Myth of 1914

the wt engages in history revisionism when insisting the world changed overnight in 1914. in fact the european power struggles that came to a head were centuries old.

millions of lives had been lost in the wars of the 19th century, with the world a powder keg the years prior to the assassination of franz ferdinand in june 1914 which is often said, albeit rather arbitrarily, as the start of the war that escalated over the next 4 years into the great war.

take a look at these two pages and ask if the wt's interpretation of history seems accurate to you.

"Fisherman" offered the old False Dichotomy Fallacy, just two ways to look at 1914 according to Fish, but you have shown a Third Way, and a correct way, without painful eisegesis stretching incredulity to the limit, you cannot come up with any dates for events to happen, i.e Bible prophecy. The various Works we find in the Bible were not written with that intention, or vision, they did not look forward thousands of years, even when predicting "End Times" the writers thought they were almost upon them !

"Bible" predictions were deliberately vague, and if you analyse them just briefly, they all failed.

Why Not Celebrate Christmas?

so, jw's don't celebrate christmas or other holidays.

as bill cetnar once said, there are two reasons for everything: the reason they tell you, and the real reason.

they will tell you it's because christmas is "pagan" and can lead to all sorts of licentious conduct (like drinking too much macallan scotch?)..

Myself and the Atheist side of the family celebrate Christmas as we choose, and it is wonderful, the joy the grand children demonstrate, the family being together, enjoying good food, a nice drink, and a good laugh !

I remember the old J.W argument along the lines of "you can give presents anytime" etc. yea, but that didn't happen for many, AND the Tree, the Decorations etc all make Christmas a special,(I love Big Baubles LOL), magical time, and for us, the more pagan connections it has, the better !

so i grew up as a witness but i’m no longer active, i have some family that still practices very seriously.

but i don’t want to ask them my question.

but what does the bible and teaching’s of jw’s say about early hominids?

I was already well out, no chance of going back, but not a long time out, when I first became aware of the totally dishonest, deliberate, out of context quotes and editing. These saddened me, as before that time I thought they may have been basically honest, but very misguided, yup, I was still very naive ! But this was blatant telling of whopping LIES by telling less than half the truth etc.

If they had "the truth" there would be no need to Lie through their teeth, no need to use loaded language, and no need to control the flow of information to the J.W Rank and File, but they always have, done all of that, and now it is in a much bigger way.

Why they fight against the Mountain of Evidence for Evolution by Natural Selection is because of their abysmally ignorant, and frankly very silly desire to take as much of the Bible as literal as they dare get away with.

Many Mainstream Christians maintain their faith, alongside an honest recognition of Scientific truths.

Very true ! painted themselves in to a corner. This has simply got to be the decade they come up with something to replace the 1914 T.S ( total shite), but what on earth can they do ?

Whatever it is, it is bound to be equally as bad as the overlapping generation crap. It will open many more J.W eyes too.

I guess the Org. have realised they were regularly getting their arses kicked in Court using their inept in-house Lawyers.

They need top notch guys for this, because it is bigger than merely losing the $$$ from the Norwegian Government. This Judgement in favour of the Government challenges their Policy of Shunning, that they cannot afford to lose a grip on, it is their CHIEF means of Control.

Admittedly, Norway is not a huge deal in the World of International Law usually, but this matter concerns Human Rights. This time the world of Law will watch with interest, analyse the arguments, and the outcome. Interesting times !

Door to door preaching back?

Back when I was a JW a C.O asked for a show of hands as to how many actually liked the D to D work, hardly a hand was raised. I cannot see it being any more popular today. Unusually,he went on to say HE did not like it, but of course trotted out the reasons why it should be done.

I noticed a couple of years before the pandemic, so 2017ish, that the enthusiasm that formerly prompted a visit every 6 weeks or so up until then, had waned. The visits dropped to once in 3 months. I could gauge this because I worked from home, and from my desk could see who passed by in the street. (by then I was a Do Not Call, not because I asked for that, but because I was considered "dangerous to faith" for JW's to talk with me, LOL).

When I was in we had a good number who rarely took much part in D to D, including a number of Elders, we had some who were expert at avoiding it by doing "return visits" etc.

So, what with a general dislike, fake hours etc, how much actual door knocking will go on ?

Wallace's "The personality of The holy spirit"

his honesty here is surprising considering he once cited countess' very flawed argument.

a very good article to read anyhow and unironically quite useful in teaching how greek antecedents work - something very important on occasion.not to "spoil" the article but here are some very "un- wallace" thoughts, considering his stance on the trinity:.

The Paper, which was an eye-opener to me, but confirmed my gut feeling, a feeling I have had since my late teens where, as a JW, I sparred with a number of Trinitarians, but did not have this to bludgeon them with !

The paper ends with this, which I agree with too :

" In sum, I have sought to demonstrate in this paper that the grammatical basis for the Holy Spirit's personality is lacking in the NT, yet this is frequently, if not usually, the first line of defense of that doctrine by many evangelical writers. But if grammar cannot legitimately be used to support the Spirit's personality, then perhaps we need to reexamine the rest of our basis for this theological commitment. I am not denying the doctrine of the Trinity, of course, but I am arguing that we need to ground our beliefs on a more solid foundation."

I am not a believer of any stripe nowadays, and do not condemn those who believe the Trinity Doctrine, I see it as a natural evolution in Christology, but I do hate spurious use of Scripture ! The Trinity Doctrine is not found in the N.T, and even the Gospel of John does not point to a nascent form of it, it seems !
