My wife and I have begun our fade
by James Jack ini haven’t posted in awhile.
my wife asked me after the year 2000 came and went without fanfare(because the wt organization said all the “new world” would be here within this 20th century would end), “ what would it take for you to leave the truth?”.
my reply was “ if i turn 60 in this “system of things”.

I too, as a born in, never considered my own mortality, until just after I left I was having a chat with an XJW lady, and she threw in the remark that " We all have to die".
That shocked me rigid, but I knew she was right. From then on I began to think seriously about it, eventually became comfortable with the thought, and happy I was no longer deluded. I also learned to live each day to the full, and to take real control of my life's direction. I could no longer wait for god to do his bit.
We do only have the one life, but we can make it a good one, live it to the full, and really enjoy it.

Racism is difficult to define, but the comments must have been bad enough to make you feel they simply were not right. I would do as Cofty says, get clear in my own mind what real Racism really is, explain that to my kid, and also explain that ways of talking about people are sometimes not acceptable, even if they don't come from a thoroughly 100% racist viewpoint.
I do not agree with the Poster who said your daughter has to respect points of view, or even use of language, which are simply wrong. People can have their opinions, and use the words they choose, but we do not have to respect anything that does not deserve such respect.
It isn't though, up to a 9 year old to challenge them outright, you may encourage her to simply say something like " That isn't a nice thing to say" , or to simply keep quiet, but be aware that the words are simply wrong.
Family ties are important, but as with any relationship, if they become toxic, it is time to limit contact. Don't overreact, but work hard to form your daughters own opinions along the right lines.

I was in my fifties when I walked away, little in the way of retirement planning, and huge debt, which got worse, as my business relied upon JW customers, I never got any more business from them !
I did not know how Mrs Phizzy would react, like me, she was born in. I was lucky, her loyalty and love for me was greater than that for the org. Although her journey away from the mental hold the org has was slower than mine, our marriage survived, and is now stronger than ever. We survived financially too, now we are far from well off, but able to weather the storm that will be the economic disaster from Brexit which is shaping up right now.
I tell you my story to give you hope and courage. Your wife is with you, and some family too, you are young enough to make a new life.
Enjoy the wonderful freedom that leaving gives you, the freedom to be the real You ! I wish you and yours all the best for the future !

Do you have dark tinted windows on your vehicle?
by Iamallcool inif you have one, do cops stop you to make sure it is not too dark?
.

Phizzy
I never liked the tinted ones, really dark, even if only on the rear of a vehicle, it always made me think the vehicle was being driven by a drug dealer.
Here in the U.K there are so few Police about, especially on the roads that you can get away with anything.

If you speak against the Governing Body you will be punished.
by punkofnice inthis was a comment from the meeting(tm) on sunday.. the person that told me about it, is very confused about the validity of the corporation.
somewhere between a pimo and a pimi-lite.
the thing that angered me was that this person has cancer.

Christians are supposed to be ruled over by Christ. The old adage applies " See who you cannot criticise, and you will see who rules over you".
The Governing Body have claimed the place that should belong only to Christ.

Outcast Doctrines
by Socrateswannabe inin a recent post about the watchtower’s claim that all animals were created as vegetarians, one commenter said that watchtower could no longer sustain this belief so they simply stopped talking about it.
i began thinking about other wacky doctrines and statements by the borg that have faded away.
i’ll offer two of them below, but the complete list must be longer than your arm.. 7000 year-long creative days: watchtower once taught that each of the creative days was 7,000 years in duration, hence the hype leading up to 1975. they believed that year marked 6,000 years since adam’s creation, and oh how nicely the 1,000-year reign would fit as the last piece of the puzzle, thus completing the final “day”.
-
Phizzy
The other belief they don't seem to mention these days was one that was around until the late seventies, perhaps a bit later, and that was that in the Noo System eventually marriage will come to an end.
I think this was another Mad Freddie Franz idea maybe. When Mrs Phizzy and I were married, all those years ago, we were prevailed upon to still have as part of our Vows, " ....... or until ended by God's arrangement " or whatever the wording was. We wanted that phrase dropped, but were persuaded by the old boy taking our Service that it was a "good witness", that non JW's might ask what it meant. Rubbish of course, no one ever did.

Flood over everest
by road to nowhere inmeeting part comment on how the flood covered everest.
that is even more ignorant than mountains being pushed up and eroding in a few thousand years.
and it wasnt cold either.. i should have commented on the bristlecone in the awake that survived the flood.

The problem with the idea of a local flood, if extensive from the writers point of view, is that it does not fit with the Org's beloved " Bible Chronology ", there was no such flood anywhere near the time that the Genesis story is supposed to be set.
No doubt various cultures experienced quite devastating floods, which gave rise to the various flood myths, the fact that the Noah story and the number of other flood stories from around the middle east are so similar, bespeaks of a folk memory of a really bad flood, way way before the time of Noah. Maybe of when the Med. broke through to the Black Sea ?

Just something that comes to mind about the "Cross" business. Jehovah allowed the Romans to kill Jesus, no interference, so why should he interfere with the common Roman way of Public execution ?
Arguing that the Cross was a Pagan Symbol is simply nonsense, that would mean that every piece of wood, whatever its use, if it had a crosspiece, was a pagan symbol. What nonsense.
The further argument that the Church should not use it because had Jesus been hung, would you venerate a Rope, or if shot, a Gun, is nonsense too, the Church uses it as a symbol of the meaning of Christs death, as an aid memoir.

There is another plant that "survived" the Flood, called Kings Lomatia, it is a fresh water plant, and could not survive being in even mildly saline water. It has been around for more than 40,000 years, and the way it propagates itself means that the plant we see today, is, literally the same plant that was around 40,000 years ago.
Another problem with the idea of the waters covering the highest mountain, is that if I remember right, there simply is not enough water on the Planet to do that ??
The Flood story is total myth, borrowed from much earlier Flood stories, in many small details.
