As a Catholic, I'm taught that God created the Big Bang and that evolution was God's way of developing humans.
At least that's a better attempt at reconciling facts with fiction.

Question about dinosaurs, prehistoric creatures, and the eventual appearance of humans.
by pronomono inso i was watching shark week a little while ago and i got to the episode on prehistoric sharks.
they, of course, discussed megalodon, but they also talked about other sharks that were vicious, precise hunters.
then i started thinking about other prehistoric creatures..... t-rex, raptors, etc...... all vicious animals.

I know this is never going to happen ....however , what if ...?
by smiddy incan you imagine what this world would be like today , with 7 billion people , if their were never , ever a religous concept in anybodys mind ?.
wouldnt this world be such a better place to be in if it was devoid of all religion ?.
if religion never existed from the time man/woman first walked the earth until now how do you see , pros or cons , how humakind would fare today.. as i said in my o.p.

What do you mean "never going to happen"?. What is "never"? if "never" is the next 100 years, or even the next 1000 years, perhaps that is true. But I firmly believe that as time advances, the trend for people to continue to move away from religion will grow. There is no doubt in my mind that assuming that mankind can survive the next 10000 or 20000 years, religion will be a thing of the past.

Today's "gay-bashing" and other embarrassing content public talk!

started (completely left field too...seemed to come out of nowhere) with condemning homosexuality, and anyone who even tolerates it.
if you like tv shows or movies with gay characters, you are "just as bad" (eg modern family tv show).

My comment was not necessarily to "defend the Bible" per se, but to point out that things were different thousands of years ago, and something that would have been totally understood by people who lived in Bible times is now being misunderstood and twisted in order to justify prejudice against a particular group...i.e. God hates homosexuals and destroyed two cities because of homosexuality, which is patently false.
A snipet of information from a website of a person who has an agenda to prove that homosexuality is not a sin. Not impressed.
It seems obvious to me that the men who wrote the bible, being part of a homophobic society, would comdemn homosexuality as being a sin, in the same manner that since they were of a misogynistic society, they also use the bible to put women in their place. This is not about how God feels, it's about how the bible was used to advance their thoughts.

by moley inthis always bothered me.. so the dust finally settles and your glad your still alive, so the first thing you do is phone your family and friends to see if their ok. no signal.
ok i'll drive to the kingdom hell to find out what to do.
driving past all the dead bodies you realise your almost out of petrol, stop at the garage cannot get fuel as there is no power.

Who really needs TV, Bluray, Playstation, Automobile, Planes, Designer clothes, nice restaturants, Movie Theaters, Fresh exotic food from all over the planet at the supermarket, Air conditioning, Laptops, Iphones, IPads, etc, that this current "horrible" world provides us?
What we really need is to sit in our front porch all day, scratching our nuts and watching a cheetah play with a sheep.

some are not sure.. i was told recently by a friend to pray to god for help and he would comfort me.. my first impulse is to pray.

Why not pray to the Sun instead? No, i'm not joking entirely. At least by praying to the Sun, the confort that it provides you is more palpable. When you get up in the morning and you step outside, you can actually see the Sun. It comforts you with its warmth, it helps you grow food that you need, it makes you feel better by giving you a nice sunny day. Along with all of this, the good news is that when you pray to the Sun, your prayers will get answered at the same 20 percent rate as if you pray to god, so it's really a win-win situation.

you realize that they were NOT homosexuals and their intent was NOT sexual gratification, but rather an act to exert power over the new guys in town by humiliating them and causing them to submit to the men of the city.
Oh really? it would never occur to me to go and have sex with another guy in order to "Try to humiliate him". What nonsense. The lengths that people go to, in order to defend the bible.
How about just admitting that the bible is an idiotic book that is clearly anti-gay, simply because it was written by an ancient middle eastern society who was clearly homophobic, just as it is today? Isn't that much more intellectually honest than to come up with creative interpretations of something that is pretty clear to everybody?

When i left the Watchtower society, i promised myself that I would never believe in something simply because it sounds wonderful, or because i'm supposed to believe in it. I'm not sure if any of you adopted this same approach, by I thought after so many years of believing nonsense, it would help me safeguard against fallacies.
With this in mind, how can I believe in the after life? There is no evidence of it, and there isn't any logic either, so it all amounts to wishful thinking and a conforting thought to help you cope with the inevitability of mortality.

she left with tears in her eyes and never returned.. for the last 50 years denim jeans have been banned at the brooklyn bethel breakfast table.. i understand denim jeans are banned even by tourists visiting beth ell.
billy explained the pants situation in past posts.. so my questions are: what other instances are there of denim bans by watchtower ?

I think it's about image and about wearing professional attire. For example in my company, I can't wear jeans except on Fridays which is dress down day. Part of the business model of the Watchtower is that publishers need to present themselves as salesmen do; I think it's been like that since the early days.
But interestingly skirts which are made of denim are not viewed the same way as jeans. Most professional places are ok with nice skirts made of denim.

particularly when it comes to the animals.

One of things that never made at sense to me when i was in... How is the animal population going to be controlled? Right now, there is a food chain that keeps an ecosystem balanced. Predations helps maintain animal population at a manageable and reasonable level. What happens once this stops?

If "The Feast" of the RC is so vitally important for every JW to consume.........
by Darth Fader The Sequel in....... then why wouldn't the wtbt$ easily make the entire program, complete with rockstar gb's, cheesy dramas, etc, available on youtube or some other free or almost free web streaming service?
obviously it is a huge burden for a majority of the "friends" to attend a regional convention and many either cannot go or it takes all of our their funds (or borrowed funds) to be able to make it.
how about all the "friends" that are morbidly obese, infirm, have extreme health conditions, have unbelieving mates, or have mental issues which prevent them from attending a convention?

Why not just announce the link from stage?
Yes, there really is no conceivable reason to why they are restricting this. The conventions themselves are open to the public, why not do the same with the recording of them? Shouldn't the goal be to reach as many people as possible with it, and not this members-only concept?
This need to control everything is exhausting.
