  today i added a new article to my blog relating the case of a witness patient whose husband agreed too late to have blood transfusion administered.

  I still feel a joke coming on as I read through it :

  "What is the difference between a JW and a Muslim ?"

  "one believes their religion is 100% right, and the other ........... erm"

  Perhaps the comics on here can provide a better punchline ?

  this book my wife and i are reading is entitled " take back your life - recovering from cults and abusive relationships " by janja lalich & madeleine tobias .

  both were former cult members and are ph.d's teaching as associate professors of sociology at a university and the other is a clinical coordinator and psychotherapist for a medical veterans clinic.

  Thanks Flipper for posting this, I haven't got hold of a copy of the book yet, but it may well be just as powerful as Hassan'sbooks, in that a JW reading it cannot take the line that it is "anti-JW".

  Once I have read it I will find ways of using it.

  Only in America?

  about 10 years ago i visited the three new york bethels - patterson, brooklyn and wallkill.

  at the time, i was still very much mentally infatuated with the organization, so the trip was filled with wonder and nostalgia.

  i can remember being told by a tour guide at wallkill that they were now so familiar with things constantly changing and being improved that the information they give on tours can quickly become out-of-date.

  I think you are right Cedars, if you look at the religious milieu at the end of the 19th Century in Britain, it was quite similar to that of America, many were looking for the Last Days and the 2nd Presence etc, books similar to Russell's full of strange interpretations of scripture and predictions for the near future were published by clergymen and others.

  And yet no large religious movements independant of help from America, grew out of this potential hotbed. No doubt the American character gave impetus to all the movements that got going at that time, if only they they had been more like us Brits ! Nothing would have got done !

  Sadly we cannot say that the WT is all the fault of our friends across the pond, it was given impetus by the London Bethel and its sending out of travelling ministers etc. Just having the Craven Terrace London address made it sound more legit.

  We Brits are guilty of helping it along, at the very least, on behalf of my ancestors, I apologise for that !

  This is terrible ! all the nations and peoples of the world who disagree with the proposed execution should let their feelings be known.

  World opinion is powerful, these blasphemy laws belong in a time that was long in the past, not in the 21st Century.

  i was thinking about this at work...for years i wasted time feeling gulity because i wasnt living my life the way that jehovah wanted me to live it.

  now that i have researched what mind control means, i've come to the conclusion that jw's are very selfish.

  there is this girl that i grew with here in milwaukee that is a musician now.

  in 1517, martin luther wrote in a letter to archbishop albert of mainz: you must graciously forgive that i, that scum of the earth, am so bold as to dare to address a letter to you.. yes, i know, you think of me as scum, just like mainz believed of luther, wondering how i dare write you a letter, someone jehovahs witnesses disfellowshipped back in 2002. i was accused of being an unrepentant sinner and condemned for causing divisions, then labeled apostate because i spoke out publicly on nbcs dateline tv program aboutthe child sexual abuse policies that protected pedophiles policies that you helped formulate.

  A truly great letter, for all the reasons above, plus Barbara clearly shows how they twist scripture whilst taking it out of context. This alone will be enough for any Bible loving person to reject the WT for its dishonest use of the word of God.

  Their misuse of scripture by the above method is not just simply a bit of dishonesty, it is actually murderous on aregular basis, as they have done this with establishing their teaching on the medical use of blood.

  Many Jehovah's Witnesses, and sadly children of JW's, have died because of this doctine that is based on false use of scripture, more will die in the future.

  If Barbara's letter prevents one person from dying because of this false teaching, by her exposing their dishonest methods, it is well worth it.

  I believe it will have a greater effect than that, there were probabaly many who were negative about Martin Luther's open letter nailed to the door, but it had much effect.

  Many more people will see this letter than actually saw Luther's.

  Well done Barabara !

  james harrison has magical blood.. specifically, his blood contains an extremely rare enzyme that can be used to treat babies dying of rhesus disease.

  I read that inspirational story, some time ago, and went and donated blood. As a JW I had never done such a thing, it turns out my blood type is a little bit on the rare side,only 6% of the population have it, so it is always needed.

  I wish I could donate more often, but here in the U.K we can only do so every 16 weeks.

  It is great, as you donate, to see the number of people who put themselves out for strangers for no reward, there are lots of good people out there

  now--ok--i expect many of you will point out the error of my thinking,--but---.

  didnt the ancient hebrew language read "backwards"--ie--from right to left?.

  so yhwh--could be hwhy---which sounds a bit like hughie.. in any case --i think it sounds nicer than jehovah---that name sounds like an angry god--the kind who just might destroy 99.9% of the population--just to prove a point..

  There is an old thread on here that asked WT apologists to leap in and prove that JW's are God's chosen organization, it ran for over 20 pages, and the apologists ran off with their tail between their leg and their book bag.

  They do not seem to visit here anymore, but good luck with your request, I think anyone prepared to stand up on here and defend the WT is about as rare as rocking horse poo.

  You would think that the fact that they cannot make a "defense to him who asks" should alert them to the fact that they are not in God's Organization.

  If it were His , and "The Truth", it would be easily defended, and would stand any scrutiny.
