i am genuinely curious.

after all i was a jobo 50 years and thought the wbt$ was 100% correct.. i ask this because i see that, for example, christian denominations (or whatever), likely have differing interpretations of the same writing.

He does and I hope he wins, instead of crazy Warren, or even Sanders who sit on the extreme left in comparison.

Bloomberg was a good mayor in NYC, and he is a no nonsense manager. I recall one of the things he did at city hall as mayor was to remove high wall cubicles, because a lot of employees were slacking off at the job, and this would increase accountability.

He is a smart, no nonsense guy, and above hall he is moderate, not like the extreme left crazies like Warren and others. The democratic establishment absolutely does not want Bloomberg to be elected, because he does not play the agenda pushing game of the left.

I hope he wins. We need someone again in the white house that knows a little more about the world than eating fast food and watching himself on TV. Bloomberg would not be an embarrassment to our country like the orange agent.

Yeah this was the first mistake. Why have this format, where you gather several JWs in a room to engage on what will likely be a debate? Even if you were making sense on those points, they will not want to concede in front of their peers. You should have a more casual one on one with them.

Anyway, the thing that pisses me off the most, is that they want us to just be inactive so they can keep talking to us.

Yes and they are probably right about this. What is the value of disassociating? By doing that, you are just validating their own governance policy and their rules. You should recognize that their process for disassociating is as ridiculous as everything else about their religion. Just walk away and be done with it.

others have not been so praiseworthy toward the california congressman.. today he was so concerned that trump might be so emboldened now that he has won acquittal, that he suggests that trump might make a deal with russia and sell them the state of alaska.

so a few things .... apparently it's superbowl 54, and also the centennial of the sport.

erm ... i'm not a mathematician, but aren't there 46 superbowls missing?.

americans claim that uk sport ("soccer", aka real football) is too low scoring.

International football (soccer) takes the angle that if someone touches you, you fall down and grab some part your body and look like you need to get to the emergency room of the nearest hospital.

I tend to agree here. The level of injury fakery in soccer these days is really laughable. I'm not sure how you stop it, perhaps show more yellow cards to the ones who exaggerate the most.

Yup and this is how you know this God of the bible is not a genius. What kind of an idiot, would bring devastation to the planet in order to kill a few million humans, when a handful of the angels (from among gzillions of them sitting around going nothing), could have accomplished that in one night.

How Can Football (Soccer) Teams Allow Their Players to Participate in "Friendlies?"

i could never understand how the best football (soccer) players are allowed to participate in these things called friendlies.

aren't the teams and owners afraid of losing their investments of 10's of millions of dollars (euros) to injury?

and it appears that teams just make up their own schedules.. in american football, there is no possible way a team would allow an extra game.

To get 65,000 for a pre-season football game in the US you could have a half-time with show with both Shikira and J-Lo pole dancing in the nude and I still don't think you would fill the stadium if the game didn't mean anything.

Well and the only reason why you get 65,000 to watch Chile vs Peru is because of immigrants would will drive from far to get to watch a rare appearance by their home country team.

Friendlies are a way to get revenue and promote soccer. The US has become a big destination for friendlies because the high ticket prices they charge. If Real Madrid, Man U, Barca, etc etc come to the US, they can fill a stadium with high price tickets, many over $100 to watch a game that means nothing.

Ehh, those noises are dissipating fast. Soccer has been a fast growing sport and continues to be in the US. I remember in the 90's, if you wanted to watch World Cup games or Euros, or even European leagues, you had to go to a bar with satellite TV, or pay per view in some cases.

There were no soccer fields around to play, no premier league on TV, only one Italian league game on Sundays on the Italian channel.

Now there is an avalanche of soccer and interest in it. Major networks show it, all competitions, all the major leagues. There is growing domestic leagues. Tons of soccer fields everywhere, and lots of interest from youngsters. Also tons of social leagues, where you can compete for fun. I play in one myself.

US is large enough where you can have multiple major sports. American FB will continue to be number one for years to come, but I would not be surprised if soccer becomes top 3 soon.

First Proper Chat With the JWs in Almost 11 Years

since disassociating in october 2008, i've had little to no direct contact with the jws, apart from immediate family members (ie my parents).

i've lived in my rented flat since may 2014 and haven't had a knock on the door in that whole time.

Great read. I really like to read about experiences with speaking to JWs.

In my experience of talking to them when they come over, they have a narrow scope for a basis of conversation.

They first assume that you believe in God, and next they assume that you believe the bible is true. From that starting point, their training is really geared around convincing you their interpretation is better, as opposed to other christian sects. It's always been like that since the beginning of the Washtowell.

The moment you take it a step back, and claim are you not convinced God exists and that you don't believe the bible is the word of God, their entire baseline is demolished. All of sudden, reading verses from the bible is pointless, since you don't believe in it. What to do? They usually look completely disarmed, perhaps making a tepid argument that revolves around "how did everything come to exist", or "who created everything", as if that helps them in any way.

I usually ask ... "Why do you think the Bible is true?", which really gives them a hard time. Typically they resort to bible prophecies which easily can be made to look silly, when you point how vague they are
