by ThomasCovenant ini'm in the uk, and most days over the last 2 weeks i've watched the 5pm uk government update on the corona virus situation which includes questions from the media.
generally speaking i've found the whole update, including the questions and answers, to be respectful, informative and non combative, with, to the best of my recollection, very little mention of politics and blame.
certainly no political point scoring.

I think that you are right Simon, knowing well the Italian mindset and the way they operate, i.e a political system both national and local, that just chunters along, and I am sure is as bad or worse than many other Countries.
The collapse I was referring to killed a good number of people, but I have not heard that there was a big Inquiry, let alone a Court case, maybe there was, and I missed it, but if not, there should have been !
The same as there should be an accounting of Governments and Officials who have been negligent with handling the present crisis. Thousands will have died before their time.

Slidin Fast has it right . After the terrible collapse of one bridge, maybe two years ago ? it was publicly stated that sub-standard cement, supplied through Mafia owned Companies, was to blame.

I like your stuff Min, and over the years the length your Topics have stretched to shows I am not the only one ! O.K the questions may not always be the deepest, most philosophical of thoughts, but they provide a bit of entertainment here, and do promote discussion, which is what this place is all about.
And a word to those being sarcastic etc to Min, Don't take the Piss out of Minimus, there'll be nothing left !

I'm with Long Hair Gal on this, I feel no need anymore to inform JW's, I did, when I first left the cult, I thought it was Mission to give them any and all information, my Duty.
As I matured after leaving, I came to appreciate it simply was not down to me morally to do so, unless there were dire circumstances, and the JW was in some grave danger by believing, which of course can happen.
I now live my life by the Mantra "Do the least Harm and the most Good". Using that, if I ever get to talk to them, I think about the person and how what I say will affect them. For example, some of my older relatives who are JW would be lost and devastated without their Social Club, which is the only benefit they truly gain from it, but why should I make their life emptier than it is ? They would be lonely and sad.
On occasion when JW's have knocked on my door I have given them some real truth, if they come trying to shove their beliefs upon me, then I think it is fair to explain in a kindly and measured way why it is not for me. But I don't see any moral imperative to do anything normally, and sometimes I have simply said something like " It was kind of you to call, Goodbye". If I am too busy to have a conversation. Hope this helps.

Not a mistake, I'm sure it is because "Corona Virus " has become common parlance, so all people will understand what they are talking about, they have not got too technical. Covid 19 is the approved W.H.O terminology, again, a bit of shorthand for the full designation of the Virus.
It is the same as if they wish us to be sure which Prime Minister they are talking about, I'm sure H.M. Government will then use what has become common parlance for him, i.e " BoJo The Clown"....... LOL.

Remember the Revelation book?
by wozza ini recall when it was released ,that's when i was a drone, how excited i felt at the prospect of reading it and formulating ways to sell it at the homes in my area.. i thought, finally a book to explain the last book in the bible and indeed one that the churches seemed to want to leave alone!.
i sold quite a few probably because of my enthusiasm and can still remember clearly the first day when i went knocking on doors with it ,and it's been decades since.. but over time it lost it's shine and my mind started to question the explanations in it due to the scene of other things being changed in the jw beliefs.. do you remember they flogged that book so many times in the book studies even when it was found to have "newer light " eclipsing it!.
who else remembers the printed pages with the official corrections to insert into the book ,so many that the book collapsed to be of no relevance anymore really.....what an embarrassment!.

When I was beginning to wake up, as we "studied" the Rev Book, I had some fun in the Group Study with introducing the information that the JW Org had joined the U.N. I couched my answer in such a way that the Elder taking the study, quite an intelligent guy, but a " Society man" 100% , could not actually take issue with what I said, but looked extremely uncomfortable, and somewhat nonplussed.
I really enjoyed doing that. Of course, it made no impression on most there, they just didn't see the significance of what I was saying, but I am sure the Elder did, I hope it added to his Cognitive Dissonance !

It is not possible to predict how this is going with any certainty. But it seems likely that it will be around for a good while,and there is evidence it is already mutating, so a Vaccine will have to be effective against any new strain as well as the existing one to make a dent in this.
Don't think short term, as in " Oh the Curve is on a downward trend, we can return to normal", no you cannot, you must be just as vigilant and sensible when the downward bit starts, as it goes down the slope , yes, but that is just what happens, it does not denote the virus is on the way out, or anywhere near being beaten.
This bastard thing is with us for a while, the only way to beat it, is deprive it of hosts, both animal and human. That is a very tall order in this modern world. I hope you all stay well and safe.
