MICKEY SPILLANE and MIKE HAMMER novels (A tough guy JW back in the good old days of Knorr)
by Terry inspillane, mickey spillane.
he pulled no punches and his pen was as fast as his gun.
after all, it took almost three whole weeks for mickey to type his first novel.

I was born in the '50's, and can't remember exactly when I first started reading mickey Spillane books, I just know that I had never read anything as fast-paced, exciting and hard-boiled. Looking through the list of Titles, I have read a lot of them ! obviously all the ones I could get my hands on at the time.
I remember at School we had an unofficial Library among us guys, and we would lend each other "good" books, by "good", we meant raunchy, violent and thrilling. Another writer about the time, doing similar stuff, was Hank Jansen. A British writer, the Titles of his books were more Racy than the content !
One book that one guy sold me at School, rather than lend it to me, was a copy of John Clelands "Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure" also known as "Fanny Hill". This was mired in a Court case at the time, early 1960's, and this enterprising lad had bought several hundred copies direct from the Publisher, and charged a sixpence mark up on the official price, I suspect he had got a discount on the job lot too, but good luck to him ! It sort of became unavailable to the Public for a while, but got published again within short order, but for a while , the joy of owning a Banned Book was great, and it was my first experience of Erotic Literature.
I have read fast paced Thrillers all my life, and I think all the Authors subsequent to Mickey Spillane, writing similar stuff, owe him a debt of gratitude.

Why Jehovah`s Witnesses are wrong emphasising the name Jehovah.
by smiddy3 inhi friends, feel free to correct me where i`m wrong with this post.after all it`s just my observation of jw`s and the bible.. in the beginning of gods dealings with adam it was on a personal level , god to man so to speak.. god then dealt with humans via the patriarchs , then with the levi priesthood ,then judges ,( and a woman was a judge ) then kings ,somewhere in between all of this prophets played a major part ,and then came jesus christ the messiah.. and to my knowledge god has not validated a successor to him with any evidence i`ve seen .. jehovah`s witnesses claim to be christians but have with no new testament backing usurped jesus with jehovah.. this period of time ,until god says otherwise ,christians are to give honour and glory to none other than jesus christ .. that is the name that is above any other name until god says otherwise.
phil.2:9-11. not the name jehovah .the bible never says anything about a kingdom of jehovah ,the coming kingdom is the kingdom of jesus christ with his associate 144,000 earthly subjects.. this is just my understanding of what the bible actually says .. whether i believe it or not is another matter..

For those not familiar with the Shashu people, and the original Yahweh or Jehovah , from Wikik :
" Regarding the name yhw3, Michael Astour observed that the "hieroglyphic rendering corresponds very precisely to the Hebrew tetragrammaton YHWH, or Yahweh, and antedates the hitherto oldest occurrence of that divine name – on the Moabite Stone – by over five hundred years."[7] K. Van Der Toorn concludes: "By the 14th century BC, before the cult of Yahweh had reached Israel, groups of Edomites and Midianites worshipped Yahweh as their god."
Notice the phrase " before the cult of Yahweh had reached Israel " . Our Hebrew/Jewish friends were a little late to the Party, and similar to many peoples, borrowed their god from neighbouring peoples.
This will come as a shock to most JW's.

You are right about not giving the name Jehovah pre-eminence, the first century Christians in all probability did not utter the name, though some will argue about that, and maintain it was written in the N.T, though no manuscript evidence for that exists. The latter point showing to me that the pre-eminence was given to the name of Jesus.
I have noticed a slight lessening of the use of "Jehovah" in print by the Org, or am I imagining that ? But if that is so, it is purely for marketing purposes, as shoving the name into the Public domain does not go down well. The Logo itself, JW Org, does not make it so prominent does it ?
JW Org has always tried to shove Jesus in to the background, especially noticeable in their Meetings, where mention of him is somewhat rare., in comparison to "Jehovah this " and " Jehovah that " and multiple uses of the name in Prayers with Jesus getting a cursory nod at the end.

Languages, Dialects, Accents
by LoveUniHateExams injust though i'd start a thread devoted to languages, dialects/sociolects and accents, with the idea being that posters can comment on any language, or dialect or accent of any language, on this thread.. any phrases, expressions or idioms that you find interesting are also welcome.
first, the subject of english accents came up on another thread.. the british isles have many different types of accent (although many of the dialects may be dying out), and if i start to take a closer look, i can't help but see 'patterns' .... in received pronunciation of standard english, the letter r is pronounced initially, between vowels, and after consonants, e.g.
red, arrow, break.

Interesting ! so, with hieroglyphics there is room for ambiguity and a degree of exegesis has to be used, but seeing the illustration of actual words, it was a useful, practical Script, whereas I always thought of it for some reason as sort of mannered and showing off for religious reasons, but it isn't, it's a workaday script !

The Power Of Unconditional Love
by 1234 inthe most powerful love in the universe is unconditional love.. a love that has no requirements or conditions.
no actions are necessary to receive it.. this love is all around us and can be easily seen.
watch any mother with its new born baby.

" Conditional on the object of our love remaining a decent human being." Real Love does not suddenly flee because the person turns out to be a disappointment, or even a right bastard.
Yes, we may decide to have nothing to do with a toxic person, a criminal etc, but that does not eradicate the love, or it was not real, unconditional love. We impose conditions upon contact or whatever, but the love, if real is still there. Just as the love for a person who has died is still there, even though the person is not.

Leaving the god question aside, as I am an Atheist I am not interested in talking about something that does not exist, but I believe that if what some call Love is "conditional", it is not really Love at all.
Jesus taught a Love that had no conditions, no ifs or buts. He did not say "Love your neighbour, but not if they are not a JW" did he ? The whole point of the Parable of the Good Samaritan was that you should show unconditional love to all, regardless of what or who they are, and within that "all" Jesus included Apostates.
I know JW's will point to various Scriptures written by Paul to justify their hateful treatment of those who have left the JW religion, but Paul was not aware of the actual Teaching of Jesus as outlined in the Gospels, they had not been written by the time he died. Apart form that of course, actually analyse the Scriptures JW's use and they are taking them out of context quite blatantly to apply them in the way they do.
They do not practice the way of true Love.

Upcoming Neutrality Talk Oct 26, 2020
by Listener inthanks petra and atlantis for providing the latest announcements from the watchtower.. they are telling congregations to replace the 15 minute local needs talk in the midweek meeting of october 26th with a talk on neutrality.
i am not sure if this is due to there being a usa election on tues 3rd, november or because of their worldwide preaching campaign targeting government officials.
it does sound like it is due to the usa election due to comments about propaganda and political promises.

The " even mentally" part will be difficult for some JW's LOL. Some are quite definite about their Political views, even though of course they do not actually Vote, and may not acknowledge even to themselves that they are in fact Politically Left or Right or whatever.
I have found since I left , it has been necessary for me to educate myself politically, and in every other way of course, but to understand Politics you need to know how it works, and Political History, and to understand all the Bullshit and Mind Control you get from the Main Stream Media.
I have Voted, at every Election, local and national, since I left, and I have campaigned very actively and loudly for a Political Party, are these considered to be actions warranting a J.C , and some "action" ?? Not that I give a flying fudge bar what they think or do to me personally, but I just wondered.
