Christians are supposed to be ruled over by Christ. The old adage applies " See who you cannot criticise, and you will see who rules over you".
The Governing Body have claimed the place that should belong only to Christ.
this was a comment from the meeting(tm) on sunday.. the person that told me about it, is very confused about the validity of the corporation.
somewhere between a pimo and a pimi-lite.
the thing that angered me was that this person has cancer.

in a recent post about the watchtower’s claim that all animals were created as vegetarians, one commenter said that watchtower could no longer sustain this belief so they simply stopped talking about it.
i began thinking about other wacky doctrines and statements by the borg that have faded away.
i’ll offer two of them below, but the complete list must be longer than your arm.. 7000 year-long creative days: watchtower once taught that each of the creative days was 7,000 years in duration, hence the hype leading up to 1975. they believed that year marked 6,000 years since adam’s creation, and oh how nicely the 1,000-year reign would fit as the last piece of the puzzle, thus completing the final “day”.
The other belief they don't seem to mention these days was one that was around until the late seventies, perhaps a bit later, and that was that in the Noo System eventually marriage will come to an end.
I think this was another Mad Freddie Franz idea maybe. When Mrs Phizzy and I were married, all those years ago, we were prevailed upon to still have as part of our Vows, " ....... or until ended by God's arrangement " or whatever the wording was. We wanted that phrase dropped, but were persuaded by the old boy taking our Service that it was a "good witness", that non JW's might ask what it meant. Rubbish of course, no one ever did.
meeting part comment on how the flood covered everest.
that is even more ignorant than mountains being pushed up and eroding in a few thousand years.
and it wasnt cold either.. i should have commented on the bristlecone in the awake that survived the flood.
The problem with the idea of a local flood, if extensive from the writers point of view, is that it does not fit with the Org's beloved " Bible Chronology ", there was no such flood anywhere near the time that the Genesis story is supposed to be set.
No doubt various cultures experienced quite devastating floods, which gave rise to the various flood myths, the fact that the Noah story and the number of other flood stories from around the middle east are so similar, bespeaks of a folk memory of a really bad flood, way way before the time of Noah. Maybe of when the Med. broke through to the Black Sea ?

Just something that comes to mind about the "Cross" business. Jehovah allowed the Romans to kill Jesus, no interference, so why should he interfere with the common Roman way of Public execution ?
Arguing that the Cross was a Pagan Symbol is simply nonsense, that would mean that every piece of wood, whatever its use, if it had a crosspiece, was a pagan symbol. What nonsense.
The further argument that the Church should not use it because had Jesus been hung, would you venerate a Rope, or if shot, a Gun, is nonsense too, the Church uses it as a symbol of the meaning of Christs death, as an aid memoir.

There is another plant that "survived" the Flood, called Kings Lomatia, it is a fresh water plant, and could not survive being in even mildly saline water. It has been around for more than 40,000 years, and the way it propagates itself means that the plant we see today, is, literally the same plant that was around 40,000 years ago.
Another problem with the idea of the waters covering the highest mountain, is that if I remember right, there simply is not enough water on the Planet to do that ??
The Flood story is total myth, borrowed from much earlier Flood stories, in many small details.
if this has been posted before, then my apologies..... article in april ‘20 wt changes the view of the locust swarm prophecy...formerly believed to describe the worldwide preaching by anointed.
”simply put, these verses refer, not to our zealous preaching work, but to the activity of the babylonian army that invaded jerusalem in 607 b.c.e.”.
they also tie in the giving of holy spirit to the congregation at pentecost and thereafter.. the article is available to read in full on our least favourite website.. https://www.jw.org/en/library/magazines/watchtower-study-april-2020/an-attack-coming-from-the-north/.
I won't read that nonsense, it makes me feel nauseous to do so, but I have a question, what Babylonian Army invaded Jerusalem in 607 BCE ??? History records no such event.
every once in a while you hear people say they actually “miss” their old witness friends and or family.
some would have even stayed in the organization if they became a bit more liberal and open minded.
.
You cannot unlearn what you have come to know. So the Thread Title is a little like asking an adult ; " Would you go back to believing in Santa Claus ? ".
I think that is a fair analogy, as when you learn TTATT you come to see just how VERY INFANTILE, and VERY VERY SILLY the Org is !
just though i'd start a thread devoted to languages, dialects/sociolects and accents, with the idea being that posters can comment on any language, or dialect or accent of any language, on this thread.. any phrases, expressions or idioms that you find interesting are also welcome.
first, the subject of english accents came up on another thread.. the british isles have many different types of accent (although many of the dialects may be dying out), and if i start to take a closer look, i can't help but see 'patterns' .... in received pronunciation of standard english, the letter r is pronounced initially, between vowels, and after consonants, e.g.
red, arrow, break.
I have been called fichead, even before I was 20 ! do you think there is any real advantage to learning (some Gaelic) for me, an infrequent visitor to Ireland and Scotland ?
i had to submit to a random work place drugs test yesterday, of which i passed.
in this country smoking marijuana / methamphetamine is illegal.
the thing that really struck me was that despite the illegal nature of it, was just how prevalent and problem is.
I had a Dope test once, I passed, .............I am a Dope !

NO and NO again ! as a lover of Truth my personal integrity would simply not let me.
