The JW Org has some barefaced cheek doesn't it ? dissuades their members from getting an education , then canvasses for those who did to help them out with their Skills Shortage. Surely, logically, such people should not be "in good standing" ? Apart from the rare individual who joined with the skills.

The Watch Tower Generation
by waton init so happens that my grandfather and i share the same birthday; -- this month.
i lived with him from 1930 to ~ 1947. so, following the parenting pattern in our family, he would be born, be alive by ~ 1880, the same age as the "watchtower magazine" , therefore, you could say, we both lived in the wt era, right ?
dare we say we belong to the wt generation,?.

Not one Bible Book was written to be taken totally literally, the Bible is 99% Fiction. There is little "mystery" in it when you read about the Writers' time, thinking, and their motive for writing the Book, or part of a Book , there are at least two authors in Isaiah for example.
When you start taking parts of the Bible literally, you are in deep water. It is like reading a Story about King Arthur, and some of "Merlin's" Prophecies about him, and believing the Story is literal, and the prophecies will come true !

Are we to assume this is genuine ? or will he bounce back saying " I beat Covid Bigly, more Bigly than anyone ever".
This gets him out of one Debate, gets him the sympathy Vote etc. Nothing in 2020 is as it seems, I may be an old cynic, but I am holding fire to see what happens before making a final judgement.

" More so than Zoroastrianism, Judaism is an overlapping series of religions, each of which took from its predecessor and added something new. So, before we compare the antiquity of Judaism with that of Zoroastrianism, we have first to answer which ‘Judaism’ we mean.
- The Israelites and the Jews of the early monarchic period were polytheistic and continued to worship the gods of their Canaanite forebears, with the addition of a new patron God, Yahweh (YHWH). Mark S. Smith says of this period, in The Early History of God, that according to the available evidence, Israelite religion in its earliest form did not contrast markedly with the religions of its Levantine neighbours in either number or configuration of deities. The polytheistic period prior to 722 BCE might better be referred to as ‘Hebrew religion’ rather than Judaism.
- During the late monarchic period, official Judaism developed in the direction of monolatry, although there is evidence that the ordinary people continued to worship gods and goddesses. This was Judaism, but scarcely recognisable today.
- At some stage during or after the Babylonian Exile, Judaism became monotheistic. Smith says (ibid), “Monotheism was ultimately a product of the Exile, but some developments leading to it are evident in a variety of religious expressions dating to the monarchy.”
Worship still revolved around animal sacrifices, so it was not the Judaism of today. The Exilic and post-Exilic period were when most of the Tanakh (Old Testament) was written or redacted, but the Talmud was centuries off in the future. - The destruction of the Jerusalem temple in 70CE brought animal sacrifice to an end and ushered in Rabbinic Judaism. The priesthood was abandoned and the teachings of the Pharisees seem to have been adapted to the needs of the time.
- Modern Judaism is heavily based on the Talmud, which is possibly as important to a Jew as the Tanakh. Synagogues have long since replaced temple worship.
The Hebrew religion of the early centuries of the first millennium BCE is scarcely to be called Judaism, but in any case arose from the Canaanite religion of previous centuries. At the other end of the timescale, the first version of Judaism that would have been recognisable to a modern observer, chiefly because of the books of scripture, only arose in the sixth century BCE.
The Jews encountered Zoroastrianism in Persia in the seventh century BCE, but it was already centuries old. It appears to have reached Persia from eastern Iran at least a hundred years beforehand. Views differ as to whether Zoroastrianism emerged farther to the east or in southern Russia, home also to Hinduism, with which it shares some affinity. I think the dominant opinion is that the origin of Zoroastrianism is in southern Russia, no later than about 1700 BCE. This is long before the evolution of Judaism and even before the legendary time of Moses."

by Simon inif you accuse people of being stuck in jw mindset or "cult-like" mentality simply because someone has a different view of politics than you, you'll be deleted.. it's insulting and a lazy substitute for having any real argument for a proper debate.. what next ... "you smell" ?.

I think that personally insulting another Poster is simply wrong, and any action Simon takes regarding that sort of thing meets with my full approval. The argument should be addressed, and that alone.
If you determine that a particular Poster is in fact still in the JW mindset, or the mindset of many of a Political conviction, one that does not allow them to honestly assess the argument you have presented, it is simply time to leave that Poster to stew in their own ignorance, it is not time to insult them personally.

Thanks FTS, I was not aware of Google Scholar until I read your Post above, I can foresee that my wife will be complaining that I am spending even more time reading !
As I said above, this Thread has been an eye opener to me, and to me is an example of the joy of learning, you add new knowledge, which then permits your mind to make lots of connections, and your Worldview is thus expanded, Wonderful !

I think I Posted on the Thread that Earnest points us to, but, at risk of repeating myself, the Film is accurate and very well produced and acted.
What I enjoyed at the Cinema I attended was the audience reaction to much of the content, the audience laughed out loud at the silly Doctrines, and I heard remarks like "disgusting" when the Shunning process was shown, and the way the Elders handled things.
It really was a good insight for the Public to see the reality of JW life, and what a nasty little cult it is.
