to where my friend lives.

as i opened my door there was an invitation to the mock the christ ritual.

a group of jws mooched past my house, looked at me rather lethargically and carried on mooching along.. considering they don't know i'm an 'apostate(tm)', they certainly were in no hurry to beg me to come to their mock the christ charade considering that if i don't go jar-hoover will lovingly murder me soon (subject to overlapping(tm) ).. i know we had 'the pioneer walk(tm)' back in the day but puh-leeeeeeeze!

I recall not too long ago, walking by one of my windows and seeing JWs across the street on a Sunday morning, so i stopped and observed them. They were walking super slow and yapping away about something, then they stopped between houses and continued talking. While they were talking my neighbor, which was the next house they were heading to, left the house with his family and packed some stuff in the trunk of his car.

The JWs continue to talk while my neighbor and his family packed his trunk, then got in their car and left, totally ignored by the JWs. Once the JWs finished talking, they slowly walked to the house and proceeded to ring the door as if they expected anybody to be home. They stayed at the door several minutes talking, then slowly walked to the next home.

"urgent work" was never done so slow in the history of urgent work.

Anybody have experience selling on Ebay or Amazon?

there are a few collectibles i am wanting to sell.

my concern is that if i accept payment w/ credit card, etc, that i ship the item and they either open it (destroying the value), or just lie about not getting it, or any other thing to cause ebay/amazon to chargeback.

i was wondering if anybody sells on them is there a protection for sellers and how often does that type of thing happen?

I sell all the time. Most of the protection that ebay offers is towards the buyer, for natural reasons. So yes you can get screwed. One time i sold an iphone, outside the country and the buyer claimed he never received it, so ebay refunded him my money.

You need to protect yourself by insuring the value of the item with whoever you ship it with. So if the buyer claims he never received it, although you need to refund, you can still get your money back.

I'm sure that ebay monitors for buyers who claim they don't receive items and they may act if there is a pattern, but usually you just have to refund the money.

she grew up a very happy jw, and to leave is very hard for her.

That's right. Satan made them start eating wood. Also, animals only became carnivores after the flood. So before the flood, cheetahs for example used their perfectly adapted bodies to chase after cauliflowers. ;)

it seems that genesis is chock full of goodies to make yhwh look less than the loving, impartial, fair god so many think they worship.. here is another one i just thought of.. yhwh decides to turn lot's wife into a mound of salt for the horrible crime of "looking back" toward her home.

this is brought up often by jws who use the story to tell jws not to look at the things behind.. we all know god is consistent and never changes so compare what happens later.. lots daughters cannot seem to find any man around so they conspire two nights in a row to get their father drunk, and have sex with him two nights in a row.

Is it all about the money?

often on this forum there are posts about how the gb are obsessed with money and some people here often suggest this impacts every decision the gb makes i.e.

on my holiday thread it was suggested jws aren't allowed to celebrate holidays as it means spending money on presents that they want for themselves.. i however, do not think this is at all true.

the society rarely talks about money and as a percentage of income i think the vast majority of jws contribute a very small amount simply because the society rarely talk about it.. obviously money is important to the society in the sense that they couldn't run a major organisation without it, so they have to ask for it at times and factor it in to some of their decision making, but actually the gb live quite frugally and seem to worry much more about clinging to their authority and power than getting rich.. my controversial suggestion of the day is that saying the gb are obsessed with money must make us look silly to lurkers.. what does the jwn intellegentsia think then?.

The Watchtower society just like any other corporation has periodic reports and dashboards to measure growth and performance and revenue is definietely one of the key indicators. No,it's not all about money, but it's still a key indicator.

Since the GB is not really profiting from the revenue, it's probably not very important to them, and they are likely more interested in prestige and power, but remember that the Watchtower Society corporate structure is not the same as the Christian Congregation of Jehovah Witnesses.

The CCJW is all about doing Jehoober's work, that's the fairytale corporation. The WTBTS is the business side, they care about money and growth. In fact, that's probably all they care about. You don't think they have a say in which policies will drive financial growth? I do. I think the team in charge of the financial affairs of the WT pushes for policies that will drive economic growth.
