Very Droll this !
by Phizzy ina hindu, a rabbi, and a jehovah's witness are lost.
they wander across a farmstead and ask to spend the night.. "i only have room for two, so one of you will have to stay in the barn," says the farm owner.. the hindu immediately volunteers, insisting it's no problem.
however, a few minutes later, he knocks on the front door.. "i'm sorry, but there is a cow in the barn, and they are sacred to me.".

Again though, he returns and knocks. "There is also a pig in there, and that is against our teachings.""I will go then, friends," says the Jehovah's Witness, and he proceeds to the barn. A few moments later, there is a knock at the door. It's the cow and the pig. -

Google Street view: Will I get disfellowshipped?
by StephaneLaliberte inyesterday, while having a smoke outside my house, i saw the google street view car drive by.
so here i am, wondering when this picture will make it to the web and when a jw sees it.
even if they blur the face, i bet it will be really easy to make out who's smokin' outside.

I gave up smoking last year, due to having Asthma and the fear that if I got Covid, my not so healthy Lungs would not stand up to it.
But when I was smoking , I took all sorts of chances of being "caught", it never happened. It is the same with Voting, Donating Blood, all sorts of things, I really am not prepared to spend the rest of my days looking over my shoulder and worrying about those stupid JayDubs.
If they see me doing something they do not approve of , f**k 'em, I am going to do it anyway. As I told one Elder, " You can't DF me from a religion I was never a part of ", which is true, all the main Doctrines have changed since I left about a decade and a half ago, so I have never been part of the latest iteration of JW Org.

J Dublethink
by LoveUniHateExams ini'm just thinking of examples of jw doublethink.. here's one - jws will tell a bible study or unbaptised publisher that there is no hierarchy within the org.
they typically remark on christendom's hierarchy but then say 'we are all brothers'.
but as a person gets further into the cult, jws will constantly stress the need to obey the governing body.. jw hierarchy .
-
Phizzy
By " Doublethink" I assume you mean what is called Cognitive Dissonance, and that abounds within the JW Org, see the List above in "mynameislame" 's Post, and that List is not exhaustive !
It disturbed me as a JW to be dishonest with people, the public, so I rarely was, apart from the not revealing all about the Org.
I'm sure it disturbs honest ones in the Org, the number of times and ways they have to use lies and deceit.
As has been said many times, but it is pertinent, " If you have The Truth, you do not have to lie about it".

Do local JWs want in-person meetings back in your congregation?
by JWTom ini realize many here think that in-person meetings will return as soon as things are safe with covid.
but many acknowledge it will likely be 2022 or later when this happens.. surprisingly, many pimi jws in our congregation are not shy about saying they are fine with zoom meetings forever and do not want to go back to in-person meetings.
many speculate similar thoughts that are on this site....such as a combination of in-person and zoom meetings.
-
Phizzy
I imagine JW's are ambivalent about it, on the one hand Zoom Meetings are easier for them, on the other, actual live meeting up means they can actually catch up with all the gossip. And Gossip is what they all, men and women, thrive on.

I am still not able to solve this God's name paradox...
by psyco ini am finishing to read the entire bible (nwt 2013) for my first time (my fault) and i wrote down hundreds, maybe thousands, of questions not clear to me, but one especially came in my mind meditating on god's name.. if i wanted to summarize the entire bible in one phrase i would say (even before the kingdom): god’s name sanctification.. god is jealous about his name.
he does everything for the love of his name, and he wants to be called and prayed using his name.
no doubt about all this (repeated several times in the bible), but it involves the pronunciation of his name.. god left us his name in the form of יהוה which is unpronounceable.

It really doesn't matter how YHWH was and should be pronounced. The thing to recognise is that the God bearing that name came from Pagandom ! he came from South of where the Hebrews/Israelites lived in the wild hills of Canaan, he came probably via the Midianites, and maybe originated in Egypt (Big ?).
Certainly he was a minor god as far as the Canaanites were concerned, but eventually Israel adopted him as THEIR god, and at a very late date decided he was god Almighty, above other gods, later still they decided other gods were not real.
But to worship a Deity with that doubtful provenance today, is rather silly and pathetic.

