Awake Magazine - No Longer Being Printed?

someone made reference in another post that the awake magazine had ceased publication.

maybe i missed it since i have not been on here as much in the last 6 months.

is this true?

A memory just came back to me, of myself as a young person offering the Mags at the Doors, and hiding the Watchtower UNDER the Awake because I knew some people said " NO THANK YOU !" as soon as they saw the name "Watchtower" ! The "Awake" title was not so well known, and disliked, I reasoned.

The necessity for such deceit must have added to the growing Cognitive Dissonance that I had. I was always ashamed that my family were JW's, and hid the fact that I was (nominally) too, from anyone that I could.

Do You Still Easily Believe Everything?

to be a witness you had to accept whatever spiritual food was being dished out.

even if it didn’t make any sense, we were expected to believe.

now that we are out of the cult, do you find yourself a person who doesn’t just accept the status quo?

I agree, it can be time consuming, often a time-saver is a trusted Fact Checking Site, ( some are not so good, none are infallible!), but sometimes, where it is a life and death matter, as the case of that fraud Mikovitz was, then the time is worth it surely ?

With her balderdash it only took a couple of clicks to find out she was not qualified in the necessary fields to make the judgements she claimed to be able to do, and that what she said was Scientifically wrong. But as I said above, sometimes it does involve a degree of time and effort where someone has gone to a great deal of effort themselves to make it seem as though their claims are genuine.

The more you do it, you do, without doubt, develop a good Bullshit Detector, but, some will continue to be lazy, and continue to be fooled and led by the nose.

i think the excellent thread on the wandering jews having to defecate outside the camp could have explored further implications, such as animal faeces, and also the fact that when women are in a group they cycle (menstruate) together.

imagine what the place was like with their attitude towards a menstruating woman, or with the disposal of the "rags".how did they dispose of all the placentas, etc.

?where are the skeletons of the millions of people and animals?

Thanks Doug, though I have long been aware that there is no Archaeological proof of the "Wanderings" , which there would be had they occurred, I have never before thought about how preposterous is the whole concept of the Story is.

I do think that the Hebrew/Jewish people who first encountered these fantastical stories took them with a pinch of salt from the start ! at least, I hope they did !

I am a bit sad that Truthmatters turned out to be a useless Troll and a total TWAT, back in the old days when I first found this place, we used to get JW's with some real intelligence, and expertise, and genuine belief come on here and try their HONEST best to defend their faith and beliefs.

We haven't had anyone of that calibre for many years. It was gratifying that these honest folk would quite often acknowledge the help they received on here, and that they had left the Org. realising what it was and what it was not.

It is my firm belief that No One of the calibre of those honest folk is left in the Org !

DISFELLOWSHIPPING, How bad is it really?

i found this experience on reddit today.

disfellowshipping never really bothered me.

i always thought it was just another way of getting rid of members that weren't welcome anymore.. but i've changed my mind.

Disfellowshipping is an Evil and Unscriptural device used by a High Control, Mind Control Cult, to keep people trapped within, and continuing to donate.

I cannot stress enough, because of the deaths , heartache, pain and life changing effects it has had, that Disfellowshipping is nothing less than PURE EVIL !!

All of this was such an Eye-opener to me when I first left, thank you JW Facts , Paul Grundy ! What stuck in my mind was a phrase that someone used about this issue " If you have The Truth, you do not have to Lie about it " !!!

Governing Body; Villians or just Deluded?

thousands of documents proving 607 bce is wrong, yet the gb sticks to the date, why?.

I agree thoroughly Vid. They have all come up through the Ranks, and had no opportunity to possibly actually wake up. But, in my many years in the Org. I touched upon the higher Echelons from time to time, and became aware that all those who were " up there" had to some degree become aware of the fact that some of it at least was bullshit, but at the same time they were aware that it was necessary to keep up the façade, the false front, so that the Rank and File JW's did not start to realise there WAS an element of Bullshit.

Cognitive Dissonance 101. So, you are right, they realise that much of it is wrong, but believe it is in the interests of believers to continue to pretend. They actually think they are serving the " God of Truth " with this scam. Again, Cognitive dissonance 101.

Has anyone still in or otherwise heard anything about JWs think we only have 12 months before Armageddon?

i’ve noticed a change in family attitude recently, like there is just something extra on their mind.

i even had to call my brother to check if he was dying and too scared to tell me.

anyway, i saw a video last night my saying jws think we only have 12 months left before armageddon so thought maybe this is the reason for changes attitude.

The silly thing is that there is No Basis for thinking Armageddon or the Great Tribulation or " The End" or a " New World " are going to happen, ever.

No Basis at all, as the Bible has been discredited as the word of god, and as a book of prophecy.

People who think otherwise are Deluded Fantasists, and doomed to lifelong disappointment.

"Why did the wt ask for early wt CD libraries to be destroyed?"

A pertinent question zachias ! they also asked for much of the early literature to be destroyed, and on one occasion asked us to return copies of a book to them, obviously so they could make sure they were destroyed ! What these books contained was so embarrassing to "God's Spirit Directed Organization" !

And yet if you had cast doubt on any of this stuff when tit was current, you would have been Drummed Out of the Org !

When I woke up I realised that the Org had lied and lied and lied to me for many decades. If I had only done some serious testing of their false claims, I could have been free much earlier in Life.

I decided I would only trust that something was true if it had evidence and facts to back it that would stand the most rigorous of scrutiny, and preferably scrutiny by experts in the field.

I have done that ever since, even checking to see who is financing Scientists or others that claim this or that, and checking references in Scientific Papers, often the references come from other Scientists that take the same stance as the Paper, which is no validation necessarily, sometimes it is. You have to use judgement.

I apply this system elsewhere too. So I am unlikely to be caught out by trusting that some random bloke on the internet has it right, and experts who agree a consensus opinion are wrong.

I will not be fooled again.
