  I am pleased the ruling makes it as easy as possible for the medical profession to administer a life saving transfusion, think how thankful that child will be when he or she learns that the JW/WT religion is false, and the Court would not allow the parent to murder them for a discredited doctrine.

  As to the 12 yr old offering consent, I guess a refusal would have to be given the same weight, but if the child has only ever heard the JW twaddle about the Bibles words on use of blood, how on earth could this be an informed refusal of a B.T ?

  I doubt the child could actually explain the WT doctrine on blood, but never having seen anything to put the doctrine in doubt, they will say they wish to die rather than "displease Jehovah". So so sad.

  If I had read JWFacts.com' article on the JW doctrine of blood at 12 years old, I would have rejected the WT's rubbish there and then, but JW 12 year olds are not given such information, they are instructed by the ill-informed and deluded, so are ill-placed to make a life or death decision.

  Pre-emptive shunning - a growing reality

  i'm scanning through some of the results from the 2012 jw survey as they're coming in.. the most populous of the six voting categories with 76 voters so far is my own category, for those who are inactive, or "faded/fading" (not disfellowshipped or da'd, but no longer reporting time on the ministry).. one statistic already leaping out at me surrounds the question "do you experience 'pre-emptive shunning' from active witnesses, who view you as 'bad association'?

  " of the 74 who voted on this so far, 76% have answered "yes" to this question.. it's early days, and obviously i will have a clearer picture of the extent of the problem once the survey closes at the end of the year.

  however, the results already in suggest that pre-emptive shunning is widespread among inactive ones, despite this not being an "official" policy of the society.. i was interested in your opinions as to why this may be?

  I really feel the thread title is spot on "a growing reality". And it seems to be happening because the JW's are being subliminally led to believe that it is a God approved policy that will protect them and the congregation.

  Kinda shows what sort of God they worship !

  What I wonder is, how can we as individuals best counter this attitude at family level ? When they tell you they will not see or talk with you, what the blazes can you do ? It is tempting to bleat on about not being DF'd or DA'd but they know you are not, and yet have judged you "dangerous" in some way to their oh so frail faith.

  So, is there anything we can do ?

  Thanks for posting this Rick , I think this is the most far reaching Court ruling we have had in the U.K .

  It seems fair and balanced, even if it gives more power to the JW mum than we would like to see perhaps, but to say that the parent cannot prevent the child from taking part in extra-curricular activities is good, can you see the Elders wrestling with that ? "Sis So-and-so's kid was in the Nativity Play what can we do ?"

  The Court said what they allowed was on the basis that JW's were "socially acceptable" , I wonder how they guage that ?

  It is up to us to make them socially unacceptable I guess.

  I was going to say, in regard to "N", "poor kid", but I think the child is going to at least get the chance to see alternative points of view and practices, more than a fully subsumed Witness kid, who is shut off from the real world.

  i had one in my congo that humiliated every other woman by her aura of "i'm sooo perfect and your not!

  " her dinner parties were legendry and rivaled only by buckingham place.

  that if you are a congregation member you can ask to see the updated (jan 2012) child safeguarding policy, all 46 pages of it.the elders have been instructed to make it available to those that make the request!.

  I think you speak for most on here with that, Cedars, and long may your work continue, it will aid many.

  What I found laughable too, was erbies contention that we missed " the peace of mind and purpose......."

  I was many years in the WT, but had no peace of mind, too much cognitive dissonance for that, and the "purpose" was always a bit vague to me, it seemed to be just serving the WT, not God.

  It is well written and presented, I wonder if he helped the Theology students to expand their point of view? I am sure he did, although many of them may have agreed already with much of what he said.

  I think this thread is sliding a bit off topic, so I will just say that erbie is wrong on many counts, which I will address on another thread later.

  (see the thread "erbie" thinks you miss the WT do you? )

  To get back on topic, I have recently experienced pre-emptive shunning in a most horrible way, I will not give details as they may identify me, but sufficient to say that it is becoming a widespread practise, and it is much harsher than the old "marking" idea, which was not understood or used much by many JW's

  It is a worrying trend.
