a pet peeve of mine

putting this under "friends" because i couldn't figure out where to put it.

it is very often on here and in ex jw videos, ect that people like to undermine some of those who once we would have called friends.

there seems to be a view that window washers, plumbers, cleaners, construction workers are somehow less intelligent than those who may be college educated.

I agree with the main point of the O.P but more often than not the "window washer" bit has been used to describe how absolutely bereft of training the Elders are for their pastoral Role. They are trained how to "discipline", how to protect the Org, but not how to really care for the "sheep".

I think of one case, where they were dealing with a young man, married and working, but he had got badly in to debt, the Elders pulled him in and "disciplined" him for another matter, and he walked in to the sea and drowned himself a couple of days later.

Had they been qualified as Counsellors, and were really loving Shepherds, he would more than likely be alive today.

How do you feel about Brexit?

what are your thoughts on brexit?

"Since leaving--wages have rapidly gone up". The wage rises have nothing to do with Brexit, they are coming in to try to reduce the gap between what was earned in 2010 and now.(Tory Austerity, to keep inflation down, remember ? but inflation continued).

There is NO BENEFIT we could have from Brexit even if it had been handled in a better way. If you think there is, list them, I will demolish them.

SBF and Punkie have it right, it's a complete disaster. It was always going to be.

Careful what you wish for! Regarding Jehovah in the New Testament

ok i'll bite.. let's say for a moment that jehovah's witnesses are right, and that the nt autographs (the originals) contained the tetragrammaton.let's say that the nt writers always wrote "jehovah" in greek (iexoba, as the witnesses spell it currently) when they quoted the hebrew scriptures, whether they quoted from the hebrew version or the septuagint, and jehovah's name appeared on the quote.

let's say that the original septuagint always had iexoba whenever they were referring to jehovah.then we have that the original septuagint said in psalms 101:26-28 the following:"at the beginning it was you, o jehovah, who founded the earth, and the heavens are works of your hands.

they will perish, but you will endure, and they will all become old like a garment.

That might be the task of Theology, to make the whole messy mish-mash of Scripture be not contradictory, to systemise the "whole of Divine revelation", but that is basically a dishonest work, and does a disservice to the original Writers, and if you believe in god, is a bit of an insult to him.

You theologians are elevating yourselves above the god who inspired the words of Scripture.

When I was a kid, my mum caught me reading a James Bond Novel which I had covered with my Bible, she became suspicious because I was so devotedly reading my Bible !

When I was older I was in charge of the Attendants Rota, if someone didn't turn up for duty, I filled in, if they did, I "lovingly" assisted them by patrolling the Car Park for them etc.

Jeez, I'd been in the "religion" from birth, and for decades, I knew I wasn't missing anything of worth.

"5000 manuscripts," Is bandied about, and means to mislead, NONE of those are early ! so prove nothing.

I really don't think it matters much the question "was the Name in or not", but there is a real slippery slope when people like J.W org change what the best MSS say, once you start doing that, where do you stop ? Why not write whole new N.T ? (They are some way down the road to doing that).

I think Slimboy made a good point, the Name may have been removed for devious reasons, as the Trinity Doctrine developed. But that is no justification for what J.W Org has done.

I always like to ask what would the readers of these words, the first ones, have gleaned from them ? how would they have understood them ?

That way, if you answer your own question with honesty, you do not READ BACK into Scripture later Theology and ideas that were not in the Reader's minds, nor the Writer's either.

"I will trade comfort for truth every time" me too, but I found when I was a believing J.W the constant, and ever building, Cognitive Dissonance meant I was uncomfortable, all the time unless well away from J.W people and stuff.

I found that discovering truth eradicated Cog. Diss, helped me find my real self, and was like drinking fresh, pure cool water, rather than the brackish sewage laden sort the J.W's are forced to drink.

Some things were hard, I remember meeting up with a lovely XJW lady shortly after I had left, and she said (I don't know how it came up) "..But we all have to die", prior to that I had never faced my mortality. But doing so made me more comfortable in the end.

There is no substitute for truth and reality, living in delusion doesn't even come second.

this list has about 300 sources, mostly bibles, that the jehovah's witnesses have used to "justify" their insertion of "jehovah" into the new testament.i am doing an excel spreadsheet of where to find digitized copies of these j versions and then some notes on them.. they contain some really interesting renderings, some that would make a jehovah's witness's head spin!for example, in j29:the original aramaic new testament in plain english (an american translation of the aramaic new testament), by glenn david bauscher, seventh edition, australia, 2012which you can find here:.

Yes, thanks for the explanation. I realised the "J" references the Org. used were all for late stuff when I was in.

I just thought you guys had found something that DID prove the Name was in the N.T or something else perhaps.

Now I can see what you are getting at, more Org. devious deception !

I really don't think it matters one way or the other if the Name was in the N.T or not, what is important is, if you take it upon yourself to insert it willy-nilly, and other stuff too, you cannot claim to be following the oldest MSS, but that is what the Org. claim, and often leave out verses because they are not found in the oldest MSS.

They are not honest enough of course to admit to what is true, they make everything up as they go along.

Pardon my being obviously obtuse, but could someone kindly explain the interest in these MSS ? of what significance are they to our determining what was originally written all those Centuries before these Texts appeared ?

Regional Convention Attendance

elder friend of mine texted me asking what my rc attendance was 2 weeks ago (family and i streamed it since wife is not well).

he told me that his rc in the jersey city assembly hall last weekend was low.

co told them that around 2600 were the total from 16+ congs that were assigned.

When I was beginning to wake up, but hadn't left yet, we blew out the Regional thingy, I think it was called a District Convention in those days, nobody noticed we were not there ! I thought my J.W family might notice, but thankfully, no.

We never attended another Convention of any kind, having got away with that one, then we left just over a year later.

I remember being a bit careful in conversation with a few J.W's shortly after each Convention, but they soon forgot about it.

With the attendance thing mentioned in the O.P and other Posts, I don't remember it being particularly well attended every day, maybe Sunday, but I think a lot skipped going, like me, for at least some of the days.
