okay, i haven't been to a meeting in over 17 years and i don't live anywhere near the place i grew up.

i have had minimal contact with my jw family, essentially just occasional phone conversations.

i think they could easily guess that i'm inactive but they pretend not to know and they've never shunned me.

DOC, I guess if you really start some very public activism, or are helping JW's to wake up, as I do, then they may target you.

It all seems so very petty and small minded, but then, they are. I reckon if they deem it too long ago that you were a member to make it worthwhile DFing you, then they will DA you and let it be known, so that JW's steer clear of you anyway.

It still seems strange to me that they deem it sensible, or even acceptable to people looking in on the Org, to take action against someone who was a member many years ago. If anyone had the money, time and will to do so, I think a Court case for defamation or something would be a fun thing to do, to lay before the Public how very childish and silly they are. What proof could they offer a Court that you had been a member ? no Record Card, just hearsay evidence from people who remember you. I can see the JW's being laughed at in Court, and paying some damages.

i thought i would post an encouraging experience i found today.

i've been seeing a lot of 70-80 year old jws waking up, and their children are posting their experience on reddit.

these are old elders, pioneers, circuit overseers who have given their everything and finally at the end of their life, are walking away.. maybe the key to waking up is that a person has to have a deep sense of right and wrong.

It is a difficult decision if we have the opportunity to wake up an older person. Will it be of benefit to them, in other words, will they end up HAPPIER for being woken up ? If it is your honest opinion they will not find a happier life by being woken up, then, leave them.

I know we can look at their life in the Org and see all the down sides, but, will they be HAPPIER if released ?

Not all will, I have JW relatives who have given their whole life to it, all their " friends" are in it, it is their Social Support Network, it is their Hope. Who am I to take that away from them, however false it may be, if by doing so I make them more miserable ?

But, I am one who if I was entrapped until now in it, and I am in my 70's, but was woken up. I would SO appreciate it ! and love whoever helped me to wake up ! even at my time of life.

So, all I am saying is, make your judgement on this well.

so the past couple of years, i’ve read several stories about jws who left the organization at an early age because they knew something wasn’t right------but they never bothered to research the religion.

there was this feeling that the watchtower was not god’s only channel.

so they left at an early age.

HTBWC, lucky you ! and I mean that, you didn't have to go through the process that so many have had to do to " de-programme" or whatever you like to call it.

But an awful lot DO need to go through the process to some degree, if they do not do it, as the O.P states, they end up being in the pitiable state of them being out of the religion, but, the religion not being out of them. That is so sad, that some people are like that.

Any help we can offer such people should be given to them, so they can lead a happy, free life as we do.

I had forgotten about our so very interesting Poster " A. Guest", I think the poor lady had mental problems, but she certainly rattled some cages on here, and fascinated me at the time ! I do hope she is well, and happy.

RIP Diego Armando Maradona (1960-2020)

diego maradona apparently died yesterday, 11-25-2020, from a heart attack aged 60.. on the football pitch he was a genius, a footballer of outrageous talent.

btw i'm english, and like many of my compatriots, i remember how disgraceful his cheating was in the quarter finals of the 1986 world cup against england.

he clearly deliberately punched the football into the net, and that goal should not have been allowed.

Thanks for Posting the Video, LUHE. looking at it, a lot of modern footballers could take lessons from it.

Even when EVILLY fouled, he does not lie down clutching an offended body part, hoping to get a free kick, he gets up, runs like fury again and GETS A GOAL ! or makes a goal scoring opportunity.

Lying down rolling in " agony" waiting for a free Kick is a waste of time, from that point on, even if you win the F.K. the game is slowed right down, everyone is back in position, and a Goal is so very hard to get.

Maradona was a tough little fucker, and he showed how you do it ! Come on you guys in the Game now, learn to be a Maradona, not a Prima Donna !

Do you think “Eventually” the Whole World will become Socialist?

when i say; “socialist” i don’t mean everyone is equal.

instead i am referring to “leaders” being rich and powerful, whereas the ordinary citizen being poor, and powerless.. i was surprise that the majority of the world is run by socialist government.

the last few countries that are not socialist are the united states and parts of europe.

through extensive exegesis many had formulated detailed predictions of what a jewish messiah would be like and do to demonstrate his credentials.

You make a good point that the idea of a Messiah is very late, and comes long after the completion of the O.T, and that all "Messianic expectations" and examples of "Messianic Prophecy" are read INTO the Text. I cannot remember the exact point that such ideas began to get traction, but not much before 300 BCE ?

Therefore all the Messianic stuff in the N.T is based upon intertestamental Rabbinic speculations and formation of new doctrines. JW Org would never acknowledge the truth of this, along with most Christians !

The practice of Eisegesis is a bad one, reading in to the text that which is not there. But in the case of our Jewish friends their development of a messiah idea probably came from their practice of midrash, adapting Scripture to tell a story and teach a lesson for the time in which they lived, so, not as naughty as the " interpretation" JW's do !

The Jews really needed badly a leader to free them under Antiochus 1V Epiphanes, hence the book of "Daniel" being written then, about 164 BCE, and Judas Maccabeus popping up as a Messiah to do the job, like a " Hammer" !

So What Religion do You Claim to be when Entering Hospital?

i've had a few medical procedures.

once, i had a massive loss of blood and needed 6 units of blood to replace the loss.

however, i'm curious as to what ex's state to be their religion when filling out the required paperwork when being admitted into a hospital.

" I think it was Margaret Thatcher that said..in as many words..."the problem with socialism is..sooner or later you run out of other peoples money ". That is actually an excellent definition of capitalism. LOL

Democratic Socialism in various forms works well in a number of Countries, often the Government is a Coalition, so not fully Democratic Socialist. But if the U.S were to consider such a Government, or the U.K, or anywhere, to achieve it would mean a system of Proportional Representation, Single Transferable Vote perhaps, but there are other systems.

Why consider Democratic Socialism ? just look at Portugal, a very poor Country of the E.U. but as soon as they got rid of their Right Wing Austerity wielding Government things have improved immensely, many who had left the Country in disgust at Capitalism unfettered extracting money for the 1%, but investing little in the Country, have started to return. Things are looking up there, just with a change to a weak Democratic Socialism.

For the US and the U.K to achieve a Government " For The Many, Not The Few", which is what D.S is, both Countries would need a new, real, Green Democratic Socialist Party to emerge, and for P.R to be brought in. In the U.S the Republicans and Democrats must go, in the U.K, the Conservatives and the Labour Party must go.

"extremism" -- What specifically did Russia ban Jehovah's Witnesses for?

russia's reason for banning jehovah's witnesses is said to be due to extremism.

but what exactly does that mean, or refer to?

specifically, what practice (or practices) of jehovah's witnesses does russia consider to be extreme?

I looked up the specific Russian Law they were prosecuted under, and how it defined an Extremist Organisation. The JW Org TICKED EVERY BOX !

Without looking at it again, I cannot remember exactly what the criteria were, but I do recall the JW's fulfilled all of them. With our specialist knowledge of the JW Org we would say that the Law was being applied to them when in reality it need not be, but if that is felt to be the case by JW Org, not just "we should be exempt from Caesars Law", which will never wash, but if they feel the Law is wrongly applied, they must campaign for the Law to be more tightly written. I am sure the Law was brought in to catch Terrorist Orgs, and under pressure from the Russian Orthodox Church is being applied to JW's, but the ball is in the JW's Court. ( < nice pun !).
