This is of course the usual state of things in Science, and History Studies of course. So it means you have to sensibly make a choice, as even a consensus of experts can be wrong.

What is not in doubt is the testimony of the heavens, in the form of eclipses, in this case Lunar eclipses.

Four Eclipses are of interest to us around the period in question, 19th March 721, 8th march 720, 1st September 720 and 22 April 621.

As we know when in the reign of the relevant king these occurred, other events can be fixed with certitude from those dates.

All of this debate on this Thread though somewhat obscures the fact that regardless of when events in the distant past actually occurred, there is no way to prove that 1914 C.E features in Bible prophecy.

The JW Org constantly harping on about the nearness of Armageddon, and that we are in the Biblical "End Time" has no support in Astronomy, History or Scripture.

Mulholland Drive (2001) - what do you make of this movie?

i first saw mulholland drive (2001) about a month ago.

i bought it second-hand from the local market.. it's kinda weird, it's a david lynch film, lol.

i've seen half his movie output (5 films out of his total of 10).. in addition to this film, i also own eraserhead (1977), the elephant man (1980) and blue velvet (1986).. plus, i remember watching dune (1984) on tv years ago.. mulholland drive is definitely strange.

There is a Facebook page you may be interested in LUHE, it is called " Incredibly Strange Films", it may point you to some you have never heard of ! it did me.

I watched Mullholland Drive years ago, and could not really decipher it satisfactorily, but I must give it another watch. David Lynch is good, but a pain in the arse to me when he gives NO HINT about a Film ! I need Films deconstructed for me by experts.

page 257 of the wt's 1965 book called "things in which it is impossible for god to lie" quotes from the jewish encyclopedia (edition of 1909) regarding the trinity doctrine.

the first edition of 1901-1906 likely has the same text as the 1909 edition and the text of the 1901-1906 edition (in the article about the trinity) can be read online at https://www.jewishencyclopedia.com/articles/14519-trinity.

the wt begins its quote with the phrase "the concept" but the words replaced with "..." say "the fundamental dogma of christianity;".

There are some very good examples of Misquotes on a number of Threads on here, and on JWFacts.com if memory serves.

The misquoting, or Quote Mining as it is often called is totally dishonest. It is like the Theatre that is touting its latest Play with the quote, up in lights outside, saying : " the very best Show I have seen in London this year " The Observer. When the complete quote said, " I would like to say this is the very best show I have seen in London this year, but I cannot, for surely it is the worst".

The Tower of Lies was founded upon lies, and has to continue to lie to fool its members. If you have "the truth" you have no need, ever, to lie.

What made you walk out on the "Truth"?

i had a legal divorce from my ex wife( law of the land).

i was told not to expect to get remarried because my divorce was not legal to watchtower.. my divorce and situation seem to be a talk of gossip and even a many local needs talks.

i wanted to take some more schooling to get a better job, there was a local needs talk on higher education and it's dangers.

It always fascinates me with Threads on this theme, that there are SO many reasons why people leave, and again, the actual "Straw that broke the Camels back" is usually different for all who have left.

These are more often than not people who have lived the religion as they were expected to, really believed it was at least mainly " the truth" , and yet they have left, for MANY different reasons, all things that are wrong with the religion, that prove it is not " the truth".

Millions have left, yet it does not register with those still in that there is anything wrong. They are Mind Controlled, once that control is breached, they join us as Happy Ex-JW's.

This is a brave statement which may have been broadly true a while ago, but Scholarship moves on, unlike the Poster "Scholar" who slavishly adheres to the JW Org's spurious use of Scripture and History in the main.

This Thread has been hi-jacked and has moved on from discussing how the Babylonian Tablets, VAT 4956 included, support the fourth Month of 587 BCE as the destruction of Jerusalem by King Neb.

Because it wasn't. Wasn't truth, any of it.

My JW parents raised me to be a Lover of Truth, I still am, so my conscience forced me to leave what I soon came to call " The Tower of Lies".

Truth is easy to find. Truth is established by Facts and Evidence that withstands any attack or scrutiny.

Look at its origin, and it was started for a laugh, as a piss-take against "Christianity" being force fed to our kids in school. It is now recognised by some Governments and other Authorities as being as you perceptively say "as legit as another religion " that you can think of, which a man made up only a 100 years before Pastafarianism.

I would venture to say it is even more legit than all other religions, in that the motive for starting it, and for its members to continue it, is Pure !

Whoever this deluded girl or guy "scholar" is, she/he is acting like a troll here. Many many times before have all the rubbish claims that come from "scholar" been refuted, but we have to go over the same stuff, because the motive is I reckon to confuse a J.W reading here in to thinking there is some substance to the arguments of the ironically self named "scholar".