Ah, Jonah. 3 day air supply explained ?Whale sharks gulp down air to float vertically while feeding

The Story of Jonah is recognised by all sensible people, and all Scholars, as Allegorical.
To try to justify the stuff in there and to say it could be a Story that is literal and true is to do it a huge injustice. It is a rather fine piece of Literature, with many lessons for us.
Read it, enjoy it, for what it is, not what it isn't.

by LoveUniHateExams inlol, i'm sorry, but is this n*gga serious?.

It must be 'kin weird being in the Royal family, plus his other problems, but as a wealthy man, with a lovely wife and kid(s), he really should count his blessings, and spend his time helping people wherever he can.
Helping others has got me over my family background, and being in a Cult etc etc. and given me a great insight in to how much better off than many I am.
As a friend of mine said recently, you get to a certain age when blaming your upbringing, your genes and the shit life has thrown at you doesn't cut it anymore, you are old enough to just get on with life, regardless. And he had a MUCH harder life than Harry ! his mum deserted him and his sisters when they were very young, didn't really love them, his dad was poor , he could be full of resentment for all this, but he gets on with life, and is a stable nice guy.

The Great Poster "Leolaia", a few year ago, Posted quite a bit about the use of Numbers in the Bible, showing that most of the time, if they were not mere bullshit to boost their Nation's History, they were symbolic, so lots and lots of use of the number 70, or multiples thereof, 490 years for example.
None of these numbers were accurate as to time periods, but were Literary devices, again showing that to read the Bible as literal History, or as truth, is a huge error.
Also if you are interested search out Leo's Posts on the use of " Motifs" in the N.T, eye opening stuff, it shows again that the Stories in the N.T are just that, Fiction.

What is your status (as of today) as a Jehovah's Witness?
by RULES & REGULATIONS inactive believer...still attend meetings, go out in field service, believe it's ''the truth''.
active non-believer... go to meetings and field service to please family... living a double life .
inactive believer...don't attend meetings but believe it's the truth, one day might go back to kingdom hall.
-
Phizzy
I really do not know what my Status is, I faded many years ago, but was told a few Months back by an Elder that I had " Crossed a line", maybe because of what I had written on Social Media, although what I write is always Truth, but, as we all know JW's "Cannot Handle The Truth".
I presume I have not been officially Disassociated, but I am definitely " marked" by that Elder at least. Which affects me not one bit, as I have no desire to ever meet in any way with the guy.
So I rather like the Label " Faded and Marked" as my Status.

Neanderthals carb loaded, helping grow their big brains
by Disillusioned JW insee https://www.sciencemag.org/news/2021/05/neanderthals-carb-loaded-helping-grow-their-big-brains .
the article says in part 'the study is “groundbreaking,” says harvard university evolutionary biologist rachel carmody, who was not part of the research.
the work suggests the ancestors of both humans and neanderthals were cooking lots of starchy foods at least 600,000 years ago.

It is an area of Study that has long fascinated me, the emergence of modern humans, and earlier iterations, and of course the reality is we cannot be categorical about things, although Scientists make findings and then interpret them for us, we have to be prepared for new knowledge to change those Scientist's views.
But it is now certain that Neanderthals were a lot more advanced than was thought just a few years ago, and were civilised, I would use that word, their Art, Burial Customs etc etc are evidence of a civilisation.
What I have found interesting to observe in the Interpretations of findings is the obvious bias of the Interpreter. This is evident in Science writers more than the Scientists themselves.
But just as an example, haven't the Writers refrained from pointing out that is is possible that Neanderthals were MORE advanced than the lot who came out of Africa most recently ( recent in Evolutionary terms). It is known that we Europeans and therefore you American Immigrants/Invaders are all related to that group that over time came out of Africa, and also to Neanderthals, but I saw one Writer's thoughts that maybe Neanderthal DNA came to us through interbreeding with a more distant common relative, much earlier in time, than the ones who lived in Europe up until around 35,000 years ago. Why this desire to distance us from Neanderthals ? Bias. Also note that " Modern Man" is always depicted as VERY WHITE in illustrations, or was until recent times, again Bias ?
But there are bound to be more discoveries in this fascinating area of study.
